  1. It's working! I wiggled a few wires, jiggled with connections and sound came back. I am not entirely sure which was the problem but at least i know where to fiddle about if it reoccurs. Thanks to VCR (existence of the brain) and falconsprint (location of the brain). Once again proving that this place is the best on the web.
  2. This stuff will make your teeth curl. Love it.
  3. Guys - Thanks for the replies. Nightlife - Wise advice, much appreciated. A new unit would be the easy route and would fix the problem. However I want to keep the car as original as possible and the IVA C800R came with the car when new. I might eventually do as you suggest but only after I have exhausted all repair, or if necessary replacement, options. VCR - That is a great shout on the brain. I would never have known. Thank you. I will take a look tomorrow and see if I can locate it. Any idea what I should be looking for w-r-t size & shape? Where would the brain fuse be? Internal or external to the brain. And finally, just so I don't lay in bed at night wondering - what exactly does the brain do? Is it like and old fashioned version of a CPU? Or perhaps an amp?
  4. My CD player / radio stopped working. I have zero expertise in anything related to in car entertainment but I believe the technical term is “it’s fcuked”. Previously when I activated the car the unit would come on, invariably blaring out House, Soul or dance music from a CD that some idiot didn’t eject when the car was last used, whilst the dash lights went through their routine. A further turn of the key and the engine would roar in to life drowning out the racket coming from the speakers. All was well in the world. What happens now is that when I activate there is a crackling from the speakers and then silence. The CD player is functioning. I can see it on the screen. I can change volume, skip tacks, change bass/balance/treble, switch to radio etc. It’s the same story when I fire the engine. No sound to drown out. And yes, before anyone suggests, I have made sure the mute is not enabled. My conclusion is that the unit is working but for some reason the unit is not putting out a signal to the speakers. Alternatively it is putting out a signal to the speakers but they aren’t receiving the signal. My guess the former is the more likely scenario but then what do I know. So I need help. I am hoping that somebody out there may know about these things or maybe even experienced, and fixed, the same problem on their 6 litre. Thank you in advance D S
  5. My favourite 3 watches in no particular order are Rolex Daytona, Hublot Big Bang Cappucinno and AP ROO. I don't wear any gold on my person. No rings, no brackets, no chains, no studs, no piercings. Nothing. But strangely I like gold watches. I was fortunate enough to get the last of my fav 3 recently so I thought I would post up. Reading through previous posts there seems to be a desire to see them snapped with the car. So I did that. But the quality is not great. The Daytona is my dress watch. Yellow. 1990 Zenith The Big Bang is my D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F watch. Rose I think of the AP ROO as my flash watch. Rose
  6. You have absolutely nailed it. For me this is without doubt the nicest SV I have ever seen. Orion with gloss CF. Wowza! Pure class and without doubt an icon for the future.

    Brexit

Brexit, Opinions? Here is mine - We are screwed. I blame the Remain politicians. The blame is equally attributable to the Conservatives and the Labour party. For the conservatives it was a political civil war fought on the battlefield of our children's and grandchildren's future. To say the labour party support for remain was half hearted would be a monumental exaggeration. They simply didn't show up. As for the SNP the referendum played right in to their hands. Scotland voted remain but the SNP deceitfully wanted leave. They knew it would trigger a referendum. Which they know they will win this time round. This will precipitate the break up of the UK with Northern Ireland leaving some time after Scotland leaves. I believe Wales will stay. We will be a United Kingdom of 2 countries that will at best become second rate nations after not too many years. However, the country voted Leave for a reason. In particular the labour heartlands in the north, which swung the result, voted against official party policy for a reason. That reason was immigration. The reality is that we are a small island and people believe we are being swamped. Also, many people (irrationally imo) blame immigrants for their social and financial woes. Amazingly some prominent Leave politicians are now denying that they said that immigration to the UK will be cut as a result of the Brexit. If you think about it this makes sense. There have been millions and millions of immigrants to the UK over the last 40 years not from the EU. We could have prevented these non EU immigrants entering at any time but chose not to do so. Why would we suddenly change now? And yet the Leave politicians gave the impression that inward immigration would stop if we left. Total bollocks. They deceived the poorly informed and played on base instinct of some of the electorate. Those not from the UK possibly don't realise what a difficult decision this was for many of us. I was of voting age (just) when we voted to join. However I voted to join what was then the EEC which was a free trade club. It then morphed in to a political club without us really noticing until it was too late. I didn't vote to join a political union 40+ years ago. The UK is the birthplace of parliamentary democracy. Despite what others have said the EU has too high a proportion of undemocratic decision making institutions and persons. There is an innate distaste for this within the British people. We like to be given the chance to kick politicians out every 4 or 5 years and give the other side a chance. We were denied this with many of the people in the EU with power. There was also the matter of corruption. Farmers with 5 cows claiming the subsidies for 200 cows. The accounts for the EU haven't been signed off by the auditors for years, if ever. There are many other examples of corruption and unaccountable spend in the EU. The recent influx of people from the middle east and north Africa to mainland Europe was also a concern. The laws of probability make it inevitable that some within the midst of genuine refugees will be terrorists hiding in plain sight. With free movement in the EU eventually some would have made their way here. For these and other reasons it was a very difficult decision for many of us. Me included. I voted Remain. In the end it was my daughter that swung it. I walked her down the aisle on Monday. In the days prior to her wedding the family was together and we talked about the vote. I figured that since it was she and her husband that would have to live the consequences that her opinion was what mattered more than my concerns regarding the undemocratic shape of the EU. I also realised that she would be economically screwed as a result of Brexit at exactly the point in her life when she would be least able to cope and recover from said economic shafting. I also wanted her to live her life in a strong and whole UK. I fear that won't happen now. Repeating what I said at the beginning of this missive. I think we are screwed.
  8. The second show was an improvement c/w the first. Still loads of headroom though. Chris Harris as the primary presenter is the way to go but I doubt the BBC will do that. Chris Evans will be locked in contractually. They could bring Chris Harris in as the third man, copying the format of the old show. That might fix it.
  9. Extra Gear on BBC3 was better - but that's not any real endorsement as it would have been very difficult to be any worse than the Evans/LeBlanc Top Gear. For non UK residents, BBC3 is an Internet only channel available on iPlayer. I am sure some of you know ways to circumvent the firewalls for iPlayer access. I know there is not much love for him on here but I thought Chris Harris was good. At least he actually talked about cars in a meaningful manner.
  10. The second ex Mrs Sidious lives in Fort McMurray. No contact in 18 years so I am only assuming she is still there. If so I hope she, her family and all the residents got out safe.
  11. Unfortunately I work and stay in London during the week and usually set off at 7pm on Sunday for the trip down. I managed to catch the Spurs - Chelsea match on 5 live (sports radio) driving down. I actually had to switch off when Spurs went 2 up and resigned myself to a tense day next Saturday when we play Everton at home. I switched the radio back on with 1 minute left and couldn't believe it. I spoke with Leicester friends today and they told me the city exploded. Thousands upon thousands of people came out, cars touring round blaring their horns, pubs full to the gunnels. Today was no better. Journalists from all over the world descended. I hate to think what the local absenteeism rate was today. They will receive the trophy this Saturday. The city will absolutely erupt. Picking up on the Capt explanation of transfers. If a player is in contract and wants to leave most clubs will sell regardless of how good he is. An unsettled player will never give his all and on top of that he can potentially unsettle the whole team. So clubs sell and usually make a few quid in the process.
  12. I'm still buzzing and can't quite believe it. In a recent interview actor Tom Hanks, who is an Aston Villa fan, reckoned he had £100 on Leicester to win the title. Odds were 5000 to 1. The press is saying that there were 47 bets placed at those odds and almost all from Leicester. Another thing to put this in context - Man Utd have spent more on players in the last 18 months than Leicester have in their entire 132 year existence.
  13. Absolutely amazing! It probably won't mean anything to 99.9% of the members on this forum but this is a big, big deal over here and a massive achievement for a realatively small club. Some of the big clubs have players that cost more than the whole of the Leicester squad. Many pundits had us as a sure thing to be relegated. Instead we win it! What a fantastic achievement. Proud to be from Leicester.
  14. Not that it makes the slightest difference to anything but I prefer the Dianthus over the Dione.
  15. I didn't even realise my roof required repairs until I had the LASIK treatment.
  16. I agree with VCR. On the Grande Giro I photographed anything and everything I could. It was encouraged. The whole thing was indeed choreographed and the hosts watched us unobtrusively but like hawks. I waited my chance and managed to slip away and was 30 metres off piste, heading for an area that was almost certainly off limits, before I was spotted. I thought the lady was going to have a caniption as she scuttled down the aisle towards me. They were all very polite about it. " sorry sir, you are not allowed down there for your own safety" and other similar apologetic explanations. Once they got me back in the flock they never took their eyes off me. I was a marked man for the remainder of the tour.
  17. No problem. I am due back home at the weekend. I'll do photos then.
  18. Ace, Yes, I had that made by ALSA automotive in Wales. Prior to that I had unsightly discolouration on the bumper paint caused by the heat from the exhausts. The piece is made from aluminium and is coated with the heat coating used on exhausts/ headers. It fits between the two fins found on the 6 litre bumper. From memory it was about £150 for the piece plus the cost of the Zircotec coating (£50 or thereabouts). I am guessing you are in the USA so a trip to Wales is not on the cards. Any decent local shop should be able to knock one up for you. Hope that helps.
  19. My comparison from a few years back http://www.lambopower.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=68559 Whilst the Murcielago is much loved the 6 litre is still my "to the grave" car.
  20. Thanks for that. I will give it a go. I am East Midlands. Simon Stubbs - top, top bloke. Very knowledgable. A true gent.
