  4. Here's another exotic sports car to add to your stable. A.d. Tramontana has been working on an interesting two-seater that has played itself out as a concept vehicle in years past, but now the Spanish vehicle is ready for prime time. The Tramontana, at a weight of just over 2000 lbs., has been blessed with a 5.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V12 engine putting out 720 hp to launch it to a top speed of 182 mph. No word on pricing yet, but they'll likely vary as the company promises to customize them for each new owner. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/...icleId=109425#2

  9. A Maybach that pumps out SL65 AMG numbers Posted Dec 7, 2005, 8:00 AM ET by Erin Mays Old stodgy car? Not when AMG gets ahold of it. Mercedes-Benz tuner house, AMG, has taken Maybach’s “starter model,” under its wing to reshape it into the swan it knew it could be. The twin turbochargers blast the Maybach to 60 in under 5 seconds when utilizing the 612 horses and 738 lb.-ft. torque it has on tap. Interior and exterior style modifications have also been made to differentiate the vehicle from its less refined sibling, including ride height, 20 inch dubs, and fancier front and rear accessories.
  10. orget the powerful Carrera GT; for those who want the ultimate performance from a new Porsche, there's a far more spectacular - and cheaper - solution. Say hello to the sensational Ruf RT 12, a 650bhp development of the legendary coupé that offers 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds and a 225mph top speed. Built by Alois Ruf jnr, whose family firm has been modifying and assembling fast Porsches in Germany since 1948, the car combines the strengthened body of a current 997-generation 911 Carrera with the 3.8-litre bi-turbo from the 996. The result is a machine which can out-accelerate a Carrera GT, but costs half as much. Admittedly, the £171,000 price is still far from cheap, but few cars match the RT 12 for punch-per-pound. As well as engine tweaks, the Ruf has a modified bodyshell, with a new nose and imposing carbon fibre rear wing. It rides millimetres from the tarmac, while Pirelli P Zero tyres and huge air intakes front and rear make it obvious at first sight that this is no 'ordinary' Porsche. Inside, drilled aluminium pedals and carbon fibre details set the cabin apart, while you have to negotiate a custom roll cage to get in. On the road, the stiffened suspension causes the car to weave over uneven surfaces. Yet with so much steering feedback, it feels stable. And it needs to be, as the twin turbos respond instantly to throttle inputs, giving ferocious pace. Yet as the Ruf is so capable, you never feel anything but totally confident in its abilities - so it's surprisingly relaxing to drive. Also, the 650bhp engine happily runs at low speeds, and the suspension can be adjusted automatically, lifting the car to clear speed bumps and potholes. Far from being just another modified 911, the RT 12 is as carefully developed as any official performance special. But as Ruf's history dates back to Porsche's beginnings, we'd expect nothing else. 11. Electric car thrashes Ferrari and Porsche Posted Nov 19, 2005, 8:00 AM ET by Stuart Waterman San Francisco TV station KRON 4 has a video that rates as a must-see for all you alternative fuel, performance car types. The video clip features a recent drag race at Infineon Raceway between the all-electric Wrightspeed X-1, a Ferrari 360 and a Porsche Carrera GT. The minimalist X-1 is the product of Wrightspeed, Inc., Ian Wright’s Silicon Valley startup “using clean technology to make very energy efficient cars that are also very fast.” The X-1 prototype is a U.K.-built Ariel Atom (pictured), modified to use an electric power system from AC Propulsion instead of the Ariel’s Honda iVTEC 4-cylinder powerplant. While the X-1’s performance is nowhere near the dino-fueled Atom’s (0-100 mph in 6.86 seconds!), it was more than enough to leave the supercars in its dust. Read
  12. Ferarri working on a V10 to compete with Lambo Gallardo Ferrari’s F430 may get beefed up from a V8 to a 5.4L V10 to better compete with the Lamborghini Gallardo, which is the host of a 500 hp 5.0-liter V10 DOHC engine. Ferrari’s V10 will likely be based on the F430’s current V8, a 90-degree layout with four valves per cylinder in a 4.3L package. Read
  13. http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.ph...07&page=1&pp=15 *************************************************** Irvine man killed in Las Vegas crash Web site friends post memories of Mark Modaressi. By SONYA SMITH The Orange County Register CHAOTIC SCENE: Police say the driver who hit pedestrians Wednesday on the Las Vegas Strip acted intentionally. IRVINE – Mark Modaressi, 26, of Irvine, died Thursday after he and 11 other pedestrians were struck by a car in Las Vegas on Wednesday. Stephen M. Ressa, 27, of Rialto, is accused of deliberately crashing into a crowd on the Las Vegas Strip, killing Modaressi and Gordon Kusayanagi, 52, of Hollister. A dozen people were struck in the crash in front of the Bally's and Paris hotel-casinos. Six remained hospitalized Thursday. Modaressi died at 11:05 a.m. Thursday at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas. Kusayanagi died Wednesday. Today friends remembered the Irvine man on a Web site devoted to Lancer cars that Modaressi created in 2001. Ralph, a poster whose last name is not given on the site, wrote that he was Modaressi's neighbor and close friend, and was with him in Las Vegas prior to the crash. In announcing the death, he said the group of friends was unwinding in Las Vegas over the week and that on Wednesday afternoon, Modaressi was walking with three others when they were struck on the sidewalk. Ralph said the three escaped with bumps, bruises and scrapes but Modaressi suffered severe head trauma. Ralph also posted that Modaressi will be buried in the Maryland-Washington, D.C., area where he grew up. Another member on the site known as "ez76" from the San Francisco area wrote that if it had not been for Modaressi, he never would have met and made friends with people on the Web site. "Because of Mark's efforts, more than 30,000 people are able to come here every day, meet, talk about their cars and their lives," ez76 wrote. "He will be remembered because his efforts are now a part of all of our lives." Rialto police Detective Sgt. Reinhard Burkholder said Ressa was wanted for questioning in a near-fatal assault on his 54-year-old mother just days before the crash. "He punched her numerous times in the face and choked her into unconsciousness, and stood over her with a butcher knife," Burkholder said. Ressa has not been charged in that case. He faces charges of murder and attempted murder in Wednesday's crash. He was arrested at the scene and is being held without bail. One witness described seeing "humans being mowed down like a lawnmower," Las Vegas deputy police chief Greg McCurdy said Thursday. "It appears he did this intentionally." There was no record that Ressa had retained a lawyer. During interviews with detectives, Ressa appeared lucid and correctly answered questions about his ability to determine right and wrong, McCurdy said. But Ressa's statements were "bizarre in nature," McCurdy said. Results of alcohol and drug tests are pending
