  1. I see; on a similar note, how about craftsmanship mechanical clocks, are they made by single people? For example, the clocks where it's say a beautifully-sculpted and painted dragon with a mechanical clock in the middle, could one craftsman build the whole thing, or again would that be divided amongst people?
  2. Yeah, I read the individual parts are made by companies, they use precision computer machining and all that to make parts of a precision and intricacy that were impossible to make in the past, I think it's a great combination of modern-technology with old-world technology. Regarding the assembling though, is it just the parts are assembled by various companies but one person does the assembly of the watch itself (utilizing the parts), or even that is divided amongst different people?
  3. Hey I am just wondering, regarding these expensive mechanical craftsmanship watches, are these designed, engineered, and made by individual watchmakers, or is there someone who designs the watch, another person who engineers the movement, and then craftsmen who actually build them? And does one craftsman build the whole watch, or does say one build the mechanical portion, then another does stuff like inlaying the jewels (if the watch has any, by jewels I mean wathces with like diamonds, rubies, etc...)? Or for some companies, is it the above, but then others are designed, engineered, and built by one guy? Thanks, ---Wheels---
  4. H2 is an awesome vehicle IMO. Didn't know they had redesigned the interior and changed the drivetrain for '08.
  5. Hey, I've read on the Internet in some places that GM is going to kill the Hummer H2. I'm wondering, is this true? Or are they considering it? I think it would be a shame to stop Hummer production, this is one of my favorite vehicles, plus I haven't driven one yet
  6. You guys also forgot that other great American vehicle: PICKUP TRUCKS! A good 4WD pickup truck (three locking differentials, solid axles front and rear) will go through just as much as any of those other vehicles, and tow a lot more too, plus it has lots of room to carry stuff. Personally I'd take a Ford F-350, a Dodge Ram 2500, or a Chevy Silverado 2500 with Duramax, with three locking differentials, six-inch suspension lift and some beefy tires. Would go through most anything in the hands of a capable driver. And if not, then a G-Wagon, Jeep Grand Cherokee, or Wrangler. I don't know if I'd go THAT far, I mean the Land Rover Defender is NOT a soccer mom vehicle. That is a true hardcore off-road machine. It is the vehicle of choice for many in the wilderness even. The Mercedes G-Wagon is also a hardcore off-roader, I mean you don't get much better than solid axles front and rear and three locking differentials. The G-Wagon was based off a military vehicle, that's why it has such a utilitarian look to it. The Jeep Grand Cherokee has also always been very off-road capable. The Jeep Wrangler is hands down up there as well, provided you get it with three locking differentials. Otherwise, it is very watertight, solid 4WD system, strong engine, etc... The old Toyota Landcruisers which had solid axles front and rear and three locking diffs were hardcore off-roaders too. The Hummer H1 I actually do not think I would want for a few reasons: 1) It's too big, it might not fit through certain areas 2) It doesn't have solid axles, meaning the differentials on it might hit the terrain if you are trying to get over some big obstacles. 3) I believe the AWD system on it relies on the braking system, meaning it will wear your brakes down faster and also if you press the brakes it disengages the AWD (it may rely on locking diffs, but I'm pretty sure the HUmmer system is one in which the brakes are used). IMO for such a situation it's best to just have the 4WD systems that let you just mechanically lock the wheels together. As to which is more capable off-road, the H1 or the Jeep Wrangler, that really depends. One is a wide, heavy vehicle with four-wheel independent suspension, the other is a light vehicle with two solid axles. I think it really depends on the driver being knowledgeable about off-roading and also about the vehicle they're driving and it's capabilities. For example, an old Ford bronco in the hands of a good driver they say will go virtually anywhere those other vehicles will. And that Unimog is bad-ass
  7. I came to L/P and half the forums are gone it seems...? Is the board experiencing problems or something right now? EDIT: Nevermind, forums are fine now.
  8. HOLY $%@!! Why, WHY, WHY does everytime I leave this forum for a day or so and BOOM! a cool thread comes on! I am here everyday and nothing, then I leave for a day and a good thread starts! I actually never heard of that stereotype of Italians, Italians to me I always associated as people who like pasta :lol2: Romandad, good story though, wouldn't wanted to have messed with your grandfather! He sounds like that guy in "The Departed" who was the right-hand man of Jack Nicholson, the guy who when the car catches fire in the end, he says, "fcuk it," and shoots himself.
  9. Just wondering, but by that do you mean having 1001 crank horsepower, it decreases to 900-something wheel horsepower, whereas the Viper had 1,100 wheel HP, so it was able to accelerate faster?
  10. Remember that post about that one guy at another forum, he had a car design to beat the Veyron, was like 24 cylinders or something, six turbochargers, etc...despite all those years of research and millions spent to design and engineer the Veyron, he figures by just slapping on some extra displacement and turbochargers and he had a Veyron beater :lol2: :lol2: If you want to go over 250 mph, IMO get a plane or helicopter.
  11. If Social Security was abolished, they wouldn't just throw everyone dependent on it off the system. They would gradually reduce who qualified for it, to work people off of the system.
  12. How is income tax voluntary if they can take everything you have if you don't pay? Man I hope they can someday enact that Fairtax idea and abolish the IRS once and for all. Social Security is a "contribution" on your part as well, but try not paying that!
  13. I know the Murcis have the vertical doors, and I can tell a Murci from a Gallardo easily if I see the whole car, the front of the cars though, I can still get a little confused.
  14. That's a Murci isn't it (the Murci's only have the scissor doors don't they?). Also, Allan, you must have one hell of a wife to let you take and view such pictures!! Heck, I don't think most men's girlfriends would let them do that. To the model, good luck!
  15. Yeah, I fell in love with that Phantom, at least the exterior, at first site. Interior has aspects I like and aspects I don't like. I like the standard Phantoms as well.
  16. RR Phantom is awesome, congrats
  17. Yeah, just drive whichever you like, if you are chosing between the Cadillac and the Mercedes and the Lexus, go test drive them all and decide which you want. Personally, I like the look of the Cadillac better, albeit the interior is lacking. One thing I am wondering is, on the Cadillac website, the interior pictures of the "XLR Roadster" have a lot more wood trim than the interior pictures of the "XLR-V." Why is this, when the XLR-V is the more costly car? Did they cut out the wood trim to make up for the cost of the performance enhancement? Also, yeah, different cars seem feminine to different people. The Mercedes looks plenty fine to me, not masculine or feminine, just "European," you know, smooth, sultry, elegant. The Cadillac looks American, as in edgy, bold, brash, etc....which I love. Lexus, it depends, they seem to have more the European look though, though the SC does look like something a woman would drive, IMO. Now for some reason, and I know some guys will want to murder me for this, but to me almost (note almost) all BMWs are very feminine cars. I don't know why, just I always associate women driving BMWs. Obviously that's silly, just how my mind is fixed for some reason. Different strokes for different folks
  18. I love Cadillacs, the interiors need some updating, but otherwise the exteriors and engines I love.
  19. How do these Earth-search programs work? I mean, do you have to "ask" the satellite to move over your home to take a picture?
  20. Jesus Christ! Well it's official, I am going to start working 24/7 to become wealthy, I am salivating, I want one of these big homes!! MAJOR PROPS to you young guys in your thirties with these huge-ass homes!! And multiple homes for some of you too! Awesome thread!
  21. I got the exact same problem, it won't let me post there.
  22. The site must still have bugs. On a side note to the mods, I just now noticed the "Got a Question or Complaint for the Moderator?" section, so I guess this should be moved to there.
  23. You are right, if there are loads of people with this problem it would be better to just wait it out, I wasn't thinking of that. I just was bugged b/c I want to post something there that I thought was helpful.
  24. Well you need a minimum of 150 posts to post in there with the filter on; when the posts were lost, the filter was lost as well, but I think now the filter is back up.
