  1. “…Uranus was in opposition to Saturn and the box-shaped alignment of these and two other planets. “ Funniest. Planet. Name. Ever. If you’re going to be taken seriously, don’t use the planet name that has been the subject of countless school-boy-level jokes, (it still makes me laugh, even at my advanced age).
  2. Price: £SAVING - "Why didn't you say; I'll have two then!" Like the price is going to be a deal-breaker when selling the automotive equivalent of a Picasso. Imagine being a fly on the wall if these two turned up at TH's with a big bag of cash... http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/jul/15/e...scottish-couple This quote just makes things funnier..."Chris and Colin Weir celebrated their £161m EuroMillions win by staying up all night and watching the dawn come round." The fun never ends in Scotland. Love the satin black finish inside. In fact, love all of it.
  3. It seems that this time they are targeting the known hypercar market; the concept of the "new" F1 has changed from that of the original. McLaren never went out of their way to produce the world's fastest production car; it just turned out that way because of the quality of the engineering/cost-no-object approach. Even the engine developed more power than they ever thought they'd get. As for there being no traction control, etc. I really can't see those who'd spend a £1M on a car wearing that on safety grounds; are you even allowed to build cars like that these days without every known safety device fitted? They're gunning for the establishment, rather than creating a niche of their own. I'm sure the new car will be awesomeness-personified, but it won't be an F1.
  4. Does it have a marine engine fitted; I thought LMs had the 5.2QV installed? Lovely collection you have, by the way!
  5. I suppose it's inevitable that someone will become the first to crash something & earn themselves the moniker as a result. This poor chap appears to have been the victim of a true accident, rather then having done something silly, (I'm thinking of the guy that drove his Veyron into a lake; I remember that being as a result of a bird flying close to the car, or somesuch) . As long as he's OK, it's just another accident at the end of the day, (although it was a stunning car). I thought the 'phone conversation was particularly amusing & dare-I-say, (without appearing racist), typically succinct for an Austrian.
  6. Protesting is an inalienable right, but aren't we missing the real issue here..? Exactly which bank is this? And is there a branch in the UK?
  7. You'll definitely need a coat; it's got rather chilly today. And some money, because no one here has any; in fact, the last time I looked, the country appeared to be closed... You could try the McLaren Technology Centre http://www.mclaren.com/technologycentre/ but I don't know if they do open days. According to http://www.woking.gov.uk/woking/visit/todo you might be best off getting hammered at the hotel bar. Oh, & we drive on the proper side of the road, so watch out when crossing
  8. It reminds me of the opening sequences to Police Squad.
  9. 0 > 16 - Did as I was told. 17 > 40 - Did as I wanted. 41 > current - Did/doing as I should have 17 > 40.
  10. My Dad always bought me die-cast cars when I was a kid; I was into cars & bikes from a very early age. One day he bought me a Corgi Lamborghini Miura in yellow; it wasn't the best model ever made, but it came with a plastic bull! Sadly, I no longer have it, but that's my earliest recollection of a Lamborghini & when I fell in love with them; I guess I was around 6 years old. When I started to read about Sig. Lamborghini, the thing that struck me about him was his apparent "up yours" attitude towards the establishment, especially Ferrari. This struck a chord with me; being British, we tend to back the underdog. This attitude was not only public, but came across in the execution of his cars & indeed those that followed after he left the company. For me, Lamborghini has always represented the slightly unhinged side of motoring; I love their cars in spite of their flaws, even perhaps because of them, as picked out with regular monotony by the press. To this day my favourite piece of automotive writing is Convoy by Mel Nichols which appeared in Car Magazine back in the 70's; the story of a Countach, Urraco & Silhouette being driven back to the UK. Awesome stuff.
  11. I read that the powers that be at Lamborghini decided not to produce a retro-inspired model for fear of being seen to be going "backwards" as far as car design was concerned. I remember thinking the same as you, & then I looked at a picture of a Miura next to it; one looked like an icon that cannot & should never be copied or imitated & the other like a once-beautiful car that had too many chin lifts & botox shots.
  12. I remember that Allan; I think the roadster had an oxblood interior & was left hand drive. If that's the one, I'm sure it was featured as a part of Carrera Sport's website, which is now closed, (www.lamborghinisport.com). The site also listed cars for sale. The company is still going & is run by Mike Pullen, a well-known &, I believe, highly-respected Lamborghini expert. I would think it likley that he was buying the panels in, rather than creating them himself, but it might be a good place to start. http://www.localstore.co.uk/store/169382/c...haywards-heath/ Parallel Designs are certainly the guys in the UK who were buidling GT replicas; can't remember them doing a SVR/GTR though. Hope this helps; apologies if it turns out to be a wild goose chase!
  13. Looks like you'd do well to hang on to her for a while... http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.as...paign=2011-9-20
  14. Beautiful classic lines; fell in love with them when The Spy Who Loved Me came out. Does it do a "Wet Nelly"? Gelcoats are super-rare; loving the tartan headrests, soooooo retro!
  15. I see where you're coming from; I love it, but it does sort-of say "swimming pool" a litle bit to me. Perhaps if it were a matt finish? The black wheels are a must; were they silver it would be "ugh", to me. Not gay, but then neither is purple, IMO. Lambo DNA includes flamboyance, by default.
  16. Very tatty, rare RHD.
  17. That was the EVO write-up, am I right? The difference was put down to fuel load & tyres, i believe. And it was red; everyone knows red cars are faster ;-) I just finished reading it myself & I have to say out of all the media output I'd put these guys at the top for being informative & unbiased, (unless you count the Porsche love-in they have...). The write-up went on to mention the Mac made up some of the lap time deficit compared to the Italia once the McLaren bods had stuck Corsas on it. The guy that collected the Mac from the factory said he believed he was the first to do so; I wonder if it was a development car, not necessarily representative of a customer car? If so, McLaren may have shot themselves in the foot, but may have also got a magazine to carry out some development work for them! Also of interest, (to me, anyhow), were the notes that the Mac handled inconsistantly; at least two of the journos mentioned hesitancy at turn-in, (as if the steering was "waiting" for the suspension's "reaction"), & that it felt like a Citroen at times, citing the hydraulic suspension system. Notes were also made about the Italia's quick, some said maybe too quick, steering, going on to say that's maybe why it feels artificially heavier at speed. At the end of the day, there has to be a "winner". In order to find the winner, comparison inevitably becomes nit-picking because the differences between cars at this level are surely just minutae. This is fine, (IMO), as long as that nit-picking is quantified & qualified. They're all gonne be good, let's face it. I've never driven these or such cars, likely I never will, but I've read enough over the years to realise that numbers ain't the sole reason people buy cars, (unless they're racing them), & those same numbers don't necessarily make them "better". I'm damn sure if I got the chance, I'd take a Diablo SV, (my dream car), over its then-contemporary, even if it didn't "do the numbers" the other car did. BTW, spunking a monkey on a test for half an hour must be better than a quarter of a million quid on the real thing & finding you don't like it. Unless you're stubborn enough not to be able to admit you made a mistake. Or simply have too much money. Sorry if any of the above is bloody obvious.
  18. Owner: "Hi, I'm off my tits on Krokodil, will you paint my car?" Random street urchin: "Sure". (The following morning...) Owner: "Damn, what a night; that gear's good, think I'll go for a blast in...Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" It definitely hides the shape, which I suppose is fine if you're not a fan.
  19. If the ducts ahead of those that raise up are cooling ducts, (next to the rear side window), then perhaps the "active" ones are used for aerodynamic reasons? They appear to be in the raised position when the rear spoiler is also raised. Or is that the point, (apologies if it is)?
  20. My girlfriend's just got over passing a 5mm stone; rare in women apparently, & nothing to do with diet, (we both eat very healthily), but don't know about the indigestion-remedy thing. Quack said that it was bad luck & she has another in the other kidney. I thought she was dying when she collapsed with the pain. Bad part? Took 2 weeks to pass including 4 days in hospital on morphine, I kid you not. If you've got 'em, you totally have our sympathy; bad enough to watch as an outsider, would hate to have 'em.
  21. Speaking as an Englishman... Here there is hope. Here there is truth. Here there is genius; I just soaked my laptop in coffee, thank you Joe. Not a monarchist myself, but I do appreciate what the Royal Family do for our country as far as tourism & overseas representation is concerned, Phillip's gaffs aside, although they are funny because they are sooo genuine &, I believe, without true malice.
  22. <Pedant mode = True> Fixed ;-) He's right you know; the weather's bloody awful over here; you can't see the sun any more... Epic thread.
  23. Transmission: 5 SPEED MANUEL Not sure I'd feel safe with this fella changing gear for me...
