All these big $ car rallies, are they really fun?

I'm going to put together my own rally next summer in Germany and Italy, I know the route I want to use, hotels, and have a friend to drive the support car for luggage etc.

I'm thinking 6-7 days, just a few cars, I'm not making a dime, every one can pay their hotel ahead of time, the schedule of days and route will be defined and kept loose so if someone wants to sleep a hour late it's all good.

More to come 5 cars max, including me. German is fun because we can drive fast, Italy is ok in spots, I found a new road there 3 days ago that is great for hi speed driving.

June 2016 is the plan, no coke, no whores. Fast cars, good food and a relaxed time. Mite do a lap and add a couple nights in Monaco. I'm not down to drive more than 5 hours a day.

I have a pretty good handle on the plan now, I'm back in Germany in 7 weeks and Monaco in August for a couple weeks, so I'll have a more solid plan. I been coming to Germany 2-5 times a year since 06. So I have a solid grip on things here and friends here who are car guys.

I'm gonna do it right, non profit, relaxed time with friends enjoying our cars.

I used to set up a lot of drives, I once organized a 75 car rally from LA to San Diego. It's fun, but often times there's just too many folks and lot of liability. Usually everyone is ok, except for a group of 3-4 knuckleheads that'll wreck it for everyone. I'm a fan of a group having a fun cruise in shared passion, I do not support endangering the public so you can show off.

No I just like doing drives by myself or with 3-4 other people I know max. I've seen too much idiocy on public roads, or guys run into each other so I will else someone else deal with those headaches. Gumball looks like it could be fun, but I could not imagine a rally for that long...that's way too much of the wrong kind of attention for me.

As i had said in a separate thread, these things are for attention getting whores, who then go an rampage because they think because they have money, they can act like idiots and get away with. And then you have the posses and the siphoning group who is always present and looking for freebies everywhere.

It is very annoying, i don't want to drive around and party with a bunch of people i don't know.

A big pass.

And then we have a certain member on the board which we all know who goes to all these events and is delusional enough to consider himself a rally driver Have fun boys, this is as lame as it gets.

This completely slipped my mind, another perk is you can get falsely accused of an accident that you didnt cause.

This happened on the Gumball several years back. Me and some other Lambo owners were following the rally from OC to San Diego. Fred (one of the founders of Gold Rush Rally?) accused us of causing this accident. I saw this happen in my rear view mirror about 1/2 mile behind me, slowed down and then I saw Fred and a few other cars pass me and immediatley exit.

They called the CHP saying there were several lambo that cut off the RV and caused the accident and the CHP put out a call to all officers to be on the lookout for these 3 Lambos. We got a copy of the call.

Turned out to be a real fucked up day, had a long post about it here on LP but it is gone now. Forutnately this and another vid shows Lambos were no where near the accident.

I will stay far away from these events.

Did a search on this thread last night and realized Jalopnik posted about it.

I was VERY pissed when this happened, it seems a few of the forums I posted it on deleted the thread (some still have it). I generally let things go but the shit that happened and the potential liabilty/lawsuits/misery that could of happen that day I have to thank to poster for not taking down that vid.

Awesome plan, do you have people alreadly lined up for this event? If not, what is the cost to ship a car from the states to Europe? To be honest, I am not a big fan of traveling but a run in a foreign country would be my ideal of a great vacation. Or even a good run here locally without the cameras and posting it all over youtube. Keeping things on the low pro would be a plus.

With all this being said, I would love to setup a good local Lambo run (or non local run). No papparazi, no BS. Maybe a few days. I would be down for LA ,Vegas, MOAB (best place ever) and then back. 5 days max. Anyone interested PM me. All cars, but only good people....

I would be open to even longer events.....

Best thing is to rent locally, dealing with shipping and insurance logistics can be a major headache.

I have one person with a car lined up so far-me!!!

I also have a good friend who is going to drive the support van/car for us.

I'm looking for 3-4 people who are down to do a organized run for about 7-9 days, i'm open to suggestions from anyone who wants to go.

I have the spot in Germany to start and receive the cars that are shipped in, my one friend who lives in Germany night bring his F12(he aint a FF), I have a nice loop in mind, starts in Munich and ends there. That can be modified if we want to drive more in Germany-fast. Night driving there is better as there's less traffic we drove his F12 320-330kms/hr at night no problem several trips between Munich and Augsburg(where his businesses are)

Clearly there will need to be a agreement among participants on where we are going and what the schedule is. I have a few nice hotels in Italy where the cars are safe lined up, Monaco for 2 nights would be fun and cars are GREAT there. Switzerland is beautiful thru the Alps but you can NOT drive fast there(game over-in a BIG way).

that's my plan, to keep the cars safe, have fun, go to the factory if we like, hell we could stop by Ferarri, Pagani and Lambo all three factories.

Like I said, No coke, whores, or jack-off's. my friend in Germany will arrange the shipping. I'm taking my new SV, I'll have it by then.

Whats it gonna cost? I dont know. Figure 5000Euro for good hotels, food, fuel. Thats on the high. flying to Germany for me is cheap as I use Amex miles on Virgin and fly Lax-london 1st class for free, I'd guess with the cars $10K. I'm not collecting any $ at all from anyone, there will be reservations at each stop for the hotel-on your card. They only thing we need to do is pool up the $$ for the support driver, he is a pretty well known guy in SoCal(he has since moved) and a great photog. So we have to take care of him.

this aint a 20K or 30K trip but it aint like a Malibu run or Cars & coffee. It's a private run that anyone who particapates in can have input into what we do before it's decided. Maybe we decide to chill in Monaco for 3 instead of 2 nights, i'm cool with that. At the end of the day everyone who participates will like the plan or they can opt out, this way it's all good from day one.

that's my loose idea as of now.

I'll start a thread on it next post

LV Eric that sounds pretty interesting, what are the dates?

what ever we all agree on!!

I think june 2016 would be best, May can still be a bit cold, north of the Alps.

If you want start a thread and lets organize a plan. i could start it, but my writing is so bad. or i could start it.

soon as we have 5 solid(including me) people, then we can take it private after that.

i saw 4 Cobra guys coming down the Alps on Wednesday afternoon, they pulled into a gas station. one guy stayed back got fuel, the others carried on. they had the ear plugs going, and everything. I had this idea before I saw them, seeing them just sealed it for me. i'm in. even if i'm alone i'm there.

Start a thread, I am keen, timing sounds right for me at least for now, how about we line it up with a major car related event in Europe? Car show, race event, etc.?

I would be down for this rally, but as Fortis said it would be cheaper to rent than to ship, plus the reliability/time of shipping a 12 year old Murci across the pond is debatable. I would be open to renting or shipping my 2015 GTR solely for reliability reasons.

Exotic rental rates over there would help as well. Worst comes to worse, I can fly out there buy a new Harley and follow behind the crew. I know there are a few Harley owners on this forum who would be down for that.

Realisticly speaking many LP members are here in the states, shipping a car is too much work. Find a local rental company and this will be a "realistic" trip. Money isnt generally the issues, the PIA would be.

But overall its sounds like a good plan..

But seriously, the no "whore" thing is very unreasonable......

Missing the 50th anniverary euro run was dissapointing, I am sure there are a ton of Lambo owners in my same position. I dont care for the police escort, but soemthing along the same roads and a visit to the factory would be amazing. I am sure this is on LP would give us special attention at the factory.

I just did Monaco - Milan - Lake Como - Over the Alps - Ring - Spa - Le Mans this week. Thinking about shipping some cars to do it same time next year. It is a significant amount of hassle though, and I definitely would not even want to think about attempting it in a Gumball-style group of 100 cars.
