TrentS Report post Posted March 23, 2009 Anyone have or had a Z8? I've never even driven one, but have always loved their looks... Seeing a pair of them out together today got me thinking I want one again. There seem to be some nice ones for sale but I don't know anyone who has or had one. I found a Z8 board, but I thought I'd ask here first for an unbiased opinion.
AAD Report post Posted March 23, 2009 I always thought they were way overpriced, but I haven't seen what they are going for currently.
Mike_S Report post Posted March 23, 2009 The Z8 has a chassis stiffness of a limp noodle. Other than that it's quite a nice car for me IMO. Very retro for it's time.

Its a great looking car and extremely rare. Mike, my last year neighbour had a Black Z8 imported from Germany (LHD)...made such a nice noise every time it drove into my estate

The engine from the old M5 was a masterpiece for it's day. I always saw a couple everyday infront of the Casino/our hotel in Monte Carlo. Lovely little cars. TrentS Report post Posted March 24, 2009 Thanks guys, I need to drive one and see for myself. I love the looks of them though. Horrible car inmo. Allan, how so?
kinnsella Report post Posted March 24, 2009 Horrible car inmo. One of the worst cars they ever built........great engine though. BMW rarely misses. The interior is a mess with the central dashboard........nothing says not a drivers car more than when the tach and speedo are not in front of you. It was so bad they gave it to Alpina to try and fix it.....and they put an automatic in it with a smaller engine. I'd rather have an 850 csi instead. abolfaz Report post Posted March 24, 2009 I'd rather have an 850 csi instead. That car and the 840 were a mystery to me. I briefly owned an 840, that car DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR ME, although they did look good with the right body kit and rims. I'd rather have a 928 gts auto if i wanted a fast cruiser.
TrentS Report post Posted March 24, 2009 Eh, I've done some more reading... Chassis warping and distorting shock towers Oh well... I do love the look of it but I have enough problems without buying any more. I have a 997TT (coupe, that I'm keeping), I just wanted a unique convertible to play with as well, preferably something I don't see dozens of every time I go out and thought this might be fun. I'll keep looking, no hurry.
kinnsella Report post Posted March 24, 2009 why not a bmw 507.............a driver and an investment. Same car......
TrentS Report post Posted March 24, 2009 why not a bmw 507.............a driver and an investment. Same car...... I do like them, they're gorgeous, but I'm not so into driving those old cars. I like all the modern conveniences. What's the price of entry on those these days though? Last time I noticed they were mid 6 figures for a nice one, but it's been a while since I've even seen one for sale.

TrentS Report post Posted March 24, 2009 Just a quick look online I see a couple of 507s for sale - One has no price listed, the other 885,000 Euros - If that's even close to what they're going for these days that's more than a bit out of my price range. kinnsella Report post Posted March 24, 2009 Didn't the 928s auto only have 3 gears? No...the GTS had a 4spd auto or a 5spd manual.
