Phil HAS to die..... Thats all there is too it.... And he has to die in a particularly nasty way.... Otherwise the audience will be pissed....

I once thought Tony had to die too... Or go to jail....

I dont think so any more....

People always talk about what a despicable character he is.... But its a show about relative values amongst bad people.... Tony has a lot of redeeming qualities at least when compared to Phil....

I think Tony will be given a last chance at redemption.... Its a redemption hes been working at since he got shot ("theres enough for everybody")....

Face it, despite all his problems, the audience is ROOTING for him to win.... And find some peace with his life....

And so is Big Pussy....

I was just reviewing all the "Spoilers" and this seems to be the closest to what actually happened.... :eusa_dance: :eusa_dance: :eusa_dance: At the end, Tony DOES seem to have found some sort of peace with it all....

The more I think about it, the ending was fantastic. The episode sucked overall, but the ending was well done.

Man at the end, my heart was pounding waiting for something to happen, then all of a sudden blank screen. They did a good job on that last scene.

Yep. They would have gained nothing by showing the shooting.

They kept showing the trucker with the hat on sitting at the table, then they showed a shot of all the black guys walking in,and then there was the shot of someone suspicious looking walking in ahead of AJ.

i kept waiting for someone to pull out a gun and start firing at the whole family!

i was sitting on the edge of my bed the whole time waiting for the big ending!

i figured that it was going to have the "Everything works out for the best" ending when AJ was talking on his cell and picking up his GF in his M3

Oh well

i still love the sopranos series,i guess leaving the ending open like that is the best way to go

I LOVED that ending. I thought he was going to get taken out for sure, but we may never know. My call, Tony got killed. Finding peace with it all, thats another good one, but for some reason, he seemed to be way too open and not heavily defensive after the whole beef died down. Could that have been his mistake? "Don't stop." The guy in the trucker USA hat had to fit in with the whole "made in America" theme somehow, but I'm too tired to put it all together right now. There is the end to a great series. A movie would kill it, leave it the way it ended. I will definatley be studying the episode tomorrow!

This might sum it up

Lyrics from Don't Stop Believing

"Strangers, waiting, up and down the boulevard

Their shadows searching in the night

Streetlight people, living just to find emotion

Hiding somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill

Everybody wants a thrill

Paying anything to roll the dice

Just one more time

Some will win, some will lose

Some were born to sing the blues

Oh the movie never ends

It goes on and on and on and on"

The ending was lame, a "cop out".....Its like the director/writer/creators of the show threw up their hands and said fcuk it, I quit, I can't do this anymore......The last scene was both touching and tense because it conveyed the sense of family harmony, which is the only thing Tony loves, and also a sense of the menacing outside world that Tony does battle in. The other characters could of been cops or thugs, all the same to Tony. The story doesn't end, but the show did. The black screen ending was like a slap in the face....

The ending was also a teaser, because you know they can bring back the show anytime, and probably will in a few years.

I had read on other sites that the trucker in the corner was David Chase? Anyone catch the credits?

It "KINDOF" looked like him.....

I read the credits and didnt see it.... They listed "Man in restaurant" and "Members only Jacket man"

I figured him for the feds.... The black guys could have been there for AJ, and the "MEMBERS only guy" ive seen before, but I cant remember where.... MAYBE IN A PREVIOUS EPISODE?

I liked it! Sad that it's over though. :(

Another board:

"I have read a bunch of these pages WAITING for someone to remember that Tony's dad was killed at the DINNER TABLE IN A RESTAURANT IN FRONT OF HIS FAMILY WITH TONY SITTING THERE. Do you all not remember this????? The "cut to black" to me was CLEARLY Tony getting shot. The whole "do you hear it coming" thing was pushed in our faces a little too much for it to be coincidence. His family lives -- "they don't touch the family" -- it's true, we have seen it time and time again on this show.

Why was he wacked? Well, let's see -- he just wacked another boss!!! Do you think that there's no fall out from that? There's going to be a huge ripple effect from that kind of move. Also, how about any of the other people who had a grudge with him, most recently, the guy whose teeth he knocked out? How about all the people he might flip on when he was indited, which was going to be pretty soon.

Who knew they were going to be at the diner? Like some people said, Meadow and AJ -- both could have told someone who could have leaked it to the wrong person. We don't know who Carm told either, and Tony could very well have been followed. The whole show from day one was in Tony's POV and with Tony gone, of course it would cut to black. Tony is dead. We weren't able to see any blood and gore or family reaction because the point of view of our main character was gone. Sure, the point of view for the show in general, for the most part, was limited omnicient, but NEVER when Tony was in the room -- if Tony was there, you always got his perspective -- yes, the camera angles changed, but it was always his POV.

Tony is dead -- cut to black. That's all there is to it. Gandolfini said himself in an interview a few days ago that he has put Tony to bed and he's glad that he's gone. HE SAID THAT THE ENDING LEAVES NO ROOM FOR A MOVIE. Google it and read it for yourself."

Saw this on a diff board.. brings a up a strong point that he died. though i dunno.. way to open ended.

OK, at first I was really angry. I mean really, really angry. I can't believe though that no-one has posted by now what happened. The only thing I saw that was right, was that in the last scene we are seeing through Tony's eyes. Remember when he was speaking with Bobby...basically saying that you don't see it happening?

So here is what I found out. The guy at the bar is also credited as Nikki Leotardo. The same actor played him in the first part of season 6 during a brief sit down concerning the future of Vito. That wasn't that long ago. Apparently, he is the nephew of Phil. Phil's brother Nikki Senior was killed in 1976 in a car accident. Absolutely Genius!!!! David Chase is truly rewarding the true fans who pay attention to detail.

So the point would have been that life continues and we may never know the end of the Sopranos. But if you pay attention to the history, you will find that all the answers lie in the characters in the restaurant. The trucker was the brother of the guy who was robbed by Christopher in Season 2. Remember the DVD players? The trucker had to identify the body. The boy scouts were in the train store and the black guys at the end were the ones who tried to kill Tony and only clipped him in the ear (was that season 2 or 3?).

Absolutely incredible!!!! There were three people in the restaurant who had reason to kill Tony and then it just ends. This was Chase's way of proving that he will not escape his past. It will not go on forever despite that he would like it to "don't stop". Not the fans!!! Tony would like it to keep going but just as we have to say goodbye, so does he. No more Tony and I guess we are supposed to be happy that Meadow didn't get clipped as well (she would have been between the shooter and Tony) since she is the only one worth a crap in that family.

Thank you David Chase for making it so obscure that I feel bad for hating you at first. Absolutely amazing!!!!"

Did Meadow come through that door? We know someone did, but who, and why did he reach down as soon as the door ding sounded? Just paranoia?

We never saw the ending because we died with Tony. What a great ending, I'm going to really miss the show :crybaby2: . No more Tony means no more POV from Tony. Wow, that was a long ride. I can't wait until the DVD is released, and I am really hoping that it is released with the supposed alternate endings, and commentary.

Another board:

Several of the "facts" listed in that post are 100% WRONG.

"Members only Jacket" guy is NOT credited as anything but "members only jacket guy", and hes NEVER been on the show before..

The "boyscouts" are NOT the kids from the train store.

The black kids are different black guys...

And Ive never seen the trucker before (And he wasnt David Chase)....

ANYTHING is possible from that ending....

And if memory serves me correct, the guys that tried to kill tony at the newstand...one was shot and killed by his partner, and the other ended up a broken mess....Like I said before its a mad libs ending and there are as many endings to the finale as there are people's opinions...I loved it.

I spoke to several friends today who had no inclination whatsoever that Tony was killed. There were several local morning radio shows this morning that discussed the show at length and not one of them touched upon the fact that Tony got killed! WTF?!

I am also in the "Tony did not get killed" group. They focused too much on all of the people in the resturant, but the way I see it is that they were trying to show the "things are back to normal". Moving back home, dinner out with the whole family for the 1st time in a while etc etc.

I thought it was interesting how the episode started off with Tony waking up for another day. Did he wake up the next morning? after the family dinner?

There were two songs that stood out when Tony was flipping through the Juke box: "Any Way You Want It," and "Magic Man." Then, ultimately "Don't Stop." One of the other songs was "Who will you run to." But, what is intersting, is as he scrolls through the music, "Magic Man (live) is shown again. Here is a list of all songs in the juke box:

Flip 1:

Got a lot of women on her hand

Somewhere in the Night

My baby drives a Buick

Those were the days

Turn, Turn, Turn,

Only the strong survive

Just because I really love you

Victim of Love

Flip 2:

Rock it, Billy

I've gotta be me

Lonely place

This magic moment

Since I don't have you

Crystal blue persuasion

I'm alive

June night

Flip 3:

Somewhere in the night

my baby drives a Buick

Who will you run to

Magic Man (live)

Flip 4:

Magic Man (live)

Don't stop believing

Any way you want it

(I'll?) never be in love again

Then it goes into his view and shows Rock it Billy, I've gotta be me, and Lonely place. He picks "Don't stop believing." Did the song he pick mirror his mood and thoughts? No, the director picked it, but you get what I'm saying.

The Trucker.

The Black Guys.

The "members" only guy.

Meadow.

You pick the ending.

Then, I read a theory about the infomercial for "The Magic Bullet" chopper relating to Tony's death. The infomercial was played while Tony was in the hospital, after being shot by Uncle June, and the commercial went along the lines of (naming three primary things): "chops vegetables, ice, etc...in under 10 seconds." Time the blackout, it lasts for exactly 10 seconds. Tony was the third to get killed, substitute those three items for Bobby, Sil, and Tony. I would have only thought about this under heavy influence of Marijuana.

AJ: "Focus on the good times."

"Try to remember the times that were good."

It ends "Any way you want it." Possibly it ended by "The Magic Man." But, "Don't stop believing."

Damn, gotta love that David Chase.

So, when it switched to Tony's POV after Meadow walked through the door, his picture went black as soon as the camera was switched to his POV? The camera did go to Tony's POV every time someone walked through the door, but did it go to his POV after Meadow walked through the door? I believe the answer is no, we were watching it through our own point of view. We may never know.

Then again, I read an interview with the "members only" stand in guy, and he had said that he hoped they use his ending. But, he isn't sure if it will ever be seen. I don't understand why that guy would have killed him. Skin cells, DNA left everywhere, he would be easy to catch, but almost impossible to catch if lets say he as an immigrant from Italy. But, would it matter to him if here were caught or not, he killed Tony Soprano.
