  1. Congrats man!!! I think it looks good without the them. Then again, I'm partial. I have a Euro rear bumper with no bumperettes on my 996
  2. Sounds great man!! I have a B&B muffler on my 930 and I think it's too quiet. I'm considering bypassing it too.
  3. Awesome man!!! Congrats!! I second the request for more pics!!
  4. I agree there are better wheels out there but I already had these and I couldn't find a matching set of tires for the stock 16". So I figured why not.
  5. Thanks! Sounds like you know the area Yup, Luis hit the nail on the head. The autos feel heavier, sluggish, and are slower than the manuals but for sitting in traffic you cant beat an auto.
  6. That looks great!!! Did it look like that when you had it? It was a modded RS America right?
  7. Some may remember from my 930 thread where I mentioned I really wanted some Folger wheels for it. Well I bought some but the offset was all wrong for the 930 but the fit the 928 just fine. What do you guys think? I autocross my convertible a few times. It did well.
  8. Thanks guys!! LOL, Allan I actually liked the Camaro eventhough it drove and was built like a decent handling 80's truck.
  9. My sister wrecked my Camaro, so while looking for a cheap daily driver, I came across a 928. I loved the way the car drove. I just had to have a 928 as a DD. I had almost given up on a 928 after looking and being dissapointed by every local 928 advertized due to their condition. Then I came across by accident a very clean '89 928. The rest is history. My coworkers joke around that my hobby is collecting old Porsches; they may be on to something. :help:
  10. Nice vid. Man, I havent been to Mexico in years ...
  11. .... but the ad states: Sounds like turbos are retarted according to the ad. They all overheat, need rebilds, get poor gas milage, have crappy 4-speeds, are unreliable and aren't that much faster..
  12. Thanks guys!. I think I will keep the Fuchs! Anyways, here's an update. Put chain covers back on Painted some tin using high temp engine paint Installed, AIR injection equipment and buttoned everything back up. I found a Euro catless exhaust that had been gutted. I think I'm going to change the exhaust again though, Even gutted, it's too quiet for my taste. I fired it up and it ran good...for a few hours. Then it became hard to start and staarted misfiring. So I tested the fuel pressures. Sure enough my accumulator was bad. I also suspected the injectors plus bad gas were the cause of the misfiring. The car had a few gallons of old bad gas with a few gallos of fresh gas. So I drained & refilled the tank, replaced the accumulator and swapped out the injectors for a good set. Here's my rig to measure flow to match the injectors to the fuel head. Put everything back together again and fired it up. It runs great now. Now to move on to cosmetics. Here are the Fuchs before Sanded them down, ready to polish Lip now polished, ready to mask Masked, ready for paint After I also took off the bumperetts and Euro impact strips for plain impact strips. I think I like the look. I think I'll leave the bumperettes off and plug the holes. Here are some pics from today I did run into a small setback after the photoshoot. It was hot today and I had the car idling with the A/C on, All of a sudden I hear a pop, followed by vapor/smoke and hissing. I shut the car off, pop the lid, and I see oil gushing from the spoiler area. Tuns out my A/C line on the driver's side blew a hole. All the other lines looked like they have been replaced due to the fact that they show no cracks while this one was very cracked. I had a bad feeling about this line since day one. Here's the motor all clean again. Now to get working A/C again and recondition the leather.
  13. Thanks again guys. Soup, the other one is a 996tt. I posted it a while back.
  14. Thanks guys. Luis, would you do stock finish or polished petals with black background?
  15. I was looking for something to replace the VW Type 3 I just sold. So I just picked up a '80 930 that hadn't been driven much in the last twenty years. It ran okay but still had minor issies. So the plan is to make sure it was road worthy and do the following: test compresion - done check head studs - done adjust valves - done replace oil sending unit (bad) and oil switch leaking) - done replace plugs, wires, cap, rotor - done replace bypass valve seals - done replace dist vacuum unit - done replace air pump replace smashed air tubes rebuild turbo, had excessive play - done rebuild wastegate - done replace engine tin seal -done install tensioner safety collars -done Paint headlight rings - done refinish Fuchs or new wheels. recondition leather Here are some pics of the car when I first brought it home. I only drove the car for a few days but I can say that this is my favorite car so far. Can't wait to get it back on the road! First thing I did was check compression. It was good, from 122psi to 128psi cold. Next pull the valve covers, check studs, and adjust valves. All studs checked ok; whew that was a relief. Then I checked the turbo. I found it to have axial play; turbo rebuild time! Here's the freshly rebuilt turbo. Went something a little different than the usual K27. Its a zero clearance GT35/3LDZ hybrid. We'll see how this performs. The turbo builder swore I'd like this better than a K27 Here's the bearing on the old turbo; a little worn lol. Now to address the wastegate. The car never hit full boost before. So I suspected either weak spring, leaking 'gate valve, boost leak (confirmed) and/or worn turbo (also confirmed by now). The plan was to refurbish my wastegate. Yeah, good luck with that. Here's what I found: I figured it would take way more work than what I was willing to do to get it right. I like tinkering with cars but not that much! lol So I found a good refurbished gate for an exchange for mine I thought about upgrading to the Carrera tensioners but after reading horror stories about those failing too, I decided to safety collar mine instead. Freshly pulled covers Collars installed Now to paint some parts, install smog crap, and put it all back together. I also cant decide if I want to refinish the Fuchs or gets something else. I really like these wheels for some reason:
  16. They are good but not $2k-the-sales-people-try-to-get good
  17. haha, my thoughts exactly. When I saw the pics the first thing that came to mind was, "That looks like something Honda would make."
  18. Damn you Alan!!! You are making me want an aircooled turbo again!! I thought you were done with aircooled 911's? What about a Singer?
  19. Thanks guys!! XLR82XS, the wheels are Gemballa Design Speedline Corse Lightning, I've had the 996 for a little over a year. I still have the Esprit but now with bigger t28's turbos. Here's are some recent pics with the Esprit:
