How much to pay for a TWIN TURBO GALLARDO?

Guys, calm thy selves. I made the comment in jest, because the query made it sound like there were only two tuners doing Gallardos.

And I never pointed a finger at anyone. Strange, though, how defensive the replies became. No need for all that, right?

I don't think anyone was really getting defensive, just stating the facts to educate the uneducated.. :icon_mrgreen:

I am looking forward to seeing how your car performs though as it is making similar power to mine.

Which races have you guys attended? Maybe you didnt know your car was at TI? Yellow DP TT SL with a huge wing? I saw it driving around in the parking lot, just not racing. There are pictures out there. Enjoy your car, be safe.

I said *I* didn't attend TI. Taylor may have brought it out to showcase the kit. I've offered to let him use the car in that regard. But I don't know if it was there or not. If you didn't see it run it's because I wasn't there to drive it.

I've only had the car a short while. Attended the COTA event but the car was just delivered and turbos were still being broken in so I took it easy. Did a nice job reeling in LP640's and MP4's without having to get too deep into it. Fantastic car.

Intended to run at MSR during the Festival weekend but we smacked that road debris (post in the other forums about this) en route to the track. If all is going well in the shipping world my replacement Renown bumper is arriving at DP today! Woohoo!

You also said "you must have seen another car".

Again, your car looked nice riding around in the parking lot. The wing looks nice in person. I never heard of turbos having to be broke in. What kind of turbos have to be broke in? Weird.

I think these posters can just read between the lines, no?

You never know man. Some people think there are only two Lambo tuners out there, so you can't make too many assumptions! :P

Its obvious that UGR has worked their ass off to get where they are at... nobody is arguing with that I guess...UGR have built the most Lambos period... and UGR does have the BEST resale value as stated in my first post. Which is also why they bring more $ for mods compared to their competitors.

In order for Dallas Performance to compete, In my opinion... charging the same price as UGR for a Turbo Kit is going to be very difficult....I believe they have have to discount their Turbo Kits initially to build more Gallardos and get their name out there, have more of their customers go drive these cars, write reviews, make videos, take it to TX2K, the drag strip etc.

I just dont feel comfortable personally spending $60-70k+ w/ a tuner who has built 10+ cars compared to UGR who has built 100+ for the same price.

Even if they show VBOX numbers and do a 8 second pass on a drag strp.. reputation is key IMO...

Yes, because I didn't know Taylor had brought it. There is another big-winged yellow G running around Texas. But glad to hear it made an appearance. It's an incredible kit and a good example of the work.

Yes the wing definitely finishes the car. DMC did a great job making that piece. Taylor did a wonderful job installing it too.

You can ask Taylor about the specifics of the turbos. I just enjoy them. :)

Yes, because I didn't know Taylor had brought it.

Wait, your tuner just drives your car around randomly to an event without your approval / knowledge? Surely not something I would be OK with. Actually, I'd be pissed.

But in any event, IMO, driving a car to a big racing event like TI with top dog tuners just to showcase a turbo kit that looks replicated off of another tuner seems a little odd to me.

Well put and it will be interesting to see these DP cars competing! Funny though, if there has been 10 or so built why have they not been out already? Ummmm

Ok...not sure if this is my friend Kisco I speak to on other forums or a differnet one. If it is, I'm not sure where this is all coming from?

But to address you concern, I mentioned above that I offered to Taylor to show off the car, use it to demo the kit, etc, while he has it. So I'm unclear where your comments are coming from. Why would I be pissed? I'm glad he was able to bring it out

Now I just have to laugh at this thread. Its getting weird.

Smoky--The wing looked good when I saw it at TI. Just so you know Rohan1 has the same wing/trunk on his car. It should help with the heat in the engine bay and traction but it will hurt top end a little bit above 100mph because of the downforce on the wing even in its least aggressive position.

For the mile, I'd take it off completely. I have some VBOX logs from Rohan1's car before he bought it and it definitely slowed it in the very top end.

When I had my first turbo car, I thought the turbos had to be broken in too. My tuner back then took my Honda Civic out and just smoked the tires with the ebrake up and then told me theres nothing to break in, lol.

No thanks, I dont want turbos that you have to break in. Seems like the turbo maker might be in the R&D phase?

Those are my words. And my practices. It was a new setup. Taylor told me to enjoy it. I took it easy. I come from a time when these things needed to be broken in. Maybe they don't anymore. Better safe than sorry.

Gonna take a break from this thread and go watch some videos of a ratty porn star trying to reach for a hundred dollar bill during a Gallardo launch ... Busy day!

Ya the newer stuff I'm guessing prob doesn't need it. But I just have trouble believing it. It's mechanical. It moves. It needs to be broken in. LOL Maybe not anymore. Tough habit to break though. I still change my oil after the first 1000 miles of new car ownership too. Prob don't need to. But I can't help it.

I agree about the wing and the Mile event. At least 0 it out.

You mean Thiago's car? I still haven't had a chance to lay eyes on it yet. Do you know who makes the wing and engine cover for his? Mine is DMC. I'm interested to see how his installs compared to mine. Taylor had to do a bit of custom work to make it right, but it came out perfect. Really love those parts.

Your right Thiago's car. I was there with the old owner and compared the wing brackets to the ones on your car, same molds for the wing and hatch for sure. Probably the same from company overseas if I had to guess. The brackets on both cars looked like they had to be custom made, yours looked pretty strong if I recall.

Yes Taylor put in a LOT of work to do some custom support. But we ended up learning a ton about the DMC kit. Now DMC sends people to Dallas Performance for installs.

I'm not sure who DMC has to make their stuff. Greg Scho, their CEO, told me it is done out of Germany. I watched the shipping logs of the items from material to assembly to delivery and everything was in Germany for about 4 weeks then went through a distribution center out of Honk Kong in about four days. I wanted to make sure they weren't outsourcing and it looks like they are building stuff in-country at least. It looks fantastic though!

You ain't seen shit yet, bud. lol :icon_mrgreen:

While the thread may have been, um, slightly sidetracked, it does go on to emphasize the point why some tuners are better known than others. When factoring reputation, proven performance, visibility, and perception there's a reason one tuners' cars retain more value than others.

Yea, those 1320 guys get a little crazy.

I actually do like most of their stuff. Looking forward to the Streets 2013 DVD. No BS. Just racing. Hopefully the Louisiana Lambo crew will make it out next year. Now we just need to find Rohan a car!!

Smoky, I was just stating that if a tuner, Kevin for example, were to take my car to a show/event without my knowledge and/or approval, I would be upset.

Also, regarding the replication comment, I was merely stating that going to a TI roll racing event to showcase a turbo kit that basically looks just like another tuner (I am not being a dick, I am being honest) is a little meaningless. I can understand if it was a car show or something, but it's not.

I guess going back over my reply I can see how it may have come off as abrasive to you, but that was not my intention.

I sincerely hope you enjoy your car with the best of health and obtain many miles with smiles. :icon_thumleft:

No sweat.

Perhaps Taylor was meeting a client to show off the build? That would be my guess. I said that was fine to do. Taylor asked a hundred times to make sure I was cool with him using the car to demo. So it doesn't surprise me that it has made an appearance somewhere in his neighborhood. I trust Taylor implicitly with my car. He built it!

I see why the opinion is what it is about the kits looking similar, but when you see how things are installed...when you see more than just what is exposed with the engine cover up and parts are laying side by side on a workbench, they couldn't be more different.
