Steve K Report post Posted February 20, 2011 can someone explain how the 458 is getting such a huge increase in HP and Torque from just an exhaust ? there is a tuner claiming +50 hp and 100lb of torque, and another one was around 60-80 hp. is the factory exhaust THAT restrictive ? and how could a 4.5 liter n/a v8 find another 100lb's of torque ? allan, chime in ! Simply all horseshit. Think about it for moment. Super highly efficient highly strung motor that has been tested to infinity by leading sports car manufacturer versus some random four fingered welder in a dark shed. Over 110bhp/liter and over 110Nm/liter stock NA motor. I would guess that if motor is built to gain from certain backpressure and pulse from manifold and exhaust you will loose always at least lots of torque. Peak hp may even stay intact but that is not written into rock either.
Allan-Herbie Report post Posted February 20, 2011 From what Ive read the gains they are getting are around 60-70hp from exhaust/ECU/Air filters... Plus if you go with the titanium exhaust you save around 70lbs.. The problem Im running into is I like the stock exhaust, it sounds great in race mode, and quiet as a mouse in sport.. Changing exhaust eliminates the valves..
highroller FXX Report post Posted February 20, 2011 Is there a way to make the car go faster by taking off envitonmental protections? On topgear, clarkson noted the F40 and MCf1s were so fast because they were not envitonmentally friendly. I don't know anything about mechanics however. RyanH Report post Posted February 21, 2011 The factory exhaust on the 458 is pretty restricted. Fabspeed was able to squeeze out +68 HP with headers, sport cats, mufflers, ecu tune and filters which is realistic. Who ever claims they are seeing +100 ft/lbs torque on a NA V8 with those mods are full of shit.
