  1. Still worthless. Either waive permenently or six months at a time. Who better than the mayor of San Juan to respond to the trump administrations claims of relief?
  2. I hope McCain prevails, at the very least for Puerto Rico http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-puer...s-idUSKCN1C32ZL And is anyone surprised that the companies that have the monopoly on Jones act shipping to Puerto Rico are kicking and screaming?
  3. I was on the island for Irma, and have staff there now communicating via sat phone. I'm also dealing directly with the military sea lift command in reference to organizing ships to go down there. What's the point of getting an extension cord from your submarine (lol) upland when there's no electrical grid left? I have a supply ship near by with the capability to carry 200,000 gallons of fuel at a time (shallow draft) and I'm being told to not bother because of only short term Jones act waivers? Why are they now scrambling to get crews for some of the relief ships rather than a week or two ago when Irma hit? Dude, 45 is doing a fantastic job. All good here.
  4. It's getting ugly now. The military should have been deployed and ready offshore before the storm hit.
  5. I was actually in the middle of negotiating a charterer for two of my ships to Puerto Rico when the charterer told me "you know this is only for 10 days right?" Lol.
  6. Waived for 10 days only. Damn near useless, strictly a political stunt to make himself look better. Consider it takes five days for a ship just to get there from Florida, what good is a 10 day waiver? At the very least the waiver should be for 90 to 120 days if not more.
  7. You hit the nail right on the head. I own several foreign flagged cargo ships that cannot go directly to Puerto Rico from the United States because of the Jones act. The first order of business should have been to suspend the Jones act even for 30 days. Instead what's happening is that they are protecting monopolies like Crowely and tote maritime that service Puerto Rico. I don't get my information from watching TV, I'm on the ground live dealing with this bullshit.
  8. I spend a lot of time in PR and do a lot of business down there. What's happened down there has set the island back decades and frankly, I think a lot of the destruction will never be repaired. Expect a mass exedous of puerto ricans that will never return to the island. I can't believe that the president is engaged in a twitter battle with professional athletes rather than dealing with this crisis head on.
  9. Ugh. I had to deal with Irma in Puerto Rico, Provo, then again in Florida. Story and pics to follow once I have a decent connection.
  10. Phone service is almost non existent now, this will probably be my last post for a few days. Keep safe guys and let's hope for the best.
  11. Fwiw, considering the updated track, if we would have stayed in Puerto Rico, we would have had practically a direct hit. We are in shallow waters so the seas don't have an opportunity to build. Also, were on the north side of the storm which is better in terms of storm surge. Somehow we managed to find the only hill in Provo (100') and were hiding behind it. Marina that were in is brand new but it was never finished and has been abandoned in this state for several years. Were the only boat here so we don't have to worry about another boat breaking loose and hitting us. I'm ashamed to think like this, but I hope the storm tracks further south.
  12. Here we are leaving Puerto Rico before Irma formed and here is where we are now...
  13. Sure, sounds like a plan. I've been arguing with London underwriters all day. Luckily the storm seems to be tracking well south of us. Before I left, it was literally like the storm was aimed at where the boat was.
  14. Panic?! My personal yacht is in Provo, Turks and Caicos. Guess who's on his way to the airport to fly into the Turks to sit out the storm with my crew?!
