  • 2 months later...

I got an email regarding this this morning. Why do they model these cars in ugly ass maroon.

"

Dear Assman,

It’s been quite a year for McLaren Automotive. Just 12 months ago, the first 12C high performance sports car was sold and McLaren opened its very first retailer showroom with Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton at One Hyde Park, London.

Since then, sales of the 12C have topped 1,000 and McLaren has expanded its retailer network into 21 markets around the world.

But this is only the start of the McLaren story. Today, we are excited to share with you the announcement of our second model, one that will stir the soul more than any McLaren sports car yet: the 625PS, twin-turbo V8-engined, open roofed 12C Spider.

The 12C Spider is based on the same super stiff carbon fibre MonoCell chassis as its hardtop sibling and so will be just as dynamic to drive. But removing the roof will dial up the sensations experienced, the emotions felt and the noise heard. Especially at the speeds the 12C Spider will be capable of. And true to McLaren’s ethos of offering high performance without compromise, the 12C Spider will be more usable than any car this exciting has a right to be.

One man used to excitement behind the wheel is Jenson Button. We spoke to him at last weekend’s European Grand Prix about what speed means to him, the connection he feels with the machine he drives and about what he senses when driving a 300 km/h open top car. But is he talking about his MP4-27 Formula 1 car or the 12C Spider? Click here to find out.

More details on this truly beautiful sports car will be released soon, and we will be in touch to let you know about these shortly. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the preview.

Kind Regards,

Just got back from factory training on the spider. What an awesome car! Looks really good both with the top up and top down. Some cool new options & colors. AND it will still run blistering fast lap times at your favorite track! Absolutely NO chassis flex, more power, and very little weight was added. If you are interested in getting your hands on one, call you local dealer for details. These convertibles will go quick!

Personally the vert makes it look a lot more exotic then the coupe. Saw a white coupe a couple weeks ago and it did nothing for me style wise. Almost more boring in person.... The vert looks sick.

I like the way this looks much more than the coupe. I like the red show color too.

At first glance I like the way this looks better than the 458 spider.

The use of red cars is because apparently it sells well in Asian markets.

Actually yellow is good color too for asians.... means gold, money, or wealth. :) The spider is definitely a looker. With the ability to switch characteristics of the car, this just completes it.
