Every GTR I have seen on Ebay is still in the high 60's minimum. There are a TON of them listed. But the prices dont seem to be dropping too fast.

Are you meaning the IS250 with the F package, or the IS F? Not entirely sure which you get up there... anyway.

The IS F I've driven only very briefly, but it felt to me like it was trying but couldn't quite manage to be an M3. If you like the style, it's probably worth a test drive, because for a DD the reliability I would expect to be nothing short of fantastic, but while the acceleration is good, it just didn't feel as planted to me as it's competitors - perhaps compromised too much on retaining comfort and luxury at the expense of steering feel & handling.

The IS250 with F Package... is not worth a look if you care about performance I don't feel. I'd say it's very similar to a 320i or 325i, it's a nice, comfortable, easy to drive sedan, decent room, quiet and calm. But it doesn't really have much in the sports deparment in my opinion. It's not quick, it's handling isn't that sharp and responsive, but is a very nice way to get casually from A to B.

I have not owned either car, so I can't comment on any long-term information like reliability, servicing etc, and also be aware I'm one of those people (like many here, I'd expect) who looks at driving a car as an experience, not simply as a means of transport, so my views are more looking at the enjoyment of driving the vehicle, than the comfort of being driven in it.

long over do update

since moving to cali, i no longer need awd. I was looking around for cars out here, once easy to mod since i have the bug bad, and ended up getting a great deal on a 335i, so i took it. I should be picking it up tonight or tm, Once i get it plan on ordering jb3, intakes, full exhaust and some vorstiner wheels, Though not much car porn compared to what is on this forum i'll put up some pics when i get it and once i mod it out.

Anyone else with bmw insight on something else i could look into.

edit: oh and its 6 sp with sport package

Congrats on the pickup!

Isn't it nice to ditch the need for AWD? :)

Congrats.

Had a 335i and I loved it, actually might be getting another one. Look into a turbo flash and upgrade from Vishnu or Dinan. That thing will easily put out 420-480hp and blow away the new M3s out there. PLUS don't let the soccer moms fool you they don't know what they're driving. The 335i handles as well as the M3, a lot of components in the car are identical. I've had both and even the guys at the BMW dealer say the same (they are the same car virtually, minus the flared fenders of the M and 6cylTTvs 8NA).

Have driven the IS-F. But when I took it for the drive, the road was really wet so didn't try much after spinning the tyres up a rather steep slope in very first few minutes! Engine revse sounded great inside the car.

It feels right and is comfy. The exhaust tips resemble the Ferrari califonia though. :eusa_think: On par with the M3 if not better due to design and comfort. Believe the IS-F has more Torque than the M3. Definately a ride you should check out!

Other cars I think you should check out will be the Audi S series, Lexus LS series, Maserati GT (Think they are getting cheaper). I kept out the BMs' cause the current models are just bland in terms of design.

Save for badge snobbery, I think you're right....from all accounts the 335 is a better buy than the current M3, especially for DD duty.

However, for driving purity I can't imagine it's better than the E46 M3.

do you have any experience/knowledge on the juicebox3 by burger tuning, over at bimmerforums i get the impression thats the one they recommend most.

Vishnu claims to make much more power and is cheaper, but dinan does come with a warranty which does make me feel a little better

I am currently in the market for a VERY similar car. If you don't mind me asking, what year was it, and what the final price you paid for it....Did you go dealer, or did you go private party.

Congrats on the 335! The car is a blast!

I have a 335 vert with a very mild tune (adds about 40 hp/50tq) and it's quick enough for my purposes. Have a lot of other mods on it, too (M3 suspension parts, BBK, coilovers, exhaust, wheels, etc).

JB3 seems to be the most popular tune....have plenty of friends with 335s and a JB3-tuned 335 with intake/exhaust/intercooler is pretty damn fast...smooth delivery of power, too.

While the car does handle well with the sport package, it does not handle as well as a stock M3...to get E92 M3-like handling, would recommend you put in the M3 suspension parts (front/rear sways, bushings, control arms, wishbones, guide rods, etc) and some coilovers....makes a HUGE difference. And to finish it off, you can install an LSD and BBK if you want to go all out.

btw, if you're looking for the closest equivalent of L-power for the E9xx cars, the site with the best info is e90post.com

Post up some pics when you get a chance!

first of all thank you so much guys for all the input

Start with locking differential, bigger cooler and software and so on...

My friend has similar car to you, he has now about 400hp.

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/

i actually just stumbled upon n54tech last night it seems like it had a very large deal of info i was lookin for, more so then bimmerforums at least.

A locking dif would be a great thing ill have to look into it see how complicated it is.

thank you i'll go check out e90post later.

I never even thought about putting on m3 parts i was mainly looking into dinan suspension parts. but i like the idea of actual m3 parts better, did you use the m3 coilovers or aftermarket?

I plan on taking the car on one of my favorite driving roads later in the week, i'll try to remember to snap some pictures then

The OEM M3 parts are bolt-on parts and fit the 335 easily. One of the best mods you can do on the car.

Have aftermarket KW V3 coilovers...love 'em. Car actually rides as comfortable as stock, but with better handling.

thanks, how did you go about ordering them and getting them installed if you dont mind me asking

To get the M3 parts, you can either get them via HP Autowerks or Tischer BMW....they sell them as a package. For installation, I had a local BMW performance/race shop do the install...the trickiest part is that the rear subframe has to be lowered to install the rear sway bar. You want a shop who is used to working with and modifying modern BMWs.

You will need a full alignment with corner balancing afterwards, too.

so took the car on a very aggressive drive through shoreline highway 1, and sports package or not the car needs to be upgraded. So def gonna get the m3 suspension parts and look into coilovers.

Also decided i'm gonna get a vishnu tune, after research it seems to be the best for what i want, and i heard jb3 isn't good for manual trans for whatever reason.

oh and a little story, along the drive back a deer came sprinting across the road, i slammed on the brakes, and the deer jumped, HIGH, so high infact he just skimmed the top of my car all he left was hair, the person behind me said the deer did a couple cartwheels in the air though. Thank god my car didn't get dented and the deer ran away unhurt probably just very shocked
