Countach: how many left?

Tough one to estimate.. 2,042 total cars... what do you base loss at? 10%? 20%?

Tough for sure. I am hoping there are experts here who can chime in.

Hard to quantify as well. Take for instance the yellow LP400 on the top right hand side from your link, we saw that car got wrecked at the beginning of the Grande Giro. It looks quite bad but it really wasn't too bad; definitely drivable. The owner was an extremely good sport as he continued on and finished the entire journey. So while looking bad, it surely wasn't written off.

VERY hard to tell

i think 5-10% lost maximum

many wreked ones being rebuilt in last years when values went up

expecially Lp400

i think only 5 of 150 LP may be lost

so 3% of LP 400

i am sure some more in the later cars

also i do believe only 1997/2000 cars built and i am sure SOME were built and rebuilt with different VIN at factory in the 70's and early 80's so already less than 2000 from the start

Id guess on the high side of that...

*25+ year old car...

*Sports car- easily exceeds average drivers abilities.

*Lots imported to the US as "grey market" with notorious consequences for reliability and longevity...

*Mid engine = higher fire hazard...

*serious decline in market value in the late 90s.

*Tubular space frame/parts tough to come by- super expensive to fix...

I would imagine that after at 28 years to 43 years of age if you count the very first cars sold in 1974 you could probably count on a 10% total loss.

The other question is what percentage of the cars are sitting in a state of disrepair. My guess is that this percentage is probably closer to 15% to 20% of the remaining cars.

Based on that, the percentage would be closer to 75% in various conditions of drive ability.

Dayum. If anyone has a wrecked Countach, we might buy it for winter project. How bad does it have to get to be unrepairable?

I would think it is less and less as values rise, what didn't make financial sense to repair or restore 10 or 15 years ago does today.
