What radar detectors are you guys using in your ride. My dealer is really guiding me away from any hard wired system. Claims only problems can result. That just leaves me with the Escort Solo S2 :?:

ive only used V1's, but they are great. a bit bulky, but their directional indicators are key. i've read in some previous posts (not sure if on this forum or not) of some guys having the V1 installed into their rear view mirror. never heard about problems doing that, though you do have to be careful when it comes to modding anything to do with electrics. the german...er, italian car manufacturers have never been known for their electronic reliability.

I don't know anyone that does not recomend the Valentine One. It's a great detector for about $400. I believe it now claims to hit ranges beyond the line-of-sight. Good Shit.

I think I am currently up to 6 V1's

Holy cow...you don't speed at all ;) Do you have any problems with electronic doors near a store at all with the V1? or any other false alarms

well, usually doors use the X band, which is almost always a false alarm (in CA anyway). you can program the V1 to completely ignore all X band signals.

Has anyone done their own V1 hard-wire installation? I had one installed in my '04 and it was great. Remote display under the A/C controls. Radar tucked next to the rear-view mirror.

I was thinking of doing my own installation in my SE...

  • 4 weeks later...

this might sound like a stupid question.... but are you guys mounting your V1's on the the rear window versus the front windshield... i am looking to buy one but i was considering the distance to the cigarette lighter for power source might be kinda far...

I did this in my M3 at Technik1:

Here's my thoughts:

- The installation isfantastic.

- The invisible radar is fantastic.

- Having the knob hidden under the dash and the lights in the mirror is perfect.

- It's not distracting and super easily visible.

HOWEVER:

When you cut up the V1 to install it and hide the antennas, the range gets dramatically cut down. DRAMATICALLY. I'm friends with some LE in the city that have access to radar guns. We went out testing a few pieces of gear: V1, V1 stealth mirror install, K40, K40 diffuser, Lidatek... and the results were VERY clear:

With radar, the stealth-install V1 range was about 1/4 of what the window mounted V1 got -- both front AND rear. The K40 was about in the middle of both the stealth-install V1 and the window mounted V1. On the laser front, older lasers were foiled by both the K40 Diffuser and the Lidatek. HOWEVER, newer units were NOT affected at all with the Lidatek or K40 Diffuser.

There was one unit, however, that scrambled the laser 100% of the time... Want to know what it was?

Please note: These tests were conducted by actual trained Law Enforcement officers who are currently on the job...
