  1. Night vision equipment does not require infrared. You can get by without it with Gen.1 junk, and you'll be fine with Gen.2
  2. There is a guy on eBay that sells thermal imaging goggles. Quite bulky and not cheap, but will see through fog, smoke, etc. I have no personnel experience. Thermal goggles.
  3. I know that both Jason Fried and TED talks are pretty popular, so here they are together.

    Survival kits.

James Wesley, Rawles book is nothing more than a shopping list. There is no information on practical techniques. One had better have deep pockets to follow his advice.
  5. A Sentra cannot push a rig off the road. Either the driver panicked and jerked the wheel, or, more likely, the Sentra hit the steer tire and turned the wheel for him.
  6. Shifting without the clutch in a synchronized transmission will destroy it. Period. The synchronizer will take up the difference in output shaft speed and layshaft speed. This accomplishes two things: I) It is very hard on the synchronizer. II) The driver will never learn to shift properly since there is no negative reinforcement. A heavy duty transmission (I.E. Eaton-Fuller 13 speed) is not synchronized and is simply very different from automobile transmissions in other ways as well. For instance they have fewer and larger dog teeth. It is acceptable and easy to shift these gearboxes without the clutch because: I) They are built to handle mind-boggleing stress (2000+ ft-lbs. on one end and 80K+ on the other). II) A driver will learn hard and fast how to shift properly since the transmission is unforgiving. In a world of E-gear and syncro transmissions there is no reason not to use the clutch. If a driver wants to double-clutch (rev match) this is fine. It will be easier on the car, smoother shifts, and can be fun.

If someone is in the market for a Mossberg, this is the one to get.
