  1. B.J. Baldwin has been around many well-constructed machines throughout his childhood life as he followed many forms of racing from Motocross to rally and road racing. Moving forward in his career, B.J. has gained four off-road championship titles under his belt and has just recently become the first person in history to drive from start to finish taking the overall win at the 45th running of the SCORE Baja 1000 in 2012. Switching gears Baldwin came to us with one thing in mind which was for more power while still utilizing the factory IHI turbochargers. We happily obliged and set him up with our SPE650 Plus package which consists of bolt-on components that improve the Nissan GT-R's power output considerably. K&N filters replace the OE panel filters reducing airflow resistance and improving the overall engine response, as well as engine bay appearance. One of our shop hands installing the the 1000cc injectors. SPE spec downpipes installed to increase the factory IHI factory turbochargers output. The complete exhaust system pictured above will do an excellent job over the stock restricting counterpart in enabling an increase of boost to 17+ psi. Our SPE Spec Tanabe exhaust system will provide a melody of a tastefully built machine. To give Baldwins 2013 Gun Metallic GT-R that extra pop we paint matched his calipers. The entire factory Brembo braking system will now look a lot sleeker behind the OE wheels. A bit of privacy goes a long way, we had Baldwins windows tinted not only for privacy but for the stealthy aspect. Last but not least we have Baldwins dyno numbers. There are three different maps pictured here one for 91 octane low boost (blue) as well as 91 octane high boost (green), and finally the E85 map making 579 wheel HP and 554 wheel TQ.   2. For all you curious people; Yes, this is the BenSopra GT-R that will be featured in the new Fast and the Furious 6. Watch out for the movie release on May 24th, 2013! The R’s Tuning GT-R is built to compete in some of the most well known road courses around the world. Ricky (owner for The R’s Tuning) and his team redesigned the entire factory cooling system to endure each lap session. This was only possible with the amount of area gained with the BenSopra aero package. Lastly, an updated tuning session was needed by SP Engineering before any vehicle testing begins. Proper Calibration of the ECM was done on 100 octane as it is known to burn cooler than your average 91 octane found at your local pump. This will offer more power but more importantly, reliability and head room as your fuel temperature rises. Stay tuned as The R’s Tuning has a lot more planned in the future which can be found here.   9. So to make a long story short, Batman triggered our signal and had us redo his already modded batmobile. So then he had his private transport company drop it off to us and it was all fun for us here at SPE! Recently at SP Engineering we’ve had our hands full with this 2001 Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 in Black Rage (1 of 5) in the world. This Diablo features a rare Diablo GT Package which isn't available in the U.S. GT Style Front Bumper / Carbon Fiber Spoiler GT Style Wide Body Front Fenders GT Style Front Bonnet Cover GT Style Side Skirts / Carbon Fiber GT Style Engine Air Intake Scoop on Top of Engine Bonnet / Carbon Fiber GT Style Engine Bonnet GT Style Rear Spoiler GT Style Rear Splitter Spoiler / Carbon Fiber This particular Diablo came to us in great condition and with only 4000 miles on the odometer; It’s practically brand new. The owner, however, wanted to freshen up the overall look of the car and that’s where SP Engineering comes into play. We came up with this blue print of modifications: MS Racing Exhaust with powder coated exhaust tips SPE Stage 2 cat delete Custom caliper paint job (silver) Work Meister S1 3 -Piece 18×8.5f 18×13.5r with custom paint finish Pirreli P0235/35/18 (front) P0335/30/18 (rear) Lowered ride height TiTek Lamborghini lug bolts Blacked out reflectors with transparent paint Our tech mounting fresh Pirreli P0235/35/18 on the custom Meisters. All 13.5″ width of wheels ready to be mounted on the car. The MS Racing Exhaust system is a beauty to look at, AND touch, just like the SP Tuned girls. Except you can’t touch the SP Tuned girls. The freshly powdercoated tips to match the menacing theme of black throughout the car. Who needs cats, anyways? Take it out, and throw it away. As she would say, “It’s in!!!”.   14. This past weekend has been a busy one for everybody out in Long Beach, Ca. With all the racing going on, we were honored to lend a hand to CRP Racing for the Pirelli World Challenge. Driving GT-R #2 is Mike Skeen, and Jason Daskalos in #12. When the weekend ended in Long Beach CA, CRP Racing sent both of their GT-R’s to our facility for further assistance in calibrating their Motec M800 engine management system. A little background on CRP Racing – Owner, Nick Short, has been around racing for 25+ years. He started his company back in 2001 with lots of experience on his hands. Known for working on Corvettes, Porsches, and BMW’s, Nick and his team were happy and excited to be in partnership with Nissan to debut the two Hawk Performance GT-R’s at World Challenge. [ Both CRP Racing and Nissan are excited to be entering a new era with the Nissan GT-Rs in World Challenge. "Nissan is looking forward to partnering with CRP Racing to campaign the Nissan GT-Rs in the 2012 Pirelli World Challenge GT class," said Ron Stukenberg, Senior Mgr., Motorsports Marketing Communications at Nissan. "Both CRP Racing and the Nissan GT-R have a long history of winning races and we anticipate that success will carry over to the Pirelli World Challenge series." Nick Short - "We're very happy with this new collaboration between CRP Racing and Nissan North America to develop the Nissan GT-Rs into a race winning package. We now have two great partners in the Hawk Performance Group and Nissan, which will allow CRP Racing to show its true potential as a car builder and a race team." ... ] Read more about the partnership here. As mentioned earlier, CRP brought in both of their GT-R’s for us to further calibrate. SP Engineering’s senior technician Naoto Negishi, being a former employee of Sakata Motorsports, has vast experiences with many Motec systems; with skills ranging from ECU calibration to data acquisition and race support. Naoto has completed years of tunes with 100% satisfaction from motorsport teams and drivers from all around the world. SPE’s COBB tuner Kristian Wong, helped out alongside with Naoto in the tuning process for the CRP GT-R’s. Fuel mapping, ignition mapping and boost control strategies were reviewed and fine tuned. With our new engine calibration, both GT-R’s smoothed out the power-band it had previously lacked; It’s like discovering nutella going well with crepes. You want more of it, no matter how much it will cost you in the end. We couldn’t stop there. Next, we further calibrated the Gear Change Ignition Cut function in the M800. The Gear Change Ignition Cut function enables the driver to make gear changes full throttle without the use of the clutch, allowing the rear mounted 6 speed dog-gear Hewland gearbox to be utilized to its fullest potential. With the power-band and upshift portion of the calibration sorted, it was now time to turn the attention to the downshift strategies. The CRP R35 utilizes dual OEM drive by wire throttle bodies controlled by a Motec DBW4 module allowing for full control of the DBW motors. With this combination we are able to program a down shift “Throttle Blip” which simplifies the drivers tasks; essentially eliminating the need for the driver to perform “heel & toe”. SP Engineering will be providing full tuning support at the next World Challenge race event (04/27/12) at Miller Motosports Park in Tooele, Utah. The tasks for Naoto at this event will include proper function confirmation of the above mentioned calibrations, tuning of the traction control system and overall data acquisition and data analysis alongside with Nick. Both GT-R’s are running our SPE750 turbos which feature high-temp coated and machined manifolds and the internals are replaced with true Garrett ball bearing type cartridges; The same turbos are used in the Mine’s GT-R package. We hope for the very best for CRP Racing in the future with the rest of the World Challenge series. A special thank you goes out to Nick for giving us this opportunity.
