kinnsella Report post Posted May 27, 2014 They are worth so much these days, it probably makes sense to rebuild.
Kevin2772 Report post Posted May 27, 2014 Without a doubt that will be rebuilt. Im not a fan of its latest color scheme. It does look like it has the HDF kit on it (the front for sure and the wing) which i love. But seeing as Mr. Bean ripped his to pieces and they fully rebuilt it, this one without a doubt will be completely rebuilt by the factory, seeing as they are now 10million + cars. Im sure peloton will be in here in no time to give us the exact speed, time, location as well as shipment tracking of the car back to mclaren! Even though a few of them would be rebuilt...I'm assuming the 10+million dollar ones would be ones that are pristine....and the ones like these may only go for a few million? It's probably still a great idea to rebuild, but just wondering...
MrDoctor Report post Posted May 27, 2014 Damn, hope the driver/passenger are ok. That F1 was one of my favs. On a side note, would love to see more white/red color combinations like that. So damn sexy

Peloton25 Report post Posted May 28, 2014 Damn, hope the driver/passenger are ok. That F1 was one of my favs. Driver and passenger are doing just fine - they made it back to the hotel last evening. The roads were slippery this morning and while speed wasn't quite a factor as some might imagine, the position of the tree and the embankment put the car on its roof when it went off the road. The worst possible outcome for sure. The car will likely already be en-route back to Woking in a transporter and no doubts they will get it back together with a bit of time and hard work. >8^) ER

I always figured it was kind of like the classic ferraris taht have all been banged and wrecked.....
Peloton25 Report post Posted May 28, 2014 Hard to say - I know that the stigma associated with lack of originality is less prevalent with these cars based on the fact that when they are repaired or altered 95% of the time it is the McLaren factory or the specialists at Lanzante doing the work. Can't say I have been privy to the exact transaction details of any car that has previously suffered a significant accident like this to know whether it was on par with market values at the time. A good number of them have unfortunately been banged up over the years, but when McLaren puts them back together you can be sure they take every care to ensure there are not any lingering quality or performance issues. Have a read here about the care and attention that went into restoring the car which caught fire in California back in 2009. http://www.sportscarmarket.com/columns/leg...-from-the-ashes All that said - if you had your choice between one that was original and without stories or one that had been off like this, which one would you be more eager to acquire. Logic says most people would chose the original car and therefore its price should reflect such things. >8^) ER

Photo where Mr Bean was placed on the roof was mine prior to the edit. >8^) ER
looney Report post Posted June 6, 2014 They are worth so much these days, it probably makes sense to rebuild. most likely, and hopefully they will do it in a nicer colour combo / livery than the tacky one it currently had. Peloton25 Report post Posted June 7, 2014 The owner quite liked it the way it was. Red is typically my least favorite color on cars, but I can still appreciate all the choices he made and know that I would love it if only the theme color had been something else. His car though... It will take some time as they were a lot of broken bits, but I didn't see any damage that would prevent McLaren from putting this one back together. Probably for less than it cost to fix Atkinson's car in 2012 too. -E
