I want to learn how to create apps/webpages

I know we have some real and serious website/app inventors/creators here.

 

I am a total novice on this matter, I mostly surf this Place, some porn and google for kebabpics.

 

But I feel like I have so much freetime at work I need to use it and start Learning more shit.

 

Can someone Point me in the right direction on how to approach this?

I searched through the two websites you posted (quickly) and I'm probably dumb but I can't figure out exactly what it is?

Some sort of group/membership is all that I can see that can be purchased?

 

What exactly are they? Some sort of "membership for support" thing? I need to learn the basics, from the ground up.

 

Anyone dare to estimate what time it would take, for a normal guy, to master the basic skills of creating a not so advanced app?

Code Academy will start you off with the basic skills you are looking for and is free. Just sign up and try it out. I think jumping straight into apps without some basic knowledge might be a little harder than you think.

 

 

Regarding how long you think it will take... that depends on you and what you put in. But think of it as learning a new language and your goal is to become fluent. Except in this case to get to apps. There maybe a few languages to learn.

Well that was a crappy response...

For iPhone get objective c 2.0 and beginning iPhone books by apress. Also the big nerd ranch book is good. It might be too hard jumping right into those with no programming experience though.

For my app I hired someone to develop for me. Learning to code will give you more advantage because you are ultimately in control, however it all depends if you have the time to do so. Because the learning curve is huge and it will take patience to get it right.

Our very own Webster (David) has actually created Ruby on rails, which is very useful for programming. It's the language in the lower right of your image. Maybe he can chime in here on how to get started

I've always held code and programming at arm's length, avoiding it at all costs. It's one of those things like learning a new language that I've always wanted to do, but just haven't really dedicated myself to it.

I would do Ruby (or Python), along with Javascript and HTML/CSS. That should give you everything you need for doing dynamic webpages/API backends and teach you most of the basics that you can build on for learning other languages. Once you understand the fundamentals of how programming works learning new languages after that is really just memorizing syntax and built in methods. If you plan on doing mobile the next step after that would be to learn Objective-C for iOS and Java for Android, or you could learn C# and use a cross platform framework such as Xamarin.

I would do Ruby (or Python), along with Javascript and HTML/CSS. Objective-C for iOS and Java for Android.

 

 

Depending on where your interest lies:

 

Creating websites - HTML/CSS (must have for the front end) and Ruby or PHP (backend)

Mobile Applications - iOS = Objective C, Android = Java

 

With the mobile options, if you don't have any preferences with what kind of device you want to develop for... Objective C isn't really used outside of Apple products, while Java has a wider array of applications outside of the mobile space.

I assume you're talking about phone apps? like appstore type stuff and not web applications?

 

Personally, I'd say start with webpages and use HTML/CSS like stuff...that will give you an understanding on how things work at the most basic level. From there I'd probably suggest Javascript as you can tack it on to the existing HTML. I've never actually looked through or used Ruby, but I'd probably add that as well as it says it's for beginners and it seems someone on here has some extended knowledge on it (Webster and Ruby on Rails I think....sorry Webster, I don't honestly know what you did with it, but your name keeps appearing here so I figured I'd add it in with my Ruby statement)

While on the subject, is there a really killer way around learning programming for web design if my intention is creating a business website?

I was gonna say, sounds like you want a hobby. If $ isn't the goal, then just come up with a list of hobbies you can do at the office. Write poems, put a ship in a bottle..etc

Nothing yet, it only a hobby right now, just hired a Indian company last week to develop a financial management app for ios and andriod.
