I don't understand....what's the point of having retina display but we still cannot watch blue ray DVDs in a Mac. Mac needs to step up since PC's have had blue ray capabilities for years now!!

It's licensing problem with Sony who owns blu ray. I think they think streaming will surpass the need for any media soon enough.

What applications are you using where you would need a 27" screen with 2880 x 1800 resolution?

Because I could! 27" for multiple windows and screens up. Video and photo editing plus some music creation. And of course HD porn! :icon_mrgreen:

Apple's new MBP dubbed "the least repairable laptop [ever]" by iFixit. It uses soldered RAM, a non-standard SSD, and a fused display unit. Say goodbye to cheap repairs/upgrades.

Sounds about right. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't a SSD have a limited number of read/write cycles?

Yes, but it's highly unlikely that a consumer would reach the point in which the SSD can no longer function properly. You'd probably have bought a new computer before your SSD failed. Enterprise solution typically will last much longer, though they are considerably more expensive.

We have all 27" iMacs in my office and they're great. We use them primarily for video editing but the multitasking abilities that 27" of screen real estate allows are also quite nice.

Yeah, I don't think it has much to do with licensing the technology from Sony. Apple just doesn't believe in physical media anymore and they're leading the charge to phase it out. There isn't any software in their retail stores anymore, for example.

Ya. It looks like the best choice. I don't see any updates coming soon. Probably right after I buy it!
