Dan Ciezniewzki Report post Posted May 26, 2007 what are F40s going for these days?? NOT the garage queens or the ones with shit loads of miles,, but on average. about 2 years ago I looked at some and they were around 300-350k then shot up after like 6 months to 400k. So where are they now? Im banned from FChat, so those Fags are not an avenue for me

Dan Ciezniewzki Report post Posted May 27, 2007 anyone else?? 360k isnt that bad. I think here its would be lower due to the "high miliage" Ild prefer one that has been driven 2-3k miles per year if a Ferrari can make it that high lol, if not at least 1k miles/year

Smurf Balls Report post Posted May 27, 2007 i know 14 F40's for sale in Europe price ranges between USD 315K and 480K mileage between 54.000km and 5.800km...
murciroadster Report post Posted May 27, 2007 they will range anywhere from $330K-$450 depending on the mileage and if they were tracked. you should be able to get a nice one with 10-12miles for the mid $300K

I know the paint sucked (Id maybe repray yellow ), but other than the turbos what can really go wrong on a car thats basicly an engine strapped to a carbon fiber tub of a car?? no nanny devices or electronics to crap out. Im considering this as an alternative to a CGT. A $30k clutch alone is scaring me off, how bad can maintaining a F40 be conpared to that!! As for the F40's fit finish, yes the paint sucked, but then look at the body panel gaps, carbon work, interior work, etc etc. Parts for an F40 are outragously expensive. LPDADDY Report post Posted May 27, 2007 There is an F40 in Motorcar magazine that is advetised for 280000 euros. It used to be a street car and was coverted to race car an comes with spares. It is really good value if anyone has any intention of doing track days. As far as maintenance is concerned you will find that the F40's are quite expensive to maintain. Also,as Allan said they are getting on.I don't know if you have driven one but compared to today's cars it feels old. The shifter is horrendeous and the stock brakes suck.It does go well but does not put the power down efficiently. I understand your concern with ceramics for the CGT but remember this. The ceramics are supposed to last up to 300k of normal driving. The SLR HAS THE SAME ISSUES and i asked them about it.Replacement for the brakes are 40 to 50k from the factory but the lifespan they sadi sould be upwards of 300k . Also there is nothing that says you have to stick to factory parts when it comes to brakes.I can probably get a set done by a racing team for less than 15k. Anyway, good luck

Anyway, good luck expensive like a Diablo 6.0 expensive or even worse?? Ive aready dropped like 16k into a car I bought with 2800 miles and the dealer did about 15k in complimentary work, so Im aware its gonna costs a few pennys the shifter sucking it a concern on the F40, the CGT seems to have as good of one with the close short ratios as the NSX, a BIG plus as far as the breaks or old feal etc Im just looking to have a blast with it. I go out and tool around in my POS Buick and Ram 1500 that are falling apart and I have plenty fun, they just dotn cost butt loads to fix My concern above was with the clutch, not the brakes. However like you mentioned, Ild likely go with aftermarkets on both. Porsches prices are nuts!! I havent driven any yet, Im trying to find which one I want to set me goals towards. Once I have a goal it serves as great motivaion everytime I just wanna stay in bed. If I sell me Diablo and NSX I could maybe get one nbext year, if not then around 25/26. By then the CGT should be around 250-275k so Im trying to see if even with possible clutch replacement if the CGT+ a new clutch is worth buying over a F40 in the price department. It seems the F40 is kinda just falling to peices from what you guys said I kinda was hoping with it being so raw not much would be present to go wrong, thus ofsetting its higher price with less maintance, guess I may be wrong too bad, its looks much better that the CGT, or "Boxster" for you Allan
Dan Ciezniewzki Report post Posted May 27, 2007 he really seems to like the F40: http://youtube.com/watch?v=L30rnGCXziw and it really makes me want one BAD!!! as long as it'll stay on the road he even likes it over the F1!!!!, then again he kinda digs on it being "heavy" on the stearing, but I guess its all relative
abolfaz Report post Posted May 28, 2007 As far as the CGT clutch is concerned, I have a friend that just got it done for a little over $17k, not that bad. Regarding the CGT dipping below $300k, not going to happen anymore. The CGT as well as the SLR and the Ford GT are climbing in value. I disagree though with the 300k. Theres aleady a few below that have stories and good cars hoveringin the low 300s in 08 and 09 when the warrenties are over they sure will go below 300 and likely 275 for "high miliage" ones as far as SLRs, which i care nothign about. they are hard enough to give away from what Ive seen and heard, with the 722s out theyll be a steel in no time I reeeeeeeeeeeeeally want a F40, but I hate crap breaking and the repair bills even more, Im getting a lift soon so I can fix my own crap, but I still hate unreliability what issues are common withe the F40?? abolfaz Report post Posted May 28, 2007 give it 2-3 years Think about it, production has stopped for over 2 years now and there are already cars coming out of warranty yet the prices continue to go up. As long as the dollar is week, the prices will continue to go up. which ones are coming off of warrenty?? Im sure when the 04s do the 05s will be worth a lil more, but come 08 its all downhill from there. The gray old fart Porsche owners that just bought them cause it was the most expensive top of the line Porsche have been dropping them with VERY few miles that even Ferrari owners would be embarrased to say they only put on. Once the maintaince bills come due do their lack of driving skils alotta ones with some TLC needed with be out there. An once/if the CGT replacement comes out (if ever) it will sink the prices I remember someone (maybe you, idk) saying they would never sink below 350, then later 300 and I just laughed. Last I checked, 2 dealers in MI still had brand new ones they couldnt give away. I love them, but they arent popular cars, and the prices will reflect this soon, mark my words The NSX is outta production with a HUGE following form those outta the 100k+ sports car range, but they continue to slowly drop, and they are bulletproof! The going prices will be easier to prove than whether or not the 6.0 bumpers are CF or FB check back in a year and 1 in 5 will be around 300k gauranteed
abolfaz Report post Posted May 28, 2007 I remember someone (maybe you, idk) saying they would never sink below 350, then later 300 and I just laughed. Not me, I was predicting that they would be $200k cars in no time. Like I said, there are lots of cars trading today for close to $400k. Europeans are buying up just about everyone I've seen for sale recently, even the story cars. For those of us wanting to buy one, we can only hope they'll get cheap. Smash Boy Report post Posted June 3, 2007 F40 was bad ass in its day. BUT, in todays world, the horrible build quality, kit carish looks, and Insane maintenence are not justified. Yeah, but the driving experience is about as raw as most street cars will get, and there's always the potential for more power and better handling/braking. Looks and build quality are completely irrelevant to this discussion. An F40 is not for everyone.
Smash Boy Report post Posted June 3, 2007 Latest FORZA market guide reads: F40: Year (high/low) 2003 - $325k/$250k 2004 - $350k/$275k 2005 - $375k/$300k 2006 - $395k/$325k Current - $450k/$350k Bear in mind that the difference between high & low in this uber-F market is often the difference between 1000 miles and 3000 miles (seriously). Given that garage queens often make WORSE drivers, the smart money is with the "low" cars, fix them up, mod them and enjoy. These figures I believe represent US spec cars....not sure about the cooler Euro spec F40s, which are most likely cheaper. For those that are curious, here's a few more: 288 GTO: High from '03-present: $350k - $525k (!!!) Low from '03 -present: $275k - $450k F50: High from '03 - present: $795k - $850k Low from '03 - present: $650k - 775k Enzo: High from '04 - present: $1.5M - $1.2M Low from '04 - present: $1.1M - $950k
