capt_chaos Report post Posted August 4, 2017 Come on guys lets back off. I am sure a Luther Vandross fan would happily pay that money for the plate.
darth sidious Report post Posted August 4, 2017 How are plates secured/protected? Are they frequently stolen off cars? I assume they couldn't be put into use , but used for garage art... Its different here compared to the states. The plates are linked to the VIN on the registration documents. DVLA has an electronic copy. When the car gets registered DVLA allocate a registration number (the plates) and that stays with the car for life. Unless you change the plate by transferring on a vanity plate. If the plates get stolen, and i have never heard of this happening, you simply get a new set made for 25 quid. Plates are secured with two plastic screws or double sided tape. Its a 1 minute job to remove or attach plates. However, if the car is stolen that is a different matter. The plates are gone for good unless the car is recovered. You can also buy plates and put them on retention. This means they are not allocated to any car by the DVLA. DVLA charge £80 for a 10 year retention period. You can allocate any plate you own to any car you own via DVLA. The only restriction is you can't allocate a plate to make the car appear younger. eg a 2017 plate couldn't go on a pre 2017 car.
