Absolutely amazing!

It probably won't mean anything to 99.9% of the members on this forum but this is a big, big deal over here and a massive achievement for a realatively small club. Some of the big clubs have players that cost more than the whole of the Leicester squad. Many pundits had us as a sure thing to be relegated. Instead we win it!

What a fantastic achievement.

Proud to be from Leicester.

Congrats! Anyone who took the odds betting for the local team had to have made out like bandits.

I'm still buzzing and can't quite believe it. In a recent interview actor Tom Hanks, who is an Aston Villa fan, reckoned he had £100 on Leicester to win the title. Odds were 5000 to 1. The press is saying that there were 47 bets placed at those odds and almost all from Leicester.

Another thing to put this in context - Man Utd have spent more on players in the last 18 months than Leicester have in their entire 132 year existence.

Two things.

1-I know who said that stat and they normally have incredibly bad hair but how bad was his hair tonight?

2-Amazing achievement by Leicester and Claudio has done such an impressive job. Aside from Vardy being sent off the way the team have gone about the last few games with relative calm is a masterclass. At the start of this season how many Fox fans thought they would be in European football next year let alone being at the top? Claudio has done what Mourinho Fergie et al have never done, won it on a budget with class.

Incredible, and very happy for them. I was hoping something would change in EPL's top table and what an amazing way to do this! I remember their coach saying the goal was 40 pts!! Now I hope they draw in talent instead of selling like some rumors speculate!! Btw they have huge presense in thailand, i think being owned by a thai company (correct me if im wrong). They have tons of fans watchign games there!

btw, overall a pretty crazy year for soccer imo. Being in barcelona, it's been chaotic to say the least.

I've been watching the premier league every Saturday and Sunday (and Monday nights as well) since about mid December....just started watching on a wild hair and I have to say it's been some of the most exciting sport games/matches I've seen. Such a huge difference between the Premier League and soccer in the US. Anyway, little by little I was able to pick up just how incredible the story of Leister City is, and to watch Chelsea come back last night to tie up the game, holy crap! What a win. And the first half of the Sunday game with LC and MU was probably one of the best games I've seen in any sport. Incredibley fun to watch!

One thing I don't understand though is about the transfer of players...the press makes it almost seem as if there is no way Leister City can keep their players/team in tact. Other teams will have the ability to purchase the key players at will? Is this how it works? I'd love to watch an in tact LC play the other European teams next year, to see how they do against Barcelona and Madrid, etc. but it almost seems like a massive exodus is impossible to stop.

LC starting 11 (plus Vardy) cost under 20 million pounds, and the other major teams spend several hundred million pounds on their roster....crazy!

Amazing historic season, congrats to Leicester City!

Since you're from Leicester, how was the party last night? :eusa_dance: :drunk:

I was excited for every Leicester fan. I loved how our NBC television coverage was showing some bars in Leicester as the Chelsea-Tottenham game went on. Glad I tuned into the game, very physical entertaining match. Of course that first-touch curling finesse shot from Hazard was just incredible. Chelsea fans chanting "Leicester! Leicester!". I felt excited, can't imagine the longtime Leicester fans elation to their first EPL title.

It is complicated!

There are two transfer windows. January and Summer off season. Players can only move in those times.

A team can sell whatever player they like after all they are effectively businesses and if they can see value elsewhere in the squad then why not cash in specially when you are suppose to abide by financial fair play.

But then you have release clauses.

Let me give you some background here.

My team is Liverpool and the owner also owns Boston Red Sox. He seemed quite shocked that the contracts don't mean a thing so a player or opposing team can force a move to another team through using release clauses.

http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/mar/...s-suarez-clause

So in that case Arsenal placed a bid of £40 million and a pound and expected everyone to sit around a table and do the deal but Henry stood firm. Not all owners have the chance to stand firm hence players get transferred.

Leicester is so small and don't forgot were facing relegation to the league below this time last year so the players will have very low value release clauses. Again, they don't have to sell but then you invoke player power. That player can then help force the move through to a bigger club. That does not always work out well for the player.

It is complicated.

Unfortunately I work and stay in London during the week and usually set off at 7pm on Sunday for the trip down. I managed to catch the Spurs - Chelsea match on 5 live (sports radio) driving down. I actually had to switch off when Spurs went 2 up and resigned myself to a tense day next Saturday when we play Everton at home. I switched the radio back on with 1 minute left and couldn't believe it.

I spoke with Leicester friends today and they told me the city exploded. Thousands upon thousands of people came out, cars touring round blaring their horns, pubs full to the gunnels. Today was no better. Journalists from all over the world descended. I hate to think what the local absenteeism rate was today. They will receive the trophy this Saturday. The city will absolutely erupt.

Picking up on the Capt explanation of transfers. If a player is in contract and wants to leave most clubs will sell regardless of how good he is. An unsettled player will never give his all and on top of that he can potentially unsettle the whole team. So clubs sell and usually make a few quid in the process.

Said Neil Lennon on Talksport on Monday evening:

“We won’t see this again, 5000/1 to win the league… What are the odds?”

We have a winner in the category of great sporting rhetorical questions.

Wow that is complicated. So this summer will be when we find out who moves and to where...crazy!

Yes. Also, factor in age. Vardy is 28 and whilst English strikers tend to go for way more money than other nationalities in the Premier league he is a bit of a loose cannon.

Google, Vardy and Casino.

So older players like Huth etc will not be picked up on but the younger ones will and specially those that will be playing at the European championships this summer. That is when heads get turned.

My hunch is Chilwell, Mahrez, maybe Drinkwater might move if not this summer but next.

LoL, that was quite a party! Didn't they hand out a free beer to each fan at the stadium yesterday? No wonder the hospital got slammed, lol. Personally I liked the donuts they gave out on the owners birthday game...that was pretty cool. Very fun to watch the game and pre-game/post-game festivities yesterday...I just wish the coverage would have lasted a little longer. The best is when the camera's inside the stadium shake after a great play, because of the fans reaction...must be a blast to be there live.

Yup free beer and food.

Some stadiums have better atmospheres than others. As I said I am a Liverpool fan and the atmosphere at Anfield is something to hold. Hairs hair stand on end when the Kop is jumping.

Where Arsenal play at the Emirates it is at best a rowdy library but one of the latest stadiums. I was impressed with the speedy beer pumps.

Just 3 days ago i was hanging out with a couple of Brits and we were talking about Diego Simeone after AM beat Barca. Well they said he was their 'juice', the way he is so animated that gets the team going, which I love and agree with. But they said Klopp was the same which is good, unlike Arsenal whose games are ... and they clapped quietly among each other.

Seems like Tottenham fell off of a cliff the past few games...even dropped to third overall! Great, exciting season! And now I'm off to watch Peaky Blinders (fantastic show)...I'm watching more things from across the pond than the US this year! :icon_mrgreen:
