TRUE or FALSE ??

I was looking at a Murci on Flea-bay and the ad lists it as a 09. When I was going through the pics the door tag states its build as May/08. I e-mailed the dealership and they told me this:" In the U.S. the vin determines the model year and not necessarily the production date." My question is are they correct and how do vins affect model year?

Model year and build year can be different. For instance model year for many cars starts in September or so. So this October you could get a MY 2013 car that was obviously built in 2012.

Things like labor strikes in recent years have affected these dates in L-cars, along with production timing (where they stop coupe production entirely and move to roadsters/spyders only, etc).

The 10th digit of the VIN tells you the MY.

And yes, model years run ~6 months ahead of build dates.

For example, all original Gallardo SLs were of 2008 MY, but

the actual build ran from ~May 2007 to ~March 2008.

Check the window switches on the center console.

09 had a raised bezel around the switch 08 and earier did not, also 08 had carbon brakes as an option and they are standard on the 09

Model year is the 8th digit from the back.. So if it is a 9 then it is a 2009.. Build date doesn't matter. Most manufacturers are now starting to build Next year models in February.. It's a joke really.

Yes, the eighth digit back is an A.. which designates 2010.. B is 2011, C is 2012 etc..

I believe it's the 10th digit not the 8th. The 8th in this car is an h not an a, but the 10th is an 'a'.
