emilio Report post Posted December 1, 2005 EmilioThe GT5 in Autosupermarket looks very interesting.Would it be possible for you to get me some more information? I know there is a phone number but my Italian is not good at all. I don't want to impose on you so if you cannot, that is perfectly OK.It is nice enough of you to find the information in the first place. I will follow up one way or another the advertise says car is perfect , as new, less than 10000 Km from new leather interior price is 52000 euro, but it is firm car is in north of Italy, Torino if you need more info it won' t be a problem for me to call the owner for you Aram let me know
ahitchcock Report post Posted December 1, 2005 BMWracer a good friend of mine owns an '86 GT5. Its horribly slow by todays standards, and you must be incredibly short to fit inside it. The pedals are offset hugely and the front end generates a tremendous amount of lift at high speed. Furthermore, the car would never run properly until years of engine work. But....I still love it, it was a great car to experience, and he loved it and kept it.

I know the driving position is typical italian car with offset pedals.I have never driven a GT5.I drove a 73L a long time ago and the front ened was all over the place.I figured with a front spoiler the lift would be taken care of.I guess not. The hp of the car doesn't worry me.It is very easy to get 600hp out of those engines relatively cheap. How is the fit and finish.I assume no 2 cars are the same. Thank you for the info Aram

ahitchcock Report post Posted December 4, 2005 Fit and finish is slightly below 1980's Ferrari and Lamborghini, but in no way intrusive to the ownership experience.
pockmark Report post Posted December 7, 2005 I am at the Long Beach Hilton right now and there is a gorgeous Pantera in the parking garage. Blue/Blue I would presume early 70's model..Absolutely pristine

abolfaz Report post Posted December 12, 2005 Believe it or not the last time I saw a GT5 was in Freeport Bahamas. It was red and I think an 84 or 85 sitting in a garage with some boxes on it. The car was owned by the owner of the McDonalds in Freeport and had been sitting because the clutch and exhaust had gone bad, it hadn't moved since the late 80's. The owner had purchased it back in 86 from the Steering Wheel in Ft. Lauderdale.

Aram Hi Aram I own a 1987 GT5S and know many DeTomaso owners and enhusiasts in Europe and the US. Dont forget the GT5S was the last version of the original cars and factory cars are rare, there were less than 100 made. The values have also firmed up lately, i know of two UK cars that have recently been sold to Australia, one for 50k sterling! As for the later Gandini cars produced from 90 to 93, the factory officially quoted production of 38 cars, two were used for crash testing, but our club and all others reckon that there are probably less than 25 cars made, there was a twin turbo called the Pantera 200, but only one was made, and it is owned by one of our members in the UK. You should know that this car was never DOT approved for the US market, and if you try and bring one in it will be seized and destroyed. There is a great guy in Mass. Pat Mical owns a DeTomaso shop called Performance Automotive, and he makes a full coversion to change the standard car to the later Si. If you ever need any help just send me a message. Just one more thing, I also own a ferrari BB512i and a Porsche 928 and am considering a Diablo sometime soon, but I cant ever imagine selling my GT5S, its a total blast and looks a milllion dollars. LPDADDY Report post Posted December 19, 2005 Hi Steve Thank you for the reply. If if find a car i intend to modify the brakes and the motor. How is the handling at hi speed? How is the chassis? Best regards Aram
steveirl Report post Posted December 20, 2005 The brakes on my car are stock, with the exception of the brake master cylinder, but if the original master is ok I wouldnt change it, my car brakes sharp. Handling is typical mid engined stuff, Press on through a bend and car understeers, but the grip is very high, and bodyroll is minimal. In wet its a different story, treat it with lots of respect. I have never driven my car at more than 240kph, but the single biggest improvement you can make is to change the front suspension arms for modified ones from a specialist, which allow for more caster, and lightens the steering. Did you know that the chassis was designed by Lambo design engineer Gianpaoulo Dallara! Mr DeTomaso poached him from Lamborghini. Here is a shot of my car. steveirl Report post Posted January 13, 2006 I bought the car almost 4 years ago, its engine had been rebuilt and was dynoed at 380bhp. Two years ago I sold the engine and replaced it with a new factory unit of 6.5 litres its now 450bhp and 460f/lb torque. Its pretty quick needless to say.
