Questions about an APP Development

I have few questions for people involved in app development and people who had apps developed by others.

I have an idea of an app that would be very useful, the target market is very large, worse case scenario I would be happy just to develop it for my own use.

The question is, is there any way I can protect this idea prior disclosure and during the development stages, protection other than an NDA?

An NDA would be useful for me if it was written on very soft paper :icon_mrgreen:

Can any of you guys recommend any well established reputable app development companies that I could contact?

TIA

And what would the cost be to get an app made? I know it will vary depending on what I want. But as a ballpark, am I looking at paying 1k or 100k?

Check out my blog at codetoriches.com. Read the older posts from July. I posted some topics related to app dev for the noob.

Fortis. I think tryin to protect IP regarding apps is hard. Anyone can take a look at an app and reproduce it without seeing a single line of code. You can prevent your own developer from creating a competing product, but most developers don't have the desire to create a copy and go into business against you.

Thank you guys for the replies.

profunctional I understand now that it is impossible to protect, I have to find a developer that I can trust.

For 100K this app better chew your food for you. I have an app, cost varies you can get something very good for the 10k range IMO. Software in general is copyrighted every minute.

In my experience NDA's are tough to get anyone to sign, however a reputable software deveoloper should have no problem signing one.

MAKE SURE you have a solid contract in place. Reason being you don't wan't your developer stealing code to make their life easier...steal code and your busted

Make sure you have cash to pony up for your lawyer. As stated...have a super tight contract drawn up!

I don't know many developers who would create a good and complex app for $10K. My gf's company does development and they charge waaaaay more than $10K. Maybe you could find an individual to do it for $10K freelance, but I wouldn't expect anything amazing for that price. I'd say $10K would get you something very simple and not more than 1 month worth of development time, and that probably wouldn't include designers and such. Probably just a developer.

If you want, I can PM you my gf's company's contact information. They specialize in mobile development and app, specifically iOS. They are based in Shanghai, so that is pretty close to your timezone. I can't speak for them, but off hand I know their past clients have included BNP Paribas, Weight Watchers, another global bank, Porsche, and others. I think they are working on a Porsche application right now.

I'm sure they'd sign an NDA if needed. No idea about cost since I don't know what your project entails, but I know in the past they at one time offered some type of reduced fees in exchange for revenue sharing. I think that is based on whether or not the like the idea though.

Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you the website/contact info in PM.

please PM the details, thank you.

I would certainly prefer to work with someone that I "know" but I am prepared to look at your GF's company, BTW I know how much an NDA is worth in China :icon_mrgreen:

Fortis, I have googled this very subject as I wanted a good Androind/Apple dev in India. I came across IndiaNIC

They look very professional, have a nice web site, good portfolio and they are located in India, so the prices are great compared to what you would get with a US/Euro dev.

I am going with those guys once I have my project details ready. They will also sign a NDA.

Why go with a US/Euro dev when you can choose GOOD devs in India for CHEAP? No point really. It will make it easier for you to sue a Euro/US dev, but is that worth 5-10x the price?

Sorry but I have to disagreed, if you go with a large corporation you will pay more. My developer works out of his house but that has no influence on quality of work. He simply doesn't have the overhead of the big companies.
