05LSV Report post Posted November 18, 2010 I have a shop that will put either of these systems in, so I wanted to get some input from anyone with either of these built-in to their DD or weekend car. I've read the old threads on here and searched a few other places, and the only major consensus seems to be to "don't get a K40." The Escort is a little more to install, but not earth shattering by any means. Any real differences? If I go with the V1/Laser Interceptor, I was thinking of just doing the Dual Laser Interceptor, as I don't think I want to get the Quad and be forced to mount the 2 bricks on the back of my car under the trunk line above the license plate. Seems like it would be bulky and weird looking. Worth it to get the Quad over the Dual? With the Valentine/Laser Interceptor combo - is it weird to have 2 systems beeping at you and talking to you at the same time? Annoying? With the 9500ci - where did you mount the control and display units? Does it work as well as the Valentine? Are the laser jammers effective? Thanks for the help. djantlive Report post Posted November 19, 2010 if it's a daily, i would go for the escort. if it's a wkend car then V1. escort will be very quiet. almost too quiet. v1 is sensitive and would go off all the time if you live in a city environment. fine if you are in rural area or do freeways a lot. Depends on how serious you need your radar to be. I won't drive without my V1. I do city driving, but I put up with the beeping. sprite Report post Posted November 19, 2010 Lasert Interceptor + V1 is the way to go. I run 9500ci on my Spyder but I don't fully trust the laser jammer capabilities of the escort system, the LI is far superior imo. Take a look at this chart and also keep in mind this test is 2 years old, over these 2 years the LI has been constantly upgraded while the Escort Shifter system has not. http://www.guysoflidar.com/july-2008/laser-jammer-test.html For radar big advantage of the V1 is the bogey counter and directional arrows. Detection range on both system seems to be similar. I just drove from Atlanta to Orlando yesterday, went through 8 speed traps in Georgia, half of them were using laser so proper laser protection is a must. JPlatt Report post Posted November 20, 2010 I've used the V1 for the last 3 years and I have never gotten a ticket with it. The only problem if any is how often it goes off on false alerts.
05LSV Report post Posted November 20, 2010 Wow. Okay I was leaning toward the 9500ci but now I feel like I might want the protection of the v1 and the "superior" laser jamming of the LI. A couple more questions: Doesn't the LI talk to you or have a siren or something when it goes off? And the V1 is sensitive so it goes off all the time. Am I going to be pissed at all the noise after a week of driving with this setup? For those with the V1, do you run the detector "dark" and then have the remote unit mounted somewhere? I was trying to think of a trick place to mount the remote unit (ashtray?), but don't want to have to look down to see which direction the arrows are pointing. For those with the LI - is having the Quad system necessary? Thanks for the responses...

The LI gets VERY FEW false alerts. When it goes off it's a LOUD ASS siren that probably will scare you the first time it goes off, then it calls out the name of the laser gun being used. 05LSV Report post Posted November 22, 2010 Just had about 5 hours in the car this weekend and was wishing that I had the radar and jammer working. Thinking I'm going to go v1 and interceptor and maybe while I'm at it, upgrade the sound a little too. Pumped... Thanks again for all the input. srtricky Report post Posted November 22, 2010 LI + 9500ix is what I'd go with and what I have. I have LI + v1 and it gets annoying with all the false signals
amp3188 Report post Posted November 24, 2010 Valentine One is damn near a religion. Mine is a dirty little slut who knows where all the cops are and I love her. There is no alternative. Yes, I get falses in the city, but it really doesn't bother me at all because after a while you will be able to "read" your V1 almost like a sonar operator. For instance, if you go through what is a false on a daily basis that you have saved in one of the GPS based detectors then you very well could have it ignore the signal. However if you can interpret the information that the V1 is giving you then you could one day pick up a strange unusual signal from that normal "false" area and realize that its a cop running radar out by the gas station. I don't currently run a laser system, but it is in the future plans. One question that I have about the laser is will go off and if I choose to can they jam and/or interrupt the infrared signals coming off of the bastard object massive Infiniti SUVs? 05LSV Report post Posted November 24, 2010 I think they jam everything and you'll just get a false positive reading from a car with the adaptive cruise control. On the Laser Interceptor product, you install an "off" button within reach so when you get a signal you can turn the LI off and slow down. Then if it's a real laser from a cop, you'll get hit with the laser again but your speed will be down in range and you won't get pulled over. Small price to pay it seems like. Looks like I'm going with the V1 and the LI Dual product.

Even though the cops will normally laser from the front, they will sometimes laser from on top of a bridge or behind an onramp after you pass and front only jammers won't do much good in that case. It really depends on how much you drive and how fast you go whether it's worth it or not.

I'm not really thinking of the few hundred extra bucks as much as I'm thinking of mucking up the back of my car. The laser heads have to be visible and unobstructed, and in order to mount them on my car, they have to go on the underside of the trunk trim, on either side of where you grab to open the trunk. I thought it would look kind of sloppy. here's what I'm talking about (first pic I found in 5 seconds): http://www.the370z.com/members/antivirus66...d-placement.jpg your thoughts? sprite Report post Posted November 24, 2010 Yeah I think it depends on the color of the car. The last car I ran LI on was my Ford GT and it was black so it blended in much better.
05LSV Report post Posted November 24, 2010 got any pics of the rear heads on the FGT? How big are the heads? My car is black too but the trim that runs above the trunk pull is chrome. here's the back of the car. (silver car in this pic, but you get the point). Think it will be obtrusive looking? sprite Report post Posted November 24, 2010 I don't think I have a pic of the FGT with them installed, but they were installed on the top corners of the indented section by the license plate and weren't intrusive at all. AJGlobal Report post Posted November 26, 2010 Cool man. Thanks for the input on this. I'll put up some pics after I get the system installed. I have both. Been using the V1 since 2002. Great unit but outdated IMO. Even if you send it in and get the updates its still iffy. I recently installed the 9500Ci in the spyder and the only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have the directional arrows. Other than than its a great all in one system that includes the laser shifter capabilities. Now if you do the V1 with the laser then maybe you got something there. I'd like to know your thoughts which ever way you go.
BLACKBULL Report post Posted November 26, 2010 05LSV.......If the only thing holding you back from getting the quad set-up is aesthetics consider having the rear units molded into your bumper. A pro bodyshop should be able to give it a really nice custom look. Just a thought.
TheFilipinoStig Report post Posted February 21, 2011 Recently got a laser ticket - 900-something feet doing 20 over on the highway. This is my second laser ticket with a V1, but not running laser jammers. Just cruising on the highway, not barnstorming or anything - and it's always coming over a hill or blind spot when I'm not expecting it. Need a solution. Looking at Laser Interceptor. Does anyone have any success stories of getting hit, slowing down, deactivating the system and going past a cop?
