Opinions on Mods.

Hello everyone,

Sorry to throw up another "look at this car" thread, but I am not sure what to do with this car. I have been looking for a 3 pedal Murcielago for several months now and the market hasn't had a ton of options. What I am looking for makes it even harder to find what I want. One of the biggest things on my list was a car as close to stock as possible. I love how some people mod their cars, however for resale and collectability I prefer stock (I know that this is controversial and that people think you aren't a car enthusiast if you worry about how collectable the car is and how much you can sell it for; I am a huge car guy). I don't mind exhaust mods because a V12 symphony is something I will forever love. That brings me to the point of putting this thread up. I really really like this car that popped up the other day. It has service records, low milage, neutral color (I would love something crazy, but this color works really well) and is manual. Being a two owner car is also an added benefit. However, it has been modded a decent bit. Lots of the mods are OEM Lamborghini parts added at Lamborghini Orlando, and then a few others are aftermarket mods. I want to know what you guys think that means for the collectability and future resale of the car. In five years or so am I going to be looking at a less valuable car (due to the mods) or is it going to appeal more because of the upgrades paired with low milage and tranny? The description is really flowery (for lack of a better term), and I am hoping the broker wouldn't be a pain in the ass to deal with. The owner seemly has some of the original OEM parts which I like. Anyway, please let me know what you guys think. Should I pull the trigger on this car, or will the mods effect its value too much and I should walk away?

Thank you,

The wheels, lights and glass lid are stock Lambo parts so I look at them as an upgrade that could be returned to stock if needed (you do need to cut the body to fit LP 640 lights though)

Interior is not stock Lambo but it looks like only the center arm rest and lower dash have been recovered.

My opinion, some may disagree, ditch the lighting in the engine.

From the pictures car looks good and they show a couple of small defects rather than hiding them.

Service etc?

Okay. Thank you for your opinion. :) All that was recovered was exactly as you said, the lower dash and armrest. I like all of the OEM stuff on the car. Is the carbon fiber a problem or not? I know it replaced the plastic around the inside and engine bay? I wouldn't imagine that anyone would want to put the plastic back into the car (a close friend of mine thinks its important to retain the original plastic for collectability). The engine lighting wasn't really my cup of tea, wether I would take it out or not I don't know. It doesn't bother me if it isn't on. I really liked how they showed the defects. I appreciate when people list their cars with the flaws rather than the typical car is mint and has no defects. The car does have service history and a clean title.

I think I'm in love.

If the mods don't do much for you personally, you might want to keep looking, but it looks like most of the additions are reversable or insignificant to resale (the nav/stereo, for example). I'd ask to look at how the engine bay lighting was installed, because that'll be the most divisive modification, and removing it could leave marks.

The car is growing on me every second I look at it. I think that you are right on everything being reversible (I don't see why you would, but nice to have it as an option). The lighting is fine with me. I can't say I would be using it often, but I'm sure there will be times where it is cool. I will definitely have a look at the installation during the PPI though.

All the Carbon parts were made in china. NOT OEM.

Really? He has the receipts from Lamborghini (including the product numbers). What makes you think they are from China?

Lamborghini does not offer the steering column upper and lower piece in carbon.

The steering wheel looks wrong too.

The OEM door sill panels have the name MURCIELAGO molded into the carbon, not stickers.

For one, Lamborghini does not offer the steering column upper and lower piece in carbon.

I didn't notice that but I do like it.

Okay thanks for the heads up man.

I do too. I think this is the right car for me. The exhaust is nuts, I can only imagine what it sounds like.

I agree this one looks really amazing, I would replace the door sills with the original carbon fiber units with the Murciélago script molded into them and get the seats upholstered in alcantara too with the Q-Citura stitching to match the underside of the dash ... I really like that in fact.

I agree with what you are saying. The seats matching the dash would be epic, however, I would keep the car as it sits. I think it looks really good and I prefer to have the seats and leather that came from the factory on it. That being said the car would have a good home with me! No crazy economy rapper rims and parts being added.

Good looking car with tasteful mods.

How much is he asking?

The only part I am not sure on is the color. Some people have commented that it is boring and will not be good when it comes to resale. I disagree with them, but am curious what others think about it.

As far as what he is asking, I think it is fair. Out of respect to the owner (he opted not to post the price) I don't feel comfortable posting it online. If you call I'm sure he will have no problem telling you. However, you are very knowledgeable on the Murcielago; what do you think a fair price would be?

the general rule is never pay more for a modified car. When it comes time to sell you're looking for that one buyer who has the same taste as you do. I've modified my 6.0, if it ever comes time to sell I'd put everything back to stock first.

Grigio Antares is a great paint, lots of metal flake. But I agree, its not what most Lambo buyers are looking for.

Right. It always stinks when you are the guy who modded the car. Parting out (like you mentioned) is the only was to recuperate some money. I felt a fair value for the car with all things considered is $142,000.00-$145,000.00ish. Is that what you guys would deem fair or too much?

I've had two Murci's in that color. Looks great in person.

If it's spotless, $140k is probably worth it. If it's not spotless, I wouldn't pay that much.

If it's perfect except for the color why not get it and wrap it in a color you love? It protects the car, and you can peel it off when ready to sell if the new buyer doesn't want the wrap. Obviously there aren't a lot of 6 speeds out there so your options are very limited.

A friend who deals in collector cars says generally speaking unmolested is worth more, and far more coveted, than modified. He is not a lambo expert - he is a Porsche guy (and of course that market is going crazy).

I agree that skittles colors seem more popular, but I love the gray paint on that car, and I love the more "neutral" colors (black - white - and any shade in between). Different strokes. There will always be those who love the bright colors, and then folks like me that prefer a neutral on a lambo. I wouldn't let the color stop you. You should get what YOU love.

People may disagree but MY opinion is 1. Be weary of any Florida Lambo ESPECIALLY one that has been modified.

2. Get a thorough PPI from someone who is not Lamborghini of Miami.

PPI is a must!

That being said at least surface deep the car looks nice and tastefully modified or upgraded.

What's the reason to be weary about Florida Lambo's?

OP; I was looking at this vehicle the other day as well on ebay. It's definitely nice, tasteful mods aside from the engine lighting.

I wish I would have known this before I wasted money on a PPI.

PPI is something I would never not do. I would rather waste $1,000.00 upfront and find out the car's dirty secrets, rather than find it out through $$$ bills. I have a shop linked up to do a PPI on the car.

I think it looks really good, and the owner seems like a good guy who has treated the car right. I wish he would have kept more of the OEM stuff though. The only thing that is still causing me to hesitate are the mods.

What do you guys think on the exhaust? The sound is epic I'm sure, but some friends of mine have said they don't like how low it sits. I personally do, but I don't want to have something 97% of people don't find tasteful.

The color is the other issue for me. I like the way it looks. Silvers and grey always have a sleekness about them. I prefer the skittles colors too, so I am not sure about the silver. To be honest I just don't want to pass up a car that has 90% of what I want because of a few small things, because of how small the manual Murcielago market is.
