SECRET SERVICE

How long is the training for SS?

To qualify becoming special agent you must be a U.S. citizen and be less than 37 years of age when appointed. Applicants should have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or three years of work experience in the criminal investigations or law enforcement fields that required knowledge and application of laws relating to criminal violations.

SECRET SERVICE training is 6 months divided between Georgia and Washington, D.C.

* firearms,

* criminal law

* police procedures

* police-community relations

* laws of arrest

* search and seizure

* international treaties and protocol

* physical fitness,

* psychology

* first aid

* physical defense techniques

* diplomatic immunity

* On-the-job training

* advanced in-service training

Thank you for the answer! I'm surprised the training is only 6 months, but then again, you already have 3 years of experience. How long does it take before someone is assigned to the President directly?

THAT would take a while... if ever. There are more than 3000 Secret Service agents, only the best will be picked and that will only happend after some years experience.

SECRET SERVICE

Recently President Obama visited Denmark for the first time. And that visit costed a fortune.

Security was tight as a result of an outstanding cooperation between the Danish PET and the SECRET SERVICE.

The American President brouhgt a fleet of vehicles including "The beast" a Cadillac Presidential Limousine (more about that one in another post soon)

Do they ship all those cars to each location or does every embassy have the cars with them already?

They ship every car to the location before a visit. For the president to travel anywhere it is quite a task. There was a special on Nat Geo awhile back about it.

Travel Security

UPDATED 15.11.09

By Celebrity VIP Protection Specialist Colonel U.D, MONACO BODYGUARDS™ - GLOBAL SECURITY & NINTELLIGENCE SERVICE™.

As travellers seek to beat the Winter blues with travel near and far, personal safety/security experts warn that they may be headed into dangerous territory if they do not remain alert and cautious.

Cononel U.D, a security specialist with government background and CEO of MONACO BODYGUARDS™ - a global security contractor, has developed a list of PERSONAL SAFETY TIPS FOR TRAVELLERS™ that will help them to keep their guards up and minimize risks.

PERSONAL SAFETY TIPS FOR TRAVELLERS™ - THE LIST

1. CLICK AND POINT. Before traveling abroad, search for potential dangers for each country with the State Department. Their official Web sites state applicable warnings. All local embassies will provide you with information about the security of the country you will visit. Before you travel write down useful information before you go like the local embassy phone number and address, local hospital and emergency numbers.

2. LUGGAGE. Mark your suitcases so that it is easier to find them among the others and remember to put a note with your, name, phone and e-mail adress inside. That makes it a lot easier to identify and there are a bigger chance to get it back.

3. HANDLUGGAGE. Important documents, jewellery, PC, and traveldocuments should always be packed in your handluggage together with extra underwear and toiletries. That your luggage ends up in the wrong destinations do happen from time to time.

4. PASSPORT AND CREDITCARDS. Make a copy of your passports main sides, flightticket, visa and your creditcards and bring it in your handluggage. Do also send a copy to your e-mail adress, then you will always have a copy available if something should happen.

5.TICKETS. Even if you travel "ticketless", don't listen to them. Print out all and bring it with you in case a problem should occur. This will proove that you have bought and paid the ticket.

6. IN THE PLANE. For the best chance of getting out alive from a burning aircraft, people should choose an aisle seat near the front within five rows of an emergency exit.

7. LISTEN TO YOUR INSTINCTS. If it feels wrong or dangerous, it probably is. Be aware of what happens around you use COMMEN SENCE.

8. TRY TO BLEND IN. Try dressing like the locals. Familiarize yourself with local customs and even body languages, example: in some countries they will find it very offensive if you talk to them while you wear sunglasses.

9. LEAVE THE “BLING BLING” AT HOME. Travel with little more than what you are going to wear. Don’t bring expensive watches and jewelry you may now need, don’t display large amounts of cash anywhere in public.

10. KNOW WHERE YOU’RE SLEEPING. Use recommended lodgings or familiar chains. Search the neighborhood to make sure it is safe. If traveling abroad, check with the American consulate for advice. And book through your local hotel chain.

11. KEEP THE ROOM SERVICE UNDER CONTROL. Put the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door for the duration of your stay. For additional precaution, leave your TV on whenever you leave the room. If you require fresh towels or toiletries, order up to the room while you are there. Keep in mind that most housecleaning happens until approximately 3 PM. IF you want your room cleaned, remove ALL items of value. DO NOT tempt the house cleaning.

12. BUY A WIRELESS TRAVEL ALARM. Many people get robbed when they sleep in their hotel, and another good advice is to block the door with a chair on the inside.

13. WAKE UP ON TIME. The hotel watch is not always to be trusted. Bring your own travel watch, so you are sure to wake up on time. You don't want to be late for a important business meeting because the receptionist forgot to wake you up.

14. DAY & NIGHT. Familiarize yourself with the area you’re staying during daylight hours and never venture off alone at night if you don’t have to. If you do go out and will not be back until after dark, bring numbers for local cab companies with you, if possible find one good cab driver and get his number and try to only use him, tip well and you may find cab drivers very friendly and helpful with local information and try to travel in groups of 2 or more to and from hotel, restaurant ect.

15. VARY YOUR DAILY ROUTE so that potential attackers can’t predict when you’ll be in particular places and if possible traveling in a group.

16. MEMORIZING important local phrases.

17. NEVER LEAVE KIDS UNATTENDED. Always keep your kids in sight when traveling but also be aware that in many countries the local customs are a lot more lax when it comes to strangers socializing with your kids.

18. BRING AN OLD WALLET with you put some old credit cards in it and some cash money, if ever held up hand it over and keep your real wallet safe, use hotel safes with larger hotels or even rent a bank box for a longer stay. Always keep your passport, (keep a photocopy of it with you) tickets, VISA and traveler’s checks safe.

19. CASH IS "KING". Bring cash with you, both larger notes but also a lot of smaller notes in the local countrys currency. More and more people get cheated when using their cards. And remember that paying a 10-20 EURO taxi trip with a 100 EURO note could turn out to be problematic.

20. DON'T ACCEPT FOOD OR DRINKS FROM STRANGERS. Anywhere! If accepting drinks insist you order directly from the bartender or waiter. And avoiding alcohol intake, which, no surprise, tends to make people more vulnerable to attack.

21. LEARN BASIC FIRST AIDS. The red cross hold courses, and always bring a basic first aide kit both when traveling and in your car and at home.

22. HIRE A GUIDE, DRIVER OR A MONACO BODYGUARD*. If you are traveling abroad, or even in an unfamiliar city, hire someone who knows there way around. If you look lost, you’re an easy target. If you insist on driving yourself and you get lost, ask directions at a store or another place of business – not a stranger on the street. Always carry cash with you because in some countries, it is expected that you “tip” authorities should you be stopped, or encounter problems with local authorities. Remember: You are less likely to be stopped if you have a native driver you can trust, get referrals. But if you are travelling to a conflict zone, hire a MONACO BODYGUARD™.

* During the 70’s and early 80’s our services were mainly in demand by Heads of State and members of the government, but since the late 90’s we have seen an increasing number of private people seeking our expertise. From pop stars to business directors, decision makers and wealthy entrepreneurs. From tourists, insecure in a foreign country, to husbands and fathers seeking protection for their wives and children on shopping trips. Differing types of requirements, but all valid. Security is part of realistic planning strategies for any individual, government department or company in modern society. A bodyguards offers the almost perfect answer to potential crime such as hijacking, robberies and random street violence.

If you have any kind of questions regarding travel security, feel free to ask.

SECRET SERVICE

Cadillac Presidential Limousine

* It goes under the name Cadillac One, but is also known as The Beast - Beast - because of their appearance and are made by a company called Limousine Inc.

* The U.S. president's limousine fleet consists of aprox. 27 identical cars ( this is unofficially as it is of my personal knowledge) - The Cadillac Presidential Limousine, a new and improved version of President Bush `DTS Presidential Limousine from 2004.

* The custom-built Cadillac is equipped with night vision cameras, pump shotguns, tear gas guns, reinforcing steel plates in the doors (20 cm thick), special windows (13 cm thick), reinforced fuel tank and their own oxygen tanks - if the car would be exposed to a chemical attack.

* It is not possible to open some windows, with the exception of the driver - that can be opened 7.5 cm. The tires - reinforced with Kevlar - works just as well if they are fired upon. The bottom of the car consists of a 13 cm thick steel plate. It weighs five tons. The 6.5-liter diesel engine does not limo to a race car. It has a top speed of 96 km / h and goes from zero to 96 in 15 seconds. The car containing the bags with the president's blood type (AB), should it become necessary, with a rapid blood transfusion.

* In Obama's immediate vicinity are the ones with a medical team of six people - surgeon, anesthetist, specialist nurses and other health professionals. Inside the car has the feeling of being in a cocoon. Everyday sounds have disappeared, and they are totally isolated in their sheltered existence.

* Yesterday's president limousines was designed to bring the president to safety after an attack. The new limousine can withstand a prolonged attack - an attack that is far more powerful than what you can achieve with any handweapon. The car is in practice a rolling bunker.

You are welcome my friend!

I have not yet read the book, but I will in a while. I guess it is quite accurate. If not, I would be surprised. He has written quite a few books related to the subject before: "The CIA at war", "The BUREAU" - the secret story of FBI and "The Terrorists Watch".

bush came to the armory across from my highschool, it was insane, they lined up a bunch of coach buses along one of the streets next to the armory, no one came in them so i assume they were using it as a barrier to stop anyone trying to drive a car into the armory, then they had snipers all along the roof of my school and more cops along with secret service then you can imagine.

Our high school econ teacher always used to talk about this type of stuff, and I thought it was fascinating. He used to say that on top of the White House are guys in white suits (camouflaged), with Stinger ground to air missiles ready to go at any second, just in case some nut job tried to fly his plane into it. And since then, to me, the story has always underscored the immense job that security for the most powerful man in the world must entail.

But then a while back, there was that guy in a Cessna who crashed on the White House lawn. He didn't get shot down, so I'm wondering if that's true about the air defenses on the roof? Seems like that guy would have had a missile up his arse!
