  1. Loved the books, they were far better than the movies, but I enjoyed them still. I went with the gf to the premier which was pretty fun. We'd never done something like that before and it was a good crazy festive atmosphere in there. I did chuckle though at some of the people who were crying in the film. Not because they were crying, but because they hadn't read the books and were subsequently crying at completely inappropriate times.
  2. I'm fairly tolerant and laid back, but there is one thing that infuriates me more than anything and it has been getting worse every year. The two lakes closest two me that I frequent the most are full of the shittiest most dumbass idiot boaters on the planet. The lakes are relatively small, but I don't always feel like trailering the thing for 2-3 hours away all the time. However there have been more and more people getting out there who don't have a clue as to what is going. I almost only go during the weekdays now to try and avoid the majority of them, but its crazy. The thing that really bothers me about it is the severity of what fcuk up with a boat means. I've had a wakeboader down in the water before and had to swing the boat around Navy Seal style to position myself to take a ramming broadside from an out of control boat to prevent them from killing my friend. Just two days ago I saw a bunch of kids on a deck boat holding onto the rear end of the boat while at full speed. One of them slipped and fell just inches from the prop and their friends didn't notice until literally a minute later. I would have gone and gotten the kid and chewed some ass, but I had people in the water myself and wasn't about to leave them. I guess moral of the story is that those same stupid people who had no respect or thought of others with motorized equipment is just fcuking scary.
  3. We have right wing, lots of times Christian based, extremists in our country as well. Many of them plot terror and attack police as well. Anyone remember the Hutaree Christian Militia from Michigan that was busted last year? http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20002337-504083.html We also a scary and growing movement of sovereign citizens in this country. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38668124/ns/us...ounter-culture/ I have an old Uncle who is retired Customs/Border patrol and lives in Montana. He has worked there since the 70s and has seen a lot of shit go down up there. The thing to remember with Montana is that it has always been a place that has politically been pro individual rights. Unfortunately that also makes it a haven for crazies. He's said that there are more and more of these people moving out there all the time and that the organizations/militias are growing. Its a scary world we live in and there are crazies like this man in Norway everywhere. I am more frightened of these right wing Christian militants and the sovereign citizen movement than I am with Islamic extremism. That is because those people are literally hiding right in my back yard, very much in the same manner as the man in Norway (As it appears right now of course). I have spent some time in the Arab world and have been in places that no longer exist because of terrorist attacks. There are far more attacks and deaths that occur in the "home" regions or countries of an extremist than outside of it and as a result there are far more Muslims and Arabs than Christians or Westerners that have been killed by extremists with the same religions as their own. I don't have hard numbers on that and I don't think that we ever will, but anyone who works in the field will more than likely agree. The majority of Muslims/Arabs that I have met hate the individual groups and terrorists just as much as all of you do. World-wide there is a severe problem with extremism and it occurs within all societies. Its not just Arab or Muslim or Christian or whatever. What we all need to do is quite associating the violent attacks that occur on our little insignificant blue planet with one broad group of people. All that does is spread hate and highlights our severe misunderstandings of one another. If we continue to spread the hate then there is no way in hell that we will be able to focus on the small independent actors that set off the majority of the violence. The acquisitions and finger pointing happen on all sides and I am not merely trying to "scold" anyone on this forum for doing so. I have been guilty of it before as well. As far as the religions go they seem to breed intolerance of others and I personally don't think that humans are mature enough to be able to handle them. I view them as a pivotal issue in extremism by making it very difficult for groups of people to accept other groups with differing viewpoints or beliefs. To me they seem to lay the foundations for trouble.
  4. That is actually exactly what I did. haha.
  5. I also live in what would be considered a "nice" neighborhood.
  6. I know I've been away for a while working on some projects, but I really could use some advice with this one guys. Last week my dad and I ended up breaking up a serious fight between two of our neighbors at 3 am. One of my neighbor's, Joe, was on top of the other, Kyle, beating the shit out of him and attempting to excavate Kyle's garage with his head. It was a fairly serious fight and one that we had a hard time breaking up. However we did get them separated and back to their own homes. We've tried to stay out of it other than just breaking up the fight, but unfortunately that has not happened. My aunt got involved and my family has been very close with Joe's for over 10 years. Come to find out Kyle had solicited Joe's 15 year old son to go and buy drugs for him. Joe has been in a constant battle for the last 2 or 3 years to make sure that his kids stay clean. The whole family has had issues with drugs/alcohol, including Joe himself when he was a kid. Well Joe had literally just gotten his kids on the clean and straight arrow again; he didn't take this news very well. Kyle was pissed when Joe's kid gave him the drugs. Apparently the drugs were bad. So Kyle decides to go and tell Joe that his kid sold him bad drugs and that he's pissed and wants his money back. Joe attempted to resolve the situation peacefully with several talks, but Kyle threw him over the edge and threatened his family again. So Joe lost it and beat the hell out of him. I can't say I would have acted any differently. Joe went to the cops the night of the fight and explained the situation and asked what could the police do in this type of situation. They said that they could come in, but since Joe's kid did technically "deal" the drugs to Kyle they would be forced to go after the kid as well. Not to mention Joe and Kyle for the physical fight. Kyle didn't call the cops either, so its been at a stalemate. All the neighbor's know of the situation now as well. However, I have had an aunt living with my family for the past year. She was going through a hard time and we put her up to get back on her feet again. She's not the sharpest spanner in the shed though and has take a liking to Kyle and thinks that Kyle was wronged in this situation and that he's just a nice guy. She's now moving in with him and has said that he's going to help her move in. I've told her if he walks up to the door I'm calling the cops. There's more to this, but it doesn't need to go deeper. Basically my aunt has dragged my family into it. All the neighbors want this guy gone, and want him gone bad. There is strong evidence that he may be dealing drugs himself. The only problem we've had with getting the police involved is that Joe's kid is going to get caught up in it and Kyle has enough text/email messages saved to prove it. Does anyone have any tips for this situation? I really appreciate it guys.
  7. Great thread. Today I was actually making some phone calls to a very old friend of mine who works on her own app development and has done some remarkable things. As part of the business that I'm currently working on I will require a very complicated and complex app down the line and I was going to bring her into the project. Luckily for me I trust this person 100% but I was still going to head down the copyright and ND road as its always best to do that. I've even got a separate app that I was going to talk to her about that is in its bare bones essentially copying an app that exists already in 50+ different variations. Now, I'm not trying to be a bad guy and steal ideas, its just a very common app. Where I think I will be more successful is in the creativity of the app which shouldn't touch on any copyrights since I have yet to see my version of the app appear anywhere. From what I've been able to find through exploration of different versions its essentially like writing a book in the same genre. Who knows though, I could be wrong, but thats why I'm consulting my app developer.
  8. Awesome, and similar thoughts when I saw it for the first time.
  9. That is awful. Following the last game of my brother's freshman year at Eastern Illinois University we got a call that his lineman coach (he is a lineman) was killed in a car accident. This man was the only reason that my brother went to that school and my entire family had fallen in love with him and his family. It was extremely tough on all of us, but especially my brother. Like I said, that man was the only reason that he went to that school. The team is for the most part made of up thugs and the riff-raff that gets kicked out or can't make it in D1 Schools. He would have been at one of those D1 schools had it not been for his high school coach, but that is another story. So he has to deal with fighting for his spot all the time because they always have some new kid coming in from D1, like the asshole who got kicked off his previous team for nearly killing a man in a bar fight. He's also got to put up with the other asshole coaches on the team who don't hold 2 cents to his late coach. Well, the first game of this last season (he was a red-shirt freshman, so this was the first game of his freshman year) they started against Iowa. It was a game where EIU was to make a good buck for getting their asses kicked so that a Big Ten school could get a nice "scrimmage" and a win in for their season opener. Well, they did get their asses handed to them. But, my brother stepped up through it all, and earned himself a starting position and made several Iowa linemen his bitch during the game on The Big Ten Network. His teammates on the line would start to loose their guy and my bro just reached over and picked up another man even though they were double teaming him off the snap. It was one of the most impressive things I've ever seen out of him. He managed to persevere through it all to get to that start and that along with that girl in the article is something amazing and I fully believe that those types of athletes have something that the average bear usually can't find. My brother's struggles aren't over however. Not nearly as tragic, but the only other coach who is worth a damn over there (another long story) just left to go coach with the Panthers and they've brought in a new batch of D1 drop outs who he has to fight for position with. So, instead of going out on his spring break to Florida like we do every year he is staying home and living in the gym. Like I said, they've got something the average bear lacks.
  10. I'm looking for that amount of income In all seriousness though its just about being happy. What makes me happy? Today I had one of those meetings that could be monumental in the long run of a very globally minded and organized company which I am in the process of starting with my partner. There is a lot of hard work in front of us, but the plan is laid out and we are working one day at a time to make our baby work and it looks extremely promising. So long as this company is working and I have enough to pay the basic bills I would be happy. Fortunately though there is the potential for a nice level of income which means I shouldn't have to worry about much of anything when it comes to finances.
  11. Yea, I've been a fan of these and have loosely watched the development since the Navy started the new Littoral program. Wikipedia's also got a great shot of the USS Independence docked in Key West. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:USS_Inde...2_at_pierce.jpg
  12. Yesterday while on campus I heard some girl yell at me as I got off of an escalator in our campus center. I turned around to see that she was trying to get my attention for another girl who was running up the escalator after me. Not used to women running up escalators after me I was intrigued and waited till she got up to see what she wanted. When she go to me she said, "you dropped this" while handing me a ten dollar bill that had apparently fallen out of my pocket. I said "thank you" but she was already on her way with a little head nod. She left me and the first girl who actually got my attention standing there shocked that some stranger would take notice of who dropped the money and run up an escalator out of their way to return it. Unfortunately I was too amazed at the time to inquire about phone numbers and methods of which I could give thanks. Still though, completely blown away about that girl's awesome nice deed.
  13. Its true. We are the most violent species on this planet and any human or mob of humans is capable of that. Luckily most of us here are living in a society that through government has placed many laws as well as education in place to keep these types of things from happening. I also don't just blame Islam because the big three in the Middle East and Western world (Islam, Judaism, and Christianity) all hold strong hands in keeping women and sex repressed from the societies that they influence. I have in the past found myself thanking this forum when I log on because it is so far from that repressive and close minded Catholic upbringing that I had. I'm sorry to laugh in a forum of this serious topic, but I found myself loosing it while reading this and having your picture of Ron Burgundy looking back at me.
  14. I ask because it was the pro-Mubarak crowds who had been assaulting journalists. The anti-Mubarak crowd who was protesting for democracy actually has several female head organizers.
  15. This is disgusting and those who did this do not deserve to exist on my little blue rock. Do we know whether it was pro-Mubarak or anti-Mubarak who attacked her? This is also not the first time that something like this has happened. This has been an issue for female journalists for some time, but it is not commonly reported because they are afraid of loosing their jobs as a journalist and never being assigned to work in the field again.
  16. That was my thought on the .co as well. I was just curious since this this whole internet thingy keeps growing and if the premium for a .com would increase, but then again I am doubtful even on that. If I figure out a domain name for a serious business or project I'm going to secure it in multiple forms.
  17. What are your guy's thoughts about the .co and how it compares to .com or .net? It is fairly new isn't it; think it will catch on?
  18. I just had a good chuckle seeing how serious that model was trying to look while wearing that shirt.
  19. It may be out of taste with a lot of people here, but honestly at Lexus GX470 would have no problems if you want a serious vehicle to actually get you there with the least amount of headaches possible. The 470 is just a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser with a little more plush of an interior. Modify it slightly and you can have yourself a very capable vehicle--one of the most reliable out there in my opinion. Parts are readily available too. Its not the fastest or sexiest, but it should be capable of getting you there. It might be a little flashy for Mexico and you wouldn't want to attract attention to yourself in some areas right now, so just a regular Toyota pickup truck might be the best for that. They blend in very well and are very reliable.
  20. Best of luck with it. Let us know how it works out for you.
