  1. Stopped by the US Embassy here in Berlin today and took a minute to pay my respects. Thank you to all who have served and continue to serve.
  2. During the first Islamic caliphate (Abu Bakr) and until about in 732, the Muslims were accommodating and peaceful to those of other religions under their rule. Christians had to pay a small "religious" tax, but other than that, things were tolerant in comparison to the past religious treatment of other religions in other empires. Once Islam split into the two major parts that we know now, problems started; the interpretation of the Quran changed. Radical interpretation of any religious text can be used to justify any lunatics actions. Islam, from my understanding, was founded on what we would say are good moral principles, just like other major religions; but, over time, rules are bent and somehow justified in the minds of the radicals. I believe 98% of Muslims are well meaning people, but the actions of the few radicals taint the others.
  3. UMF 2014 dates announced and early bird tickets are on sale as of today. Ultra's website is getting so many requests for tickets that it can't handle it ATM
  4. You're missing the obvious. I would take a look into the book "The Mission, the Men and Me" by former Delta commander Pete Blaber. In there he talks about early plans to take care of UBL, and why they failed. The fact is that during the 90s there was terrible communication between agencies and military entities as well as serious lack in judgement from leadership -- and this can go all the way to the top (under Clinton). The blame cannot be placed on a single administration (Bush as you stated) for what happened. There were, unfortunately, many missed opportunities in the 90s to deal with AQ and UBL.
  5. This should have been done some time ago. I completely agree. I also don't exactly like this twenty four hour news cycle bullsh*t, it only adds fuel to the fire in regards to political persuasion and control of the media. No news in the truth, no truth in the news.
  6. I too am getting increasingly concerned about what has been going on. The fundamentals of this country that our founding fathers set out are quite honestly being spat on, and by the people that we elect to protect those same fundamentals. What good is swearing by the constitution if you are just going to insult it while in office? IMO Congress and the vast majority of politicians the past 15-20 years especially are laughable, and furthermore, I'm disgusted. The political culture is deplorable; they care more about their next election and the power that they have than what they were elected to do, serve their constituents and LISTEN. It's obvious by their actions that covering their own butts is more important than what they were elected to do. I'm getting pretty tired of watching congress sit on their hands, argue for a little bit, whine, then pass bills with so much fine print, red tape and other bullsh*t that blatantly disrespects the constitution. The people have to be able to trust their elected officials. It really is a shame. Corruption is the downfall of ideals, you would think people would learn from the worlds former great civilizations like Rome. On another note, with shows like Person of Interest, books like Black List by Brad Thor, the NSA facility in Utah and other theoretical albeit plausible concepts of an overarching surveillance system that watches citizens in the name of security is some scary 1984 type of stuff. I'm a little worried about the possibilities. I believe so strongly in the spirit of this nation, it's founding principles, our military personnel, and the resiliency of our people. It just infuriates me to see the kinds of things being done in Washington to backpedal on everything that so many have worked so hard to establish. I'm sorry I don't have any more to add to the discussion than a small rant, I'm just really quite concerned.
  7. She's from Council Bluffs (or Council-Tuckey as we call it in Omaha), not surprised she's a little messed up.
  8. National Guard SF? I also heard about JSOC sending some EOD units to help out. I wonder if any tier 1 units were helping out also?
  9. I wonder how far we will go in the name of protection against terrorism... In regards to talk in the media about even more surveillance cameras in the streets...no.
  10. Did I just hear that HRT made an arrest? One officer asked if it was the "white-hat guy" and the other said that he was a little bit away from the scene, but they cuffed someone and are processing?
  11. I thought they removed trash cans along event routes like this because of what happened in the 80s in London?
  12. International Law (UN Armed Attack Charter 1945) dictates that a state can enact military force in a few cases: Right to protect - i.e. in the case of genocide (humanitarian intervention) Self defense - divided into two types: Anticipatory Self-Defense (threat of immediate attack) and Preemptive Strike. This does seem a bit vague, and maybe even out of date.
  13. While I agree that it's scary and that they are extremely nationalistic, I believe the comparison made is ludicrous. I certainly hope nothing happens, but we have to remain steadfast and strong. Kim Jung Un certainly isn't stupid, he was educated in Switzerland and was apparently a good student. So, he is aware of the consequences of starting a war with the South, and in the end I can't see him stepping too far.
  14. This happened at the spring game today. Really awesome moment. A side note: Jack was taken under running back Rex Burkhead's wing a few years ago. He's quite a big deal here. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Team-Jack/130253380409979
  15. Guy in the comments says its Tblisi, Georgia
