carbs tuning video

Well with that massive and imprecise throttle linkage (6 carbs)...you have wear problems as well. I set-up a countach just for kicks when it was 9 years old with maybe 10K miles on the odo. All the carbs drew the same...and guess what 200 miles later (2) were out because of linkage wear. So...again I would make sure that all the linkage elements, bell cranks etc. were like "new"

I don't just travel at low speed, but Albert is completely right. I get my carbs tuned at least once a year by Roberto Grimaldi at Grimaldi Engineering. It makes a big difference to the enjoyment of the car when the carbs are just right, especially when driving in traffic. Grimaldi also tunes them with just a screwdriver and his ears.

Correct: that's the first step to do. Then you can tune the carbs, but just when you are sure the likages are perfect.

1) rebuild the carbs

2) linkage service

3) carbs tuning

4) bye-bye, K-Jetronic... :)

Ciao.

Six double barrel carbs well tuned performing together are a very pleasant and exciting music, arent't they?

Congrats for your black Anniversary monster.

ciao

  • 1 month later...

Well maybe it's time i have mine done or learn how... it's been 6 years and still no issues with them so twice a year sounds nuts.

I know a guy who bought a DD brand new and has yet done a single carb adjustment. Still runs the same as when he bought it

He probably doesn't have a mechanic that does a big mess with carbs like mine did... :icon_mrgreen:

Have you guys seen one of these yet? a neighbor used it on his Jalpa to tune carbs and said it worked very well. He did it himself!

What are carbs? Those things which aren't good in your diet if you are trying to lose weight??

:icon_mrgreen:

Wrong. They are those things that makes a 30 years old car sounds better than the one you will have next year (maybe)...

huh... Anyway, this

Ken the hand held synchometers are easy to use on the 44DCNF downdraft carbureted Countachs.

However when it comes to using them on the 45DCOE side draft carbureted Countachs they are almost impossible to use.

Just changing the air filters in a side draft Countach is a major pain in the ass as you need to remove the air horns from all the carburetors in order to remove the filters.

Sincerely Vic

I saw Salvioli using a thing like that when my engine was started on the dyno after the rebuild without the airfilters and the airbox covers. He told me it was "an american made device" that simplified a lot the carbs tuning. But then i had to go to the specialist to tune better them...

I do not know how you could use it with the DCOE with the airbox on and even with the DCNF you should tune them without the airbox (i suppose) so maybe you would have to tune them again with the airbox on and without that device.

Correct?

ciao

Hello Vic my friend... i hope you and your red monster are both well. The device i am holding there belongs to a neighbor

of mine with a Jalpa so all that makes sense now. He said it was Very easy to use and helped his car a lot i just didn't think of sidedraft vs. downdraft access. Maybe I should pick one up.

Hey Ken,

Things are getting better here as I am almost caught up on home improvement / renovation projects.

I feel like a worn out, heavy set, broke version of Bob Vila. LOL

As far as the synchrometers go they are inexpensive around $40.00 dollars.

I have one however I have never used it as I have not had the time to disassemble the entire air cleaner assembly to access the carbs.

Sincerely Vic
