I need one too, where'd you find it ?

you cannot own or title a euro Jalpa in California. there are plenty of USA spec cars for you to choose from. in Georgia we have no inspections or emissions testing, and they do not require titles on cars older than 1985.

happy hunting.

premium gas will be over $4 a gallon here by summer, and given the doomsday predictions of the economy, collector car prices are going to tank ,just as they did before. just as the real estate market corrected itself, there will be a car market correction that will effect low and mid range values cars.

the upper level cars and the people that can buy them are not affected by these changes in the market.

best bet is to wait a few months and see what the prices are.

i am in no rush, but have cash in hand if the right EURO car comes along.

i think there is a red USA spec Jalpa in Florida on one of the cars sites if you are looking. i will not buy another one with sealed airboxes. i fcuking hate those things. :icon_mrgreen:

Why you know someone?

no, but whare was Lurker a couple of months ago before I sold my car?

Before I sold the Jalpa, there was no one.....and I mean no one looking. Through the Ebay auctions, listing with a "broker". The day that I sold it (and for less than I thought I would), another buyer called me and offered a little more.

I guess its all timing. And, I just mistimed the sale.

A little bit of a correction here, in metro atlanta counties there are emission testing of cars up until the vehicle is 25 years or older. As far as car values are concerned I could'nt agree with you more. The times of dipping into the home equity piggy bank are gone, I believe will will see a 15-20% correction downward if not more. Sincerely Vic

you are correct, i am in Savannah, and my statement is correct for where i live, but not the whole state.

thank you.

i think i can find a nice euro car for a good price if i just wait. i have no "emotional" attachment to cars. they come and go.

yes i was offered a car. car had some issues, which i was made aware of up front. owner has been super cool to deal with. but its been 2 months and i dont want to wait any longer for the car to finally run and drive, if there is another euro car out there.

also, with the down turn in the economy, i feel i "may" be able to get one for a good price.

there are very few euro jalpas around, even less are "for sale" so i may be waiting for some time, which is fine.

i feel it will be a buyers market, and i am in no hurry.

I just realized you want to buy in the US......I still hope these links help you in your search.

Thank you for your help. i have no clue what is involved in bringing in a Euro low production car into the USA. Because of this, i am hoping to find a euro spec car in the 48 States. prices seem to be cooling off, so time is on my side with the Recession, and the ever higher price of fuel looming as summer approaches.

thanks!

Michael

No problemo......I am sure that it shouldn't be a problem importing a car into the US especially if it's over 15 years old, probably one of the other members would know, Actually I am looking for a 3.0 Urraco or Jalpa for myself, so if you happen to find either one I would appreciate it if you let me know, especially if the car needs work, that would be ideal.

Mike

i would be glad to help. the only Urraco i know of is / was the green early car that CHELLE has / had. i have not seen her online much, and i do not wish to be a pest . JFRAZAR decided to keep his urraco.

there is a Jarama here for sale, but i am not sure what Brian would take for it.

there is a nice red Jalpa in florida a few hours south of me, but its USA spec, and i hate the sealed airboxes. its been for sale for a few months for $32k i think.

To bring a Euro car to the US with no EPA or DOT headaches, the car has to be 25 yrs old, so no Jalpas qualify. Urracos and Silhouettes would qualify.

You could, of course, import an 82 ore 83 Jalpa. You might even be able to import an 84 model-year if its build sheet reflects it was built in 1983. I'd call DOT prior to shipping, though. EPA restrictions end for cars 21 years or older...

I think the bigger problems would be getting a PPI, filing the appropriate paperwork and shipping the car. If you have a trusted friend or agent overseas it would be no sweat. Otherwise, it may be a little hard to arrive at an appropriate level of trust without getting an ulcer.

Let me know if you decide to ship and have any questions. I've been through this and may be able to help.

For some reason I thought the Jalpa debuted in 1984. You are correct, an '82 or '83 would technically work. The DOT rule is 25 yrs or older or it must meet all the federal safety requirements in place at the time of manufacture (http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/graymarket_RI_list12262007.pdf). As you stated, EPA is 21 yrs.

I looked into importing cars a couple times. I have some info if you are interested. I found a very cool certified importer in my area. There are loop holes that a savey and freindly importer can guid you through.
