I am going to be installing new door struts in my '99 Diablo this weekend.

Any tips from those who have done it before? :eusa_think:

Ya! Becarefull cause if you dont do it correctly it will take your arm or leg off!

I figured as much. I was going to hold the door open with a rope coming down from the top of my garage when removing the existing struts, rather than having someone hold the door. If they hold it up too far, the front top part of

the door frame could damage the front fender. Any other tips?

Well,

I did it myself. Here is page 1 of 2 on the procedure. I will post page 2 right after this post.

I am thinking that I should have used the Murcie struts as some have

suggested, since the new stock Diablo struts weren't much better than my old struts.

For those of you that have tried the Murcie struts on your Diablo, what do you think?

Do the doors go up by themselves? Are they hard to close?

Yes the Murc shock is stronger and the door will open on it own. The only thing is it dose take more effort to close it but as long as your not very old or have a bad arm or shoulder it should be no problem. I have installed alot of Murc door shocks in Diablos and they work great the door will lift it self all the the way up.

Do the Murcie struts use the same diameter ball stud and retainer pin set up, so I can leave the existing ball studs

mounted and re-use them?

okay Jeff, tell everyone what you did

Well,

I took the new Diablo struts off and put the Murcie struts on. :icon_thumleft:

This is how the Diablo doors should have worked in the first place! :icon_super:

The Diablo struts have 950N of pressure.

The Murcie struts have 1150N of pressure. About 20% more.

It makes all the difference. Doors go up by themselves now.

And closing them is a little harder, but nothing that is a problem.

The Murcie struts are the exact same size, use the exact same ball studs, etc.

A direct replacement.

I will post videos of "before" and "after" later tonight, after

I download the video files.

Great Job Jeff. Couldn't wait huh? Can you lift a small elephant with the doors now?

Dear Lamborghinisti,

This is my understanding.....

As I've been told, the murci strut exerts too much pressure on the door. I have the Driven Exotics door strut. It's stronger than a Diablo strut but not as much as a Murci strut. When I bought them, I talked to Steve Gleaner about this.

I wouldn't be surprised if this could be a Roadster specific issue. The doors are slightly lighter because the top frame is cut off and Roadsters are known for more body flex. Perhaps the stronger strut in a Roadster would cause more misalignment problems.

My doors also go up by themselves....very cool indeed. Just push the lock button and release. In the Roadster, you have to hold the door down for a second for the window to go down slightly (automatic operation) to clear the roof seal.

I couldn't wait! The "small elephant" comment was freaking me out, but the doors are not that

much harder to close, so my worries were unfounded.

Just for everyone's information'

Diablo strut part # is: 848646 It includes the struts, ball studs, screw on ball socket for bottom of struts, retaining clips, ......everything.

Murcie strut part # is: 410837987 It includes just the strut, but you can re-use the other parts from your old struts.

Videos of both will be posted soon. I just don't have the time right now!
