Just got back from Japan. America has issues...

Japanese is both an intriguing and interesting race. They certainly love to take ordinary things, study the daylight out of them and attempt to improve them to the nth degree. Unfortunately, it is sad to see that with the challenges from their stagnant economy and natural disasters that the demon of their past --- imperialism --- is resurfacing.

VCR, what do you mean about imperialism re-rising?

Would have to disagree here. Americans are very hard workers, pretty much the hardest working in the world, and the most productive.

I think Americans work smart..not hard...

if you think Americans work hard..look at China. :turboalex: <--- LOL just realised its named TurboAlex :lol2:

Wheels when was last time you traveled overseas?

Haven't had the opportunity to travel overseas yet. Why do you ask?

Because it shows, get some traveling under your belt then revisit the topic, you can only learn as much from the Internet, nothing beats hands on experience.

# 8 on your list haha. Cracked me up.

From my understanding, it's rude if you don't slurp or burp over there. It's considered that the meal was not very good or to your liking. There's a lot more to it too, the way you sit, the way you use chopsticks and whatnot, everything there is some kind of rule.

I agree, or at least from what I've experienced. Whenever I eat at international students places they do both of those things normally and I follow. And when I get them a good deal on a vehicle they always insist they "treat" me to a meal - come pick me up, drive somewhere they choose and they just order so much food and I go to work!

I have also appreciated the value of honesty and accountability I have experienced within their culture. I have not written contracts out for buying/selling cars for them as much as I should have, especially with bigger deals, but they always have been true to their word on kick-backs and such.

Me and my big mouth again :eusa_wall: On two things I realize I said, to be clear, on the Americans being the most hardest working, even if not so, American workers are consistently measured as among the hardest working (and ranked as harder working than Japanese). On my saying there is nothing comparable to the Interstate Highway System, I am not saying that other countries lack highways, far from it, just that none had one to the scale of the U.S., although I see now that China has surpassed us. But I didn't mean to give the impression that I thought that the U.S. is the only country with a major highway system and in all the other countries, they only have dirt roads and train tracks between the cities.

I am not commenting on your comparisons which really have no precise parameters in order to determine their accuracy, an American works harder than a Japanese, how do you even begin to quantify that? Please don't attempt to explain how hahaha.

If you saw a Japanese work or have experience with employing people I think you'd reconsider that statement.

I've never been to the States therefore I am not able to comment on anything related but what I can tell you is that the Autobahn is pretty cool :icon_thumleft: Hopefully you will visit one day and be able to compare it with your interstate highway system.

Traveling opens your eyes, once you gain that experience you will be able to express your views more accurately, I've traveled to over 30 countries and almost all the time my preconceptions were proven wrong, because of that experience I am staying away from forming opinions without first hand experience.

Yes, that is a good piece of advice. Just being proud of America in many ways, if someone writes something knocking on it, I am always inclined to jump in defending. On another note, how can you have visited thirty other countries and not have visited the USA!?!?

It's this forum's policy that we should keep our distance from politics so I am not going to depict details. Do some research on the Japanese political parties, in particular those that were newly formed in the last 5 years and who their founders were. Look up on how the Japanese Defense Agency had stepped up to become the Defense Ministry of Japan (Japan was not allowed to have its own "army/soldiers" after WWII). Lastly, do some research on how Japan is having border disputes with China, Korea and Russia. These should give you some ideas.

Never had a reason to travel there, maybe in the future.

Wow, this is very interesting. I know about the border disputes with China, but the major concern everyone talks about is Chinese imperialism essentially. A more militarist Japan will be something to keep an eye on. Out of curiosity, are you Japanese? I ask because you seem very knowledgeable about Japan.

Well if you like to visit countries for exploration purposes, learning of cultures, etc...I'd suggest you make a goal to visit here someday. We have lots of stuff.

I don't have anyone there, I have no reasons to go, I am not interested in exploring, learning of cultures etc. if it involves business and/or cars I am in if not I am not interested.

I consider traveling a cruel form of punishment, I love being comfortable at home, for me being on the road is a massive PITA, away from my business, my day to day activities, the main reason I've traveled to all those places was because my wife dragged me, that won't happen again in a hurry and since she's visited the States already I am off the hook, at least for now

I see; when you see said you had traveled all over the place, I initially had thought you meant for exploration purposes, that was why I was so surprised that you hadn't visited the United States. But if you hate traveling and only do so for business reasons, perfectly understandable.

I'm not even American (Canadian) but it's very obvious to me that our lifestyles are so much better then the average person in Japan. As mentioned in this thread Japanese people care alot about the way they are perceived on the outside and so do Koreans. If you look at their shows, and their music it's obvious they want to try imitating the american experience as much as possible. Btw my username is a character from a Japanese anime. I love their shows but it's obviously different from reality.

1) Japanese people have the highest suicide rates in the world

2) They've got retarded censored porn and most of them are based on rape

3) They work so hard because if they didn't they would feel so ashamed. It's so bad that they don't have time to get married and they're birth rate is dropping like crazy. Btw the percentage of sexless marriages in Japan is over 50%.

4) Their transit system is so good because their country is alot smaller. Can you imagine the traffic jams in Tokyo if everybody was driving?

5) Japanese people are good at making things but when it comes to inventing Americans are better.

As for the other points you mentioned Tattoos and what other people dress. If you judge people based on their external appearance then something is wrong with you not with them. Reason why America is so productive is because of a open, non judgemental, multi cultural society. We're allowed to freely express our ideas and try different methods. Not be mindless robots who follow one thing. When Mark Zuckerberg did the Facebook ipo he came to Nasdaq in a hoodie. That's America for you.

Japan has some of the wackiest game shows on the history of network tv. Some are outright sadistic, ruthless and crazy. If those were on North America tv, lawsuits will ensue 2 seconds after being on air, i.e. if it ever made it that far.

Japanese tv commercials, IMO, are the most entertaining. Some are so wacky that you have absolutely no idea on what they are selling until the last 2 seconds. And some are totally pointless; nothing but pure celebrity endorsement. I think I mentioned this before: they had a 15sec commercial where you see Arnold Schwarzenegger in a full deep sea diving suit holding a diving helmet standing tall. He slowly takes a big deep breath; that took 12seconds. Then on the last 3 seconds, a Cup of Noodles is displayed in full screen and that's it! No speech, just music background. Another one is Tommy Lee Jones in a profile shot; the camera pans and Jones' eye follow the lens. Then it switches scene with Jones drinking something in a can. Then it cuts into a big screen shot of the canned coffee.

Why do you think of him as a douchebag? I don't know much about him myself, but has he done some bad things or something?

There must be something in the culture that makes Japanese like torture and sadism. They were notorious for this in World War II. In the Rape of Nanking they say the Japanese outdid the Nazis in being terrible, which is pretty astounding considering Stalin's henchmen were terrible in Russia and the Nazis outdid them.

How many Japanese do you know that like torture and sadism? I have family in Japan, many friends, I spent lots of time over there and have never met anyone who was into rape, sadism and torture, please stop generalizing.

I think this thread ran its course!
