Countach Prices

Are there any original Countach owners here? I mean first owners of a brand new any year Countach. I know it's a bad question to ask but how much did you pay for your Countach when you purchased new and in what year.

The reason for this question is I have been talking with Romandad and was telling him about my deal... I'm the second owner of a 88.5 CT and have documentation that my car sold to the original owner in 3/90 for

$210,000.00 USDollars...Romandad was very surprised at that figure believing List or sticker price was around $120,000.00

Do any second, third, etc. owner Countach owners have documentation showing what the original owner paid and in what year for what year car?

Also for my own interests and others, does anyone have factory list prices asked for each year of Countach production and what premiums were asked for by dealers. What's the most you have ever seen asked for

a Countach and what's the most you've ever heard paid.

FYI: My story, I don't know what asking price was for the original owner, but he paid $210,000.00 for a 1988.5 Countach, Red with Black interior, VIN#ZA9CAO5A6JLA12318 in 3/1990. I paid $85,000.00 in 3/2005 with 9417kl (not miles). I am happy with that deal. When I bought the car it had new tires, new clutch, the A/C was converted to R134 and the car was spotless. The car runs & sounds GREAT,but the A/C sucks, I have gotten the DuraCool setup but haven't had the chance to recharge yet.

Please post your experiences with Countach's.

Really? The A/C in my old 88.5 was good, never had a problem with keeping the car cool until it blew a hose and I tried to be cool and drive the car around miami with no A/C in the summer...

Give you a hint on the AC. 88.5's had good AC as stock. They do not work well at all converted to 134a. Not enough condenser area. Install a new expansion valve, reciever dryer and charge it with r-12 :butthead: , thats what you'll do to buy r-12, bend over, but do all the above and you'll be chillin.

I was very suprised at how good the A/C was in my car, but mine was R-12.

I think some of the later Countach models got wrapped up in the late 80's price boom on italian exotics. I seem to remember the pre-anniversary models having a sticker in the high 120K range, and the anniversary cars stickered at about 145K or so. I also remember seeing Autoweek ads for Countaches priced from the 165K range to well over 200K for a new anniversary model. In fact, I had a client back then who purchased a new Anniversary car for about 185K from a dealer, drove it about four months and flipped it for well into the low 200's. I was not privy to the exact figure. Then the boom exploded, and all the cars fell back to reality. Thank goodness, or I would never have gotten one.

Mike, how much can I get for 1 pound cans of R12? Back when the EPA went nuts I bought approx. 24 cans just for cars I had then just in case. I still got them...any buyers for the going rate?

I purchased my car a White/Tan 88 directly from the original California owner. He purchased the car from the dealer/broker that had tried to federalize the Porsche 959 years ago. I am pretty sure this dealer in California, today deals in the 959 to some degree.

The owner paid 120K for the car brand new. Vin #12242

I have no idea how much the 1st owner paid for the 1989 :vom: Anniv

The A/C on the Anniv :vom: car, is absolutely superb in comparison to the 88.

Ralph, what gives with the :vom:? Do you have to convince yourself and us that you should sell the anniv :vom: ?

Also, R-12 isn't as scarce as you think. I refuse to convert some of my older cars to 134A and my mechanic doesn't seem to have a hard time at all finding R-12. And yes smart asses, I know its R-12 because I stick around when theyre charging the cars.

I did have a friend though that made a ton of money smuggling freon in his 48' sportfisherman from the bahamas.

I do not like the look of the anniv carz. Chrysler tried to screw up a piece of art.

I love the color combo, mileage, and condition of my car. I was just a kid in a toy store. I just could not say no.

I agree, but I think the perfect countach was your last white one. No BS TR wanna be skirts (sorry romandad) no stupid looking air intakes, etc...

Where did your car end up?

Andyc,

Last I saw, a 1lb can of R-12 was about $30.

Romandad,

R-12 is still legal to own, buy, sell and use. Companies just can't make any more of it in the USA, or import any. Whatever was made here or imported before the phase out is legal. Same goes for Halon.

You are correct. It is obvious I agree, in perfect view of the little yellow and green man who appears after I mention the Anniv car :vom:

I thought I wanted a fassst car. I stepped up to a SE 30. A superb one with 2,100 km #007. I unfortunately never bonded with that car. I had it one year. I found it quite tame. I decided to go back to the C/T. I could not find a nice early C/T. I loved white and red. The white piping was irresistable. The car was excellent. I got it from M.I., MO.

It is on the L Registry. #12242. White 88. From the post, the new owner loves the car. I believe his last name is Bishop. He has a collection of cars. He lives in Florida. He has restored the car to the original Euro rear configuration. I really miss that car. It was a one owner California car from a collection.

The new one is nice though. I do not like the Chrysler seats, and power windows. I just obtained a set of s/s exhaust headers from Chad. They were made in the UK. I also ordered the Kreisseig exhaust from Mark at SP. The original Euro style front end strip, will replace the ugly US bumper. The strip just came into the US. I also purchased the stip/front trim piece from Chad. Hopefully the car should sound great, and move a little quicker. I may take the rear wing off. My son is all over me to keep the rear wing.

late 80's, early 90's price were incredible hig, i remember a man in italy who paid more than 300.000.000 lire italiane, 150000 euro + evaluation for his QV in 1990.......

i read LP400 prices were as new in the 1975 40000 $ around, but you could pay even 60000 for a special one

Someone above mentioned r-12 was about $30.00 apound which is correct. Shops will charge you double that on a recharge with 12, but interestingly 134a also took a huge jump earlier this year.

Its not illegal to have it, you most of the time need a license to purchase it, but not always. The suppliers claim the supplies are dwindling, probably true. If you have any r-12 I would keep it. Someday you made need it.

Andy or anyone near by

I have r134a, FREEZE 12, and R12 (30 pounder) and 2 expensive machine to put it in. If anyone needs recover, evacuate, recycle, and recharge...let me know. My shop is in Danbury, CT....it'll cost you just for the refrigerant. We can meet up on a Sunday morning.

I have recently recharge mine with the Freeze 12 but I have yet to get it running. If it sucks with the freeze12, Ill recover and use r-12.

I had bought probably 30-40 30lbs for business since it was discontinued...now one left.
