Smash Boy Report post Posted May 13, 2017 Seeing it in motion, the car is more appealing! It even sounds better than I thought. Not amazing, but pretty good. Definite winner when you factor in the performance and race car level tuning.
Track Addict Report post Posted May 13, 2017 Such a technically advanced piece of kit to work with right out of the gate. I'd really enjoy the videos of when this thing goes racing on real tracks with the likes of all the hypercars that are out there. Can the lack of power be made up for by the handling and grip performance it offers through the corners and such? Time will tell. Can the lack of power be made up for by the handling and grip performance it offers through the corners and such? Time will tell. They call it a Le Mans race car detuned and softened for the road compared to the euro competition which makes street cars first then tunes them up for Le Mans (488, 675). So in that regard it should be pretty formidable. On a technical track, anything goes and HP isn't everything.
Fortis Report post Posted May 13, 2017 Some reviewers say it's not a very good road car but who cares? I'd love to have one.
DBK Report post Posted May 13, 2017 The road car is a little faster than a 675LT so it's not really going to touch the hypercars on a single lap basis. Give it 15 minutes and maybe. But beyond raw speed the GT attraction is really the fact that it has the driving dynamics of a race car. I know a race car driver that has driven all of the last-gen big 3 and he said the GT had the best steering at speed of any car he's ever driven, period. Most of the guys with racing backgrounds were really glowing about the car more than traditional auto journalists, which makes sense that the chassis dynamics are much more similar to what they are used to than the garden variety supercar. One of the race car drivers told me he felt it was more like an F40 than anything else. I'll take that. I think the moaning about how brutal the car is is overblown. It's definitely loud inside, but the suspension is shockingly compliant even on our shitty roads IMO. They added a lot of that alcantara interior paneling for NVH reasons at the last minute, but when I was at the factory seeing my car in production I told them to leave that shit out. They added this giant NVH panel behind the seats to mitigate noise from the engine bay, but it covers all this beautiful bare carbon. I will live with the additional mechanical noise in exchange for the view. It's a really crazy mechanical symphony from inside. All kinds of weird shit clicking and whirring and hissing. When the fans start it sounds like a fcuking harrier taking off lol. I can see why people would complain if they were approaching the car as some type of daily driver, but that's kind of a ludicrous approach for this car. It's a crazy machine. How many cars have underbodies that look like this?
Fortis Report post Posted May 13, 2017 DBK that sounds like a blast, I'd take your approach exactly, I still can't believe people complain about the SV race seats The only thing I dislike, from the photos, is the look and shape of the steering wheel, I think it looks terrible but that might change if I saw it IRL. Can we have more photos please?
DBK Report post Posted May 14, 2017 How about Arancio Borealis? Looks good in Lambo color! Mine will be done later this week. We've run several through our building and have 3 in storage currently. Car looks good in every color. The entire interior you really need to sit in to judge. It's spartan, but everything other than the standard ford headlight switch is pretty much milled aluminum or carbon. The steering wheel really has to be packed with buttons because 1 - there is no dash space and 2 - because of the fixed seating position (seat back only reclines) they needed to ensure all significant functions were accessible from the driving position. I love the steering wheel in person.
Assman Report post Posted May 14, 2017 DBK, can you comment on the price of the car. I'm hearing ~$650k. 😵
DBK Report post Posted May 15, 2017 DBK, can you comment on the price of the car. I'm hearing ~$650k. Sure. Base MSRP is $447k + $3k GGT = $450k. I think most of the cars will end up between $475k and $525k MSRP. If you go apeshit with a custom color and every option possible, you're around ~$550k. I keep seeing people say the black Heritage is $600k, which is funny because it's exactly $100k less. There is literally no way to make the car $650k, and you really have to be trying to get above $550k. Unlike a lot of cars though, the "base" car at $450k still looks bad ass, so it's not like you need to load up. This car below would be ~$452k. I'm a bit of a steering wheel snob myself, but it's harder to criticize the newer hypercars that have all of these driving aid buttons on the wheel.......and an airbag of course. F40, F50, early Diablo......those car had the best steering wheels. BTW, speaking of the F40.....if your friends think the F40 is still the benchmark for steering then its telling me that my manual steering obsession is not so crazy after all. 30 years later, what gives??
