Smash Boy Report post Posted September 8, 2016 We have a few NBA season threads and only NFL kickoff/playoff/super bowl threads.....not good enough LP. Season starts tonight, an extremely rare Super Bowl rematch for an opener....Carolina @ Denver. While I predicted Denver would win the SB, I don't think they win tonight despite being at home. They lost just enough on defense I think that they may no longer have the best defense in the NFL, but I'll have to see it first. Losing both of last season's starting QBs to retirement and free agency might be the bigger issue here. I think I read it's the first time in NFL history (or in many years) that an SB champ starts a QB the following season who has never thrown an NFL pass. Now if Denver wins, then they would have beaten a top NFC contender who is very motivated for revenge....and did all of that with an inexperienced QB. Hard to predict what will happen this season. You can predict the major contenders for each conference (Arizona, Seattle, Green Bay, Carolina - NFC; New England, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Denver - AFC), but so much changes year to year that you really don't know. Injuries, players unexpectedly falling out/rising up to high level play, players being less/more hungry, coaching changes....it's insane how much can change despite what appears to be the "same team". February to September is a lifetime in the offseason. Typically there's 50% turnover for who makes the postseason each year, so it should be interesting to see who doesn't make it and the new blood. Curious to see what people predict for this season.
Chipster Report post Posted September 8, 2016 I haven't followed preseason much but I'd be surprised in Carolina loses. Hopefully it's not a blowout.
ATL_ Report post Posted September 8, 2016 PANTHERS tonight! Time to drop an ass whoopin' on the Broncos to atone for our dismal SB performance.
MrDoctor Report post Posted September 8, 2016 I think Seattle is winning it all. But I still have faith in my 9ers ! Looking forward to them playing the Patriots in November
Smash Boy Report post Posted September 8, 2016 I think Seattle is winning it all. But I still have faith in my 9ers ! Looking forward to them playing the Patriots in November You going to that game? Eagles beat the Patriots in Foxboro last year..... What's with the Seattle hype.....it's wearing on you too? They have a gauntlet of games to start the season....primarily teams with great D-lines/front 7s: Dolphins @Rams 49ers @Jets Then Falcons against their ex defensive coordinator, and at Cardinals. That supposed garbage OL....no more Lynch....an offseason of tape on Rawls.....I'm dying to see how that running game and Wilson respond to that. Smash Boy Report post Posted September 8, 2016 PANTHERS tonight! Time to drop an ass whoopin' on the Broncos to atone for our dismal SB performance. I would have loved the Niners to have played the Ravens to kick off the 2013 season instead of waiting two extra years. The 2015 matchup was two bad teams, but the win was one solace of a s*** season. If your Panthers win tonight it won't erase the pain, but it will be appreciated. Good luck! Hollywood996 Report post Posted September 8, 2016 this is a hard season to make predictions on. In the NFC I think the Packers and Panthers will win their divisions, the NFC West its going to be close between Arizona and Seattle, and the NFC East is wide open. In the AFC I think the Patriots might be the only dominating team (and this is with out Brady for 4 games), though the Chiefs might surprise a few. BLK TONY Report post Posted September 8, 2016 Rams fan here and happy to see them back in LA. Their new practice facility is in my town too! Lets hope they can turn it up and win some games.

The Patriots are so frustrating because even with half their team injured at times, they somehow still win, gotta respect that and it's why I don't think you can ever count them out as a contender until the Hoodie and Brady retire. I hope you are right about the Chiefs surprising people. Having spent my first 30 years there before I moved to Denver, I would love it if they started taking over the AFC West and contending for AFC titles. That supposed garbage OL....no more Lynch....an offseason of tape on Rawls.....I'm dying to see how that running game and Wilson respond to that. I just think Seattle is a good, complete team. Good defense, decent offense, good QB, good team chemistry, etc. I am 100% going to that game! Only game I'll probably go to . Gotta see my boy Touch Down Tommy! If Seattle wasn't in our division, 9ers going to the super bowl ! . Their schedule is really tough this season though. Plus, I don't think Kapernick has heart, so I'm just waiting for him to leave the team -- he doesn't want to be there. So far, imo, they haven't looked too bad during pre-season. But, pre-season is pre-season. I think CAR blowing out DEN tonight. Surprisingly, this first timer QB isn't looking so bad! It will catch up to him though. Smash Boy Report post Posted September 9, 2016 In hindsight, an extra 8 yards doesn't make that field goal easier with the type of pressure a game winner would have (and icing the kicker too).
CallMeJarob Report post Posted September 9, 2016 Wow what a game! Even with those three turnovers Denvers defense and run game were strong. You could see Cam getting frustrated throughout the game. I'm a Colts fan and excited to see Luck take it up a notch with his new contract
MrDoctor Report post Posted September 9, 2016 Cam and panthers coach are horrible. What a game though.
Smash Boy Report post Posted September 9, 2016 I don't think they will be. They look decent. To me! The anti-49er narrative in the media is quite strong. The team goes 8-8 after 3 consecutive trips to the NFC Championship and the whole Harbaugh thing and you'd think it was a 3 win team the way people talked. The casual fan just reports what they see. Even after getting rid of Biff as our head coach, improving the OL, adding some key pieces on defense, it's still seen as Cleveland West until proven otherwise. Now the team still has some weakpoints, primarily wide receiver.....and it's hard to know how much of QB play last year really was on the surrounding cast and coaching....but there should be noticeable improvement in the team this year. He might actually be maturing. I'm good either way on the guy. Seattle is Seattle because of that defense. But to go all the way you'll need more than that. I don't see their defense being 2013 good anytime soon, if ever. Wilson eating up $20+ mil on that cap space is the main reason why, and all defenses come back to earth eventually ('85 Bears, '00 Ravens, '02 Bucs). MrDoctor Report post Posted September 13, 2016 Gabbert the starting QB over Colin? Yup, he's gone after this season. How about those Raiders? They look really good. Surprisingly, Seattle didn't. Really like the Raiders though, I might put a wager down for them... Great opening week!

JK79 Report post Posted September 14, 2016 True. Hard to tell. Even the 9ers looked really good, but time will tell I didn't watch the 9ers vs Rams, Blaine Gabbert was an above average college QB but far from an all time great, but if he can lead a team to 28-0 victory, are the 9ers good or are the Rams just that bad? Looking at the #s it doesn't look like Gabbert lit up the Rams compared to the numbers from a lot of other QBs this past weekend, but he managed to not give the ball away either. Not trying to dump on your team, just curious what you think.
