Hello hopefully I am posting this in the correct area. I am in Charlotte nc and am in the market for a gallardo. I am in the middle of completing the sale of my Aston Martin vantage. I want to learn as much as I can to make sure I don't get the wrong car. Looking forward to it! Any local guys to me here? I know UGR is down the street...

Welcome , you've come to the right place. The people on this forum know EVERYTHING about Lamborghinis. I've owned 7 over the course of years...I tried an Aston Vanquish for a while (Pretty car, but nothing compared to a Lambo)...you will be in for an enjoyable shock. :eusa_dance:

Can someone let me know if there is a comparison list or new owner check list on the site? Maybe the variations in the early model cars to the later one?

Almost like a buyers guide?

Buy the newest you can afford with the options you want and a PPI by a knowledgeable Lamborghini specialist. Thats the best advice I can give. Crash damage will make the car a bear to sell if you need to get out of it. These cars have some unique quirks, hence you want a reputable Lambo expert to inspect it. Super low mileage can cause issues since leaks can develop, make sure the maintenance wasn't deferred and proper fluids, parts were used.

Best bet is buy a car from someone on here or a reputable dealer like Roy Cats. Then get to know Glenn at AMH for any parts you may need. Saved my bacon more then once

It sounds like pretty much the same as my Aston. My budget was a 2004 gallardo but it seems like most are saying at least 05 for the lift and 06 even better. Is there a link with comparisons etc? Other than lift are the 04 05 cars that bad?

I had an 05 6spd was great and my friend who bought it has put several thousand spirited miles on it over the last few years and cars been flawless. Only issue he had was the spindle on the power steering pump going. 04 had some interior quality issues since it was pretty much first year. 05 was a bit better, and 06 got an update in exhaust, shorter 1st gears and 20hp. The 06 exhaust goes to full bypass on hard acceleration so sounds better. And the revised first gear is easier in the clutch and quicker off the line

Ok perfect... It seems the prices from the 2004 to 2006 is fairly minimum considering.

Just do your due diligence. They're pretty solid for "exotic" cars but still can be a pitfall if you try and get the cheapest one you can find

I defiantly don't want the cheapest one for sure. I think I actually want one with a little miles so all the little bugs have Been fixed. Any concern other than clutch life when miles gets between 20 to 35k etc?

Here are two nice Gallardos for sale. http://exoticcarsearch.com/?cat=46

2007 and a 2008

Yellow and a Black

Be glad to present an offer once you have done your research.

Brian thanks! I am still trying to decide if I want a lower or little bit higher of a miles car. I do like the thought of something a little higher possibly. Think I do want at least a 2005 with the lift.

Brian

Can you tell me about the clutch on the black 08 please?

Yes!

The last clutch reading I have on the black 2008 is 42.68% remaining when the 30K service was done at 24,414 miles.

Feel free to call or email anytime. Thanks!

Brian

I know that black 08. It is very clean. The owner is anal retentive about it. Would be a solid buy.

I would try to get into a 2005 at least also.

Really once you get into a 2005, you can move up 2-3 years(2007-2008) for roughly $10k more. Percentage wise that is a small amount of money for more improvements and a newer car. The 2006 had revised gearing for better performance and which also can relate to longer clutch wear. The 2007 model had revised steering ( incorporated on the 2006 SE model). There are also minor cosmetic upgrades along the way, and many Gallardos were ordered new with more optional equipment in the later model years. I would think there were also mechanical parts that were superceded/upgraded along the way(clutch packs, etc.). I know a lot of people are already pushing their budget at $100k, but it is something to consider, especially if you are financing anyway. Also many banks have a 10 year old cutoff on loans, so the 2007 opens up some options for some who are financing.

Thanks Assman. The black 08 is my car. I've owned it for almost 5 years and I'm only the 2nd owner. The car has been driven correctly and maintained well. I'm ready for a new weekend car, but will miss this one when it's gone for sure. It has all the good factory options, plus radar, Larini exhaust, ECU tune, new tires, and the 30k major service completed.

Let Brian or I know if you'd like more info.

Brian so the black car will need the clutch replaced in the near future?

Cloneman - The car is still on the original clutch right now. I bought the car with around 16k miles on it, and at the time, the clutch was at 55% remaining. So essentially, I've worn 1% of the clutch per 1000 miles driven. You can make your own "how long till the clutch needs replacing" calculations based on that, and how much you believe you'll drive the car.

With this in mind, if I was to keep and continue driving the car along a similar schedule as I have kept since early 2012, I would imagine that I wouldn't replace the clutch for another 20,000 miles, barring something out of the ordinary happening.

Hope this helps.
