Anyone have a Razr/Maxx?

Im thinking about getting one of these phones tomorrow. Regardless Ill buy something tomorrow. I have a few friends with the Razr and they love them but I still have a few hang ups. Since it doesnt have the removable battery could that be a problem? iPhone has done this route for years, but how does it work for someone that keeps their phones for the full two years? My current Incredible was amazing for the first year, but lately I have been having issues, so I pull the battery a few times a week. And how long will a battery even last? If I get the Maxx will I just have AWESOME battery life for a year then the battery craps out? At least if I buy something else I can buy a new battery if needed.

Any suggestions? Other phones to consider? iPhone is on the list but tell me why if you suggest it.

Thanks

If you don't know why you would need an iPhone, then don't get the iPhone. Motorola makes solid handsets, can't go wrong IMO. Love the razor. Which carrier are you with ?

I have asked many people why I should buy the iPhone. The most solid answer I have heard is "it works". Makes sense and I was/still am tempted.

Im with Verizion. Would really like to get a 4G phone before they eliminate the grand fathered users.

I love my Razr. Works well, looks good.

With data off the battery will go for up to 3 days depending on how much you use it. With data on and constant use, it will last you the full day no problem. I can say I have one and only one problem, and it's that if I need to reach the top right corner of the screen with my thumb (I'm left handed) its JUST out of reach and I need to re-adjust the phone in my hand.My friend has a Motorola Atrix and its got a 4 inch screen and it's the perfect size. At 4.3 inches the Razr is a just a little too big for my liking. Having said that, when I use the Atrix I appreciate the size of the Razr.

Both he and I are satisfied with our Motorolas. I think when I get the Icecream Sandwich update the phone will be even better.

Edit: To add, the Razr used to randomly turn off once in a while the first month or two I got it. It did so only a handful of times. Since the update last month, it hasn't done any such thing.

I read the original post wrong

If going Verizon either get the galaxy nexus (best phone out IMO) or hold out until October for the new iPhone, which will be 4G. As long as you don't terminate your current contract you should be good with being grandfathered in. IMO those are the only 2 phones worth considering. Depending on what you need it for, iPhone is where it's at. I have both and love them for different reasons. Android for multitasking and getting things done like email, rss feeds, maps etc. but iPhone is just really dependable. If I had a dollar for every time my android randomly reset, or was typing a message and the application closed, or needed directions and the satellite needed to be reset...you get my point.

Why iPhone ? Works great, all you really need in a smart phone if you're not using it for an extension of the workplace. It seems like simple things are too cumbersome to do on an iPhone sometimes for that. Great support. Good warranty. Better internal engineering with higher quality parts, software/apps run smoother. To an extent you can do cooler things with it. I think they keyboard is better for typing on an iPhone. Lots of reasons. Feel free to ask :). Only reason I you're position I would recommend the galaxy nexus over iPhone is the 4g dilemma.

Love my RAZR too. Very rarely do I have any issues. No problems really with the battery and I've had the phone since October

Getting the Maxx. It will be nice to have a phone with non smart phone battery life.

Same here. What's the deal with the grandfathered users? I thought I read somewhere recently that in order to get a 4G phone we would have to choose a tiered data plan and would no longer have unlimited?

you cant go wrong with the razr... I would have bought the maxx but it was not out when I bought my razr... I had the galaxy nexus... did not like it, felt cheap, did not work well...returned it for the razr...

My understanding, from a Verizion CSR, is that we are grand fathered until the end of summer(just a rumor official date isnt out). Then at that time when you do a new contract you will need to choose a tiered plan. Up until then we are good if we do a new plan. After GF data users are gone you will have to buy a full price phone or a used phone.

How bad is the battery life of the regular Razr? I have a Maxx being held for me but still wonder if I need it. 2-3 days without a charge would be nice, but Im so used to chargeing every night anyway. But with the Maxx you get the pre-installed SD card and you can do a few other things(stream live video, but how useful is that).

I have a RAZR MAXX, and I have come from a long line of HTC smart phones, beginning with the ol' PPC-6700. God I loved that brick. An HTC Touch, an Eris, and finally the Incredible 2 rounded out my phones over the span of nearly ten years, all rooted or modded.

Anyway, this is my first Moto phone and there are very few worth wile rom's for it. All the Dev's are waiting for the OTA ICS to drop either this month or next. Then (I hope) the flurry of good stuff will begin.

As far as the non-removable battery goes, it's really a non issue. If you push and hold the power button and the vol down button the phone will (reluctantly) just shut off much like holding the power button on a pc. Battery life is on par with my rooted Dinc2, which is to say excellent. I can go 1- 2 days of just viciously beating on the battery before it pleads for the charger. 3 days easy if I'm mindful of my use. If you were hell bent on taking the battery out, it does come out, you just have to work a little harder at it then just popping it out with a fingernail. Guys have vids up swapping the batteries between the RAZR and the RAZR MAXX to see if they'd fit.

The phone works well enough for me and the last OTA update did help the few issues that existed. The 4g LTE will hit 40+ meg download speeds and I've seen as high as 15 megs upload speed. Totally ridiculous for a phone, but great for moving the occasional large file up or down from the laptop with a tether. Kicks the shit out of the speeds from the T1 at work. I normally turn off 4g as 3g is much easier on the battery and fine for streaming tunes, watching vids, or whatever else I choose to do.

The RAZR also has a very neat feature called "smart actions". You can set it up so the phone ringer and brightness go to max when it sees your work network, then go silent and dim when you go home. It'll also pull up your music program when you plug into the headphone jack. It will respond to location, time of day, movement, and quite a few other "triggers", and you can set up the response to do pretty much anything. Send texts, emails automatically, turn on or off phone features, really too much for me to describe here, but in summary it makes your "smart" phone intelligent and aware.

Did I mention that Google's Ice Cream Sandwitch will be push updated to the phones by the end of Q2?

on my razr I get a full day of use, and thats using it thru out the day for certain apps I have downloaded, if you use it as a phone the battery lasts alot longer, but surfing or using gps etc, does eat up the battery... I would have bought the maxx if it was out when I bought my phone.

Im getting the Maxx. Had to order it through customer support since the store I went to wouldnt use the upgrade credit if they were matching the online pricing. So it should be here Friday.

I just couldnt buy the regular one knowing I could get the Maxx for just a little more.

Phone came in today. Its defiantly different than the HTC Sense UI. That will take some getting used too. But it shouldnt be hard, slowly getting used to it already. First time I have tried Swype, doubt Ill keep that enabled, but for texting it works nice. Emails Im not a huge fan. Battery life is yet to see. It threw me for a curve ball with Motorola phones only doing the battery by 10% increments, I didnt think it was charging. But I guess this big battery takes a while to charge fully. So we will see. 4G may just be our area, but it seems spotty at best. So far Im excited to learn a new phone.

I have the Razr Maxx and would recommend it in a heartbeat.

I actually originally got the normal Razr for a couple days then exchanged it for the Maxx. The 4g really sucks up battery life, the Maxx is the only way to go if you are going to be using 4g a lot.

I have the razr and my biggest issue with it is that it isn't the Maxx. The picture quality is awesome on screen (haven't uploaded to computer yet) and HD recording is nice.

Have had the new RAZR for 10 days now and I'm extremely happy with the purchase. The shorter battery life doesn't bother me, and it's far improved over my Droid X, so no complaints so far.

Moto pushed ICS to some a few days ago (June 22nd) but I haven't received the OTA download option yet, so I'm wondering if some of you have gotten the update to 4.0 and your thoughts.

I just got out of an epic fight with my RAZR. Completely self induced, mind you. I had gotten impatient and decided to put the "Official/Leaked" version of ICS on it, and ended up bricking it multiple times. I finally got it unbricked, (now hereto referred by me as The 3 day Trial of Pain) and got ICS loaded and rooted. (allows wireless tethering, ad block install, ect ect)

You guys are going to love ICS. It's like someone shipped my phone to UGR for turbos. Just wait for the OTA, and save yourself the pain. As good as the Razr is, it gets that much better on Ice Cream.

I can't wait, I actually went out and bought some ice cream sandwiches.
