koenig928 Report post Posted May 13, 2015 From what Ive seen, I think people will pay a premium for a Countach in its Euro form, without the ugly bumpers. I certainly would. I believe it can go both ways. Collectors, the main buyers of these now, like it all original, even if its ugly. I personally would convert, but would appreciate an original car more being offered at a dealer. Easier to tell if its clean and never been in an accident untouched. Even though you make a valid statement, I cannot think of 1 buyer who would prefer N/A bumpers and the other bullshit that was added on to the countach to federalize it. I actually believe a euro conversion would add a premium to the car .

Allan-Herbie Report post Posted May 13, 2015 I thought I read somewhere that the first skirts appearing on '87 cars were outsourced and then the factory took over later. Is that what happened? And then there was the matter of the skirts with a just few strakes vs. the skirts with several strakes like yours (that I never followed up on to run the story to ground). The slatted skirts were factory. Koenig did make some aftermarket skirts for the car as well.

koenig928 Report post Posted May 13, 2015 Please . Even have an example 1974 Jag E-type has hideous rubber blocks front and back. I looked at one, was freshly restored and for sale by a Jag specialist. I said why didn't you do European bumpers and he said American collectors frown on it. You also see it with the 308 and not going European bumpers. My biggest pet peeve, seen in both the Ferrari 512BB and the Porsche 930 81 to 85 is replacing the odometers for miles from kilometers. But for some reason most Americans see this as o.k.. They like "American" spec for the most part, unless it comes to hp. This is not to say collectors wont do it themselves. Its when they buy unaltered is always more value. They pay a premium but its for an original Euro spec car.

Have you owned a countach ? No other super at has been butchered like it to comply with the N/A standards . And for your info, the e types with the ugly US bumpers are the least collectibles, the early 3.8's did not have them and they are the ones that have gone through the roof . I've kept mine all original. Paint, Alpine cassette, bumpers, etc. Even though I do like the look of the euro bumper better, originality is more important to me. You could atleast pop that front bumper off, and replace it with the Anniversary style without touching a thing. Old one slides off, new one slides on. Can literally be done in minutes, and then put right back to stock.
