Jalpa_Mike Report post Posted January 16, 2010 Na.... Sponsorship never involves giving away your BEST product.... Its about giving away as little as you can in exchange for the advertising you get in return. The 7909 is still considered an awesome HU. Alpine was a pretty HUGE electronics company before the Lamborghini tie-in.... But nobody had heard of them.... For instance.... They made ALL of the head units for BMW in the 80's (and a lot of other car manufacturers as well I assume) but the units were re-branded as BMW, carried none of the Alpine signatures- the green buttons etc.... But in terms of direct to consumer, the Lamborghini ads put them on the map. How true. I can remember having the "Alpine / Lamborghini" Posters in my bedroom as a kid, and every time I would get a new car, I would put an Alpine unit into it, simply because it was the company that supplied Lamborghini with their products! Every Toyota, Mazda, Jaguar, etc.. that I bought, would have an Alpine installed within the first week of ownership. Fantastic marketing campaign for sure! RIGHT NOW.... I actually have the original TV AD on VHS somewhere in a box downstairs.... I only saw it TWICE and the second time I had a tape in ready to record. And yeah.... I have been a loyal alpinian ever since.

When I re-modeled my garage, my wife had them framed for me, and now they adorn my garage walls! :-)

Jalpa_Mike Report post Posted January 18, 2010 Wow.... Look at that!!! Ill be your best friend for photos of it lit up.... In exchange Ill share this: It will probably take me about 2 weeks to do that! They are picking up my car tomorrow in an enclosed trailer for a 1 week detail (both interior and exterior). Once I get the car back next weekend, I have to hook the the stereo back up! The PO took it out, thinking he was going to replace it with an Alpine CD unit. However, he decided since he was going to sell the car, there was no reason to upgrade. So, he just stuck this unit back into the dash. I have to re-hook up all the wires!! Its like a friggin' spaghetti factory back there! hahahahah... However, I will post a picture when it's lit up like a Christmas Tree! Tony Ierardi Report post Posted January 19, 2010 A little history on the that particular Alpine poster and car: The poster was for promotion from 1980 onward. There was a magazine ad to buy the poster with a mail in coupon + $1.00 The radio in the ad was the 7136. I have the ad, the poster & the 7136. As well as a 7135 and two later new in box 7400 & 7401. The car is the 1979 S1 #1121058 that the owner had the "new style" wheels installed.

Jalpa_Mike Report post Posted January 19, 2010 Mike, You'll have it tomorrow. Tony Hats off to Tony! Many thanks!!!! The previous owner decided he wanted to update the stereo to a new Alpine CD unit. So, instead of carefully removing the old unit, he literally cut all the wires and pulled the unit out. At some point he decided to sell the car and figured it wasn't worth the expense to replace the stereo. So he told me he was just going to stick the unit back into the vacant hole, and leave it up to me to rewire it. Problem is, I have no idea which wire goes where! D'oh!!! Thanks again Tony!
