Jump start Diablo...

Hey Guys

Which would be a better way to jump start a Diablo?

1) Jump start of battery in donor car (with Donor car on/off?)

2) Jump start of new battery (take an extra battery with me, and attach with jump start cables to Diablo)

The Diablo CANNOT be 1)trickle charged 2)battery replaced in its current situation... It is parked in a shipping container, and needs to be unloaded...

Won't matter which you jump start it from, a good heavy battery will do the trick, or another car.

But you'll have to get the Dablo out of the container to do that surely? As the battery and jump start terminals are both located at the rear of the car, on drivers side [LHD CAR] You'll need to be able to lift the engine hood too.

Do not jump start a Diablo...unless you want to risk frying both ECU'S at $5000 per.

What are my options? I need to get the car removed from the container before I can access the battery... suggestions?

Put in neutral and roll it out..? :eusa_think:

Wish I could do that... the problem is the container is at the port, and the car needs to be removed, started, driven to inspection, inspected, started again, sent by recovery ...

The port will not allow me to remove tire/replace battery on site - are the ECU's really that sensitive?

Surely that won't happen? Im sure the reason why they put easy access terminals in the engine bay is for just that purpose. I jumped started my own with no issues.

It also shows in this pic, a pair of jumper cables attached in such a way.

Not saying you could be right, just find that a bit extreme, just adds to the annoyance of accessing the battery when needed.

I run my trickle charge at the engine any terminal too, which works perfect!

No reason to try and be smug about it all, doesn't help anyone with that type of attitude. Its a learnng curve for some of us, and Ill certainly take the info and link you provided on board.

The pic I added is from a Diablo hand book too.

My mechanic doesn't not recommend jumping the Diablo, either. It can and has disrupt the electricals. But I guess if you don't have any other choice, then you can use those remote terminal posts in the engine bay. Good luck and hope you can get her started! Been there before and it's no fun.

There has to be some kind of portable charger system. What about just using a small generator and a trickle charger? It might be worth the cost of buying those as opposed to taking the chance to jump the car. What happens if you attempt to jump the car and it fries something? You would still be stuck with a car in a container.

Not trying to be smug about anything....just trying to prevent a huge mistake.

My owners manual clearly ststes not to jump start.

Cheers!

Wow! That's really strict policy the port authority has!

I had a look at my own battery today as I think I'll upgrade to a higer CA. With a couple of small ramps and a trolly jack, getting access to the battery can be done really quickly, this was my first time and I was able to do it in around 10mins.

Could take some photos to show you if needed?

A picture is always worth a thousand words....

Thanks to everyone for their input... I will be at the port in a little over 12 hours to figure this out... and will keep you posted

If you can persuade the port authorities to allow you to change the battery, get yourself a low level trolly jack, [ramps will be no use to you as your car won't start] and take some tools, its not too difficult to change the battery at all.

I hear what your saying and yes, the consequences can be catastrophic, with that said though, I've jumped my diablos and murcies several times with no adverse consequences.

Nice battery in that link! I need something like that, the CA on my battery is much less.

There are a number of threads on LP that discuss battery options. I think the option most people recommend is the Interstate MT-34, that is what is in my 6.0

Thanks for the info, although not sure we have that brand here in Ireland, will be doing so battery shopping tomorrow.

I have jump started hundreds of Diablos/Murc I have not had a issue with any of the ECUs that said if done wrong or very unlucky any thing can happen.

No expert or anything close to that at all here but based on all the responses, it seems like the safest and most probable way is to buy a brand new battery that you intend to put into the car, take it there and (it being an isolated/stand-alone battery) connect it to the terminal in the engine bay and the chassis respectively and then try starting the car.

:iamwithstupid:

With that said though, one of the scariest things I had ever seen is a dead battery that was being jumped blow up. It happened to me and one of my guys while in the engine room of one of my boats. The sound was deafening and all that was left of the large 8D battery was literally just the very bottom of the battery.

I spoke with a very well known Lambo service specialist in the UK today, and he said its fine to jump start Lambos at the easy access terminals in the engine bay, only thing he did say that he wouldn't use, is the high capacity mains voltage boosters, the ones on wheels.

I always use a jump box I have used a new battery with cables and a few times with cables and a different car.
