So is the problem with this car mostly that it was in Panama? I believe the car was built by MC Customs for a baseball player who is from Panama? I could be wrong as its all hear say at this point. I am kind of interested to possibly buy it and restore it to factory condition again. Just don't know if the history of it will never let it shine as a collectors SV.

 

Considering how few were made and how many were totaled, sure it's a 'story' car but at the end of the day it's a rare, desirable, last of the bizzarini engined v12.

Who cares about stories as long as the car physically checks out or it can be made right? we started to sound like a Ferrari owners :shock:

I agree, I mean do we look at a restored Muira and ask if it had a story, blemished paint and wrong wheels?

 

The point is buying it at the right price and bringing it up to par, if you're not saving that much after all said and done, then buy a no story car thats perfect and pay the price.

Inspect the damn car in person, get a ppi then determine if it's everything the internet says it is. Sure the car has had paintwork, the paintwork I know about happened before it was ever sold new at the dealer and guess what, the refinished panels were done better than the factory panels.

 

I think everyone who hasn't set eyes on it need to reserve their opinions till they do.

History matters to me unless it was a nut and bolt restoration done and certified by the factory.

 

PPI's don't catch everything, and often can't even be trusted since the PPI shop may have a better relationship with the seller than you since you aren't local and part of their club.

 

Repainted panels that are better than the factory finish is a negative in my mind over a car that lived a good life and didn't need any repainted panels.

 

A car that costs a 1/2 mil new and is only 7 years old that needs to have restoration work done on it is just a bad sign that there will be hidden, expensive surprises waiting for you.

 

What makes a good used car? Good previous owners.

Funny thing was that the original buyers "expert" claimed the factory panels were the ones that were refinished and that the refinished panels were from the factory and used that as the basis is for the dealer to take the car back.

Of course, but with older cars, especially rare ones, you may not have much of a choice. You should have seen some of the Lambo owners down here in Miami from back in the 70's and 80's. A lot of owners are let's say "unsavory characters" who were definitely not "good owners", 30 or so years with most of these cars now owned by enthusiasts that have dolled them up or restored them, who cares about who owned it way back when?

 

If the idiots that have this car now would have fixed the lights and put the original wheels back on, I'm sure it would have sold several times by now.

I've been saying this all along on this car.

 

Could-woulda-shoulda is going to be thought by many on this one, in a few years time.

 

And Abolfaz - I emailed Penske about the wheels. We're 30 minutes away with a set. Do you think that they even bothered to respond?

I believe the car sold finally. I was going to be in Miami next week and thought about going to see it but so much for that now.

 

 

I have TWO SV cars in stock and another one inbound....no story PERFECT cars ONE owner and documented from day one...open to offers if you want an appreciating asset....

Roy, what's your take on the car market?

 

It seems like it's slipping, and the bubble is over.

 

I'm thinking about picking up an E-Type to enjoy with my Dad, as it's always been a favorite for him. Seems like their coming down in price like a lot of other cars.

Yes, the E type are now well under a $100k easy..I have seen them going int he $65K area as well.

 

I think the "used" car market as a whole is taking a breather right now..prices are not rising currently, but holding...except for a few of the "next" collectibles...

 

 

But as is with everything, goes up goes goes up goes down....for me, its just a toy to play with and enjoy...

Let me know if you see a nice E-Type roadster. I am on the tall side, so it probably needs to be the longer wheel base 71-74. I am looking for a high #2 driver that has been recently restored. I don't mind a few projects, but I don't want to get in any big restoration projects or need to do any paint or pull the engine. It must have a good A/C as well. Autos and manuals in consideration. And any color but yellow (that's for Lambos!).

Where are you finding them in the 60-70 range? For that price it would make a fun toy to add to the collection.

Thanks! I wasn't thinking I was going to get it that low. I was thinking I would have to go to the $150-160K minimum. It came from a well-respected concours collector (of Starbucks CEO fame) as one of the many he sold that day, and the local Jag E-Type expert was really enthusiastic about this car. We'll see if I did well once I have owned and driven it for 6 months.

Thanks! Yes, it's BRG with tan -- the favorite spec of my Dad, and honestly, even though I bought it, it's really a gift for him, so it had to be the full specs of his dream car.

 

He wouldn't be happy if I literally bought it and gifted it to him because at almost 80, he doesn't want the responsibility of an old Jag. So I will own it and maintain it, and just enjoy the fun parts with him while his health is still good.
