  1. This will be very interesting to to see how it pans out that's for sure... What do you do if you are TG producer - keep roughly the same format with a completely different cast ? Or go at it with a completely fresh approach ? No doubt TG was getting a bit long in the tooth and had been on the decline for a few years IMO but if they mix it up too radically then it's almost certain to fail. One thing it could be an inspired choice of presenter in Chris Evans. His record speaks for itself and if he can bring his magic to the show there's a good chance that it will succeed. The only slight doubt in my mind is that CE was at his peak 15 - 20 years ago - and it's not overstating it to say he was a broadcasting genius at that time. Time will tell whether that genius has deserted him or not..
  2. I think so.... I remember something he said about how it would light up the tires @ 80mph in 3rd that stuck in my mind...!
  3. ^^ That's the Holy Grail, the Best of the Best ; The Ultimate Diablo - IMHO.
  4. No complaints from me!
  5. That is fantastic - I need the exact same one!
  6. Yeah.....imagine how much better with a wing though !! ( that said: I saw that car at the Giro and it was an absolute 10/10 - the owner was a top guy too.)
  7. Thanks! Tiles are grade 5 Porcelain - I think the way they are laid is quite important as well.. I have to admit it was on my mind first time I drove it in but so far so good! I can't imagine staining will be an issue with these - not least because of the colour and the gloss.
  8. Thanks for your comments guys! Oh yeah I forgot to mention I have some speakers in the ceiling playing classic Italian Opera on continuous loop! Me too - what on earth was I thinking ?
  9. Just had some work done at my house and decided to upgrade what maybe the Worlds Smallest Diablo Garage, including adding a window from the dining room so I can keep an eye on what's going on in there! ( thanks Fortis ) In the garage I went triple black: black porcelain tiles, black polished plaster walls & black ceiling. The room is dingy and depressing as hell with no car in it - but as soon as the car is in and the lights are on it all makes sense - the yellow really pops out against the black and it becomes pure automotive art! Check it out:
  10. No idea - it was 1988 FFS! ( are you trying to catch me out ? ) Yes indeed - please see my post 112 . Hi VCR, Im scratching my head wondering what happened here… I was under the impression that the dialogue was being discussed in the spirit of good natured ‘banter’ but it seemed to go downhill very quickly. Your last comment about the Studer in particular seemed to infer that I am lying about my experience, and whilst I am tempted to go into full-on rebuttal & counter attack mode, it’s not really my style and it would seem a bit petty to have an online slanging match over such a trivial subject. All I would ask is that you please accept the fact that every post I made on this subject was made in the interests of healthy debate and I do know for certain that I haven't attacked you personally or questioned your credentials at any time. And crucially, please accept that everything I have said about myself / experience is 100% genuine. As well as owning an AV company I also run a business that designs and sells bespoke ,passive speaker systems (into an extremely niche market admittedly..) . We use off-the-shelf drivers, but otherwise the cabinets & crossovers are all designed in-house - by me using RTA’s and acoustic-modelling software… and a little bit of ‘ear’ input! . I mention this because I think it’s important you know that I really do have quite a wide knowledge of what's required to both create & reproduce quality audio. And yes it's also true that in the 9 years of running the AV business I have never had one single request for vinyl - hence my ignorance of what I would specify if a client did want it - it is just not on the radar for us. But, as most of our clientele tend to be middle aged men with plenty of money to spend; I do get to experience a lot of existing hi-fi / vinyl setups - and I am always keen to hear them. ( my own personal view is that the reason vinyl is making a resurgence is the fact that you can’t download or distribute vinyl for free so it’s in the record companies interests to promote it - and promote it’s ‘virtues’ .. but that may be just the cynic in me ) Anyway, I will concede that your knowledge of HiFi is more useful to members of this forum than my opinions on vinyl; so I will bow out and leave you in peace. ( unless someone says that a C90 cassette sounds better than a CD - in which case I won’t be able to help myself!) I think the cliched resolution to this is hopefully we can agree to disagree; so I will wish you all the best. Zack
  11. A tape?? ! Can you point me in the direction of this info ? ( and also just to check you aren't confusing working with analogue during the production/mastering process as opposed to analogue reproduction in the home etc ?)
  12. I detected a change in tone of your last reply which was disappointing and unnecessary I felt. I've made my current position very clear .... and yes it's at odds with yours. But I've also stated that I'm open to reconsidering as/when/if I ever hear a vinyl system that is superior to the ones I've already experienced . I can't say any fairer than that surely? This would be an unusual client for sure ( certainly unlike any I've had so far!) You didn't say if he already had an extensive vinyl collection. If he really was a complete novice with no vinyl then yes I would advise him not to go turntable and go all-out on a digital system. From then on I'd spec the best possible system with the most margin in it for me and I can 100% guarantee you the client would be delighted. If he really did want vinyl then I'd probably put a post up here asking what to spec him! I can assure you that in all of the scenarios there would be no money 'left on the table'. These questions revolve around my business - the ugly truth of which involves giving the client what they want whilst extracting the maximum cash out of them. If the same questions applied to a friend then the answers would be different.
  13. Seriously ?? Is that what this has come to?
  14. ? ?? I think you missed the point of my post.
  15. Just one more: VCR: the qualities you enjoy in vinyl that you do not think are so apparent in digital: The mixing & mastering engineers are the ones who have ‘given birth’ to the sound. They know all about imaging and 3D detail and countless more audio nuances - because they are the ones that will have put them there ( or otherwise manipulated the sound) . Indeed, on an album recorded with a decent budget they will have spent hundreds if not thousands of hours doing this - constant critical listening & tweaking. They will be so familiar with the finished result they will be absolutely sick to death of it! So then, having done all that - do we hear the engineers bemoaning the limitations of CD to faithfully reproduce what they’ve worked so hard to achieve ? I can’t say I’ve ever come across that ( not since the very early days of CD anyway - we can agree that the early DAC's were sub-par) In fact, as referenced in my earlier post; we have Bob Clearmountain & Bob Ludwig ( two of the most respected engineers in the biz) say the EXACT OPPOSITE about vinyl! It’s my time spent and knowledge sat behind the console along with my experience of vinyl vs digital ( so far !) that influences my position of the digital vs vinyl debate. But … I have never heard vinyl played on a monster-rig such as yours, so who knows...!
  16. That looks extremely cool - thanks for sharing the pic & the info.
  17. Yeah it's true - but it's all good fun eh! Something that surprises me: is that you don't say closer to 100% detection rate spotting Vinyl vs CD. I would have thought the flaws* in vinyl would give it away every time. If that is not the case then your vinyl-playback system-performance must certainly be well beyond anything I have ever experienced that's for sure. I think I need to experience your vinyl playback system! * could be described as 'character' depending on which side of the fence you are on!
  18. I will agree with you there
  19. Yeah it also mentioned that in double-blind tests people couldn't tell the difference between hi-res and CD. Got to admit that suprises me (assuming they used decent source material / reproduction kit) - shame there was no link to the test results... It's a myth:

  21. I think you hit the nail on the head right there
  22. Has it? I thought it had been for sale for ever @ around £300K ? Either way, at £999K ( $ 1.5m ) it doesn't seem to be priced to sell!
