  1. As someone who designs/builds some aftermarket parts in the automotive indurty, I'm absolutely AMAZED what people are willing to pay for this work. $100k to add 100hp? $100k into a Ford GT? It's 90% mustang mod motor, WHAT THE fcuk! I could set you up with a titanium or inconel header/hot side, stainless steel turbine, TT setup for 1/2 that price that would be F1 level components. This is just absolutely absurd! Did I mention how much I love that *shitbox* viper? $10k and it will put down 800 rwhp on pump gas without pulling a valve cover.
  2. Ok forgive my inexperience here, but what makes these parts so special? They sure look like some pretty standard heim joints to me? Are they a funky size, dimension, etc, not readily available from FK or another big name MFG? For $200+ a pair those things better be top of the line and absolutely massive! Monster Truck Heim's aren't that expensive!
  3. I'm curious... you do realize the gentleman you're insulting (BMWRACER) has a pair of fcuking wrist watches for sale here, either of which are worth considerably more than your M5. You may want to turn down the e-ego because you're way out of your league around here buddy.
  4. No the whole purpose was to shine a light on the integrity. . . err lack there of, of this person and their business. He might build the damn SR71 out of a box of paperclips but if the risk is handing him $300k and getting back a pile of scrap metal with an I'm Sorry sticky note stuck to the steering wheel, the fcuk it, i'm out. I'm not sure how you're not seeing the big picture here, other than being drunk on shado-jiz and overlooking the obvious problem with how the situation was handled. Accidents happen, we all make mistakes, it's how you handle those problems that separates the men from the boys. He clearly never got a lesson in business ethics, and how to reduce your liability. What if he would have hit someone and injured them? He alone would be responsible for that and essentially could have lost everything in the blink of an eye. I mean everything, car, house, business, etc just up in flames. On principle alone I hope Peak gives him a litigious prison raping.
  5. This. Carbon doesn't take well to repairs, and truth be told anyone skilled enough to repair it will charge as much as just buying a new replacement. Wrap some gold heatshield around it?
  6. Actually most drag cars aren't must longer, but the chute mounting principles are the same! If you do it right you won't lose any drivability, but big HP is a huge money pit and there is no way around it.
  7. So Dave, when can I borrow your car? Since it's insured by you and that's all that matters, you should have no issue right? I mean, no matter what you're covered so it's all good. Or if a local insured mexican drives his 84 toyota truck and over the curb and takes out your car, impailing it with a weed eater, you wouldn't be upset one bit right? Truthfully, I would be pissed if a mechanic took my daily beater diesel pickup for a spin and got an unsightly scratch on it, let alone wrapping it around a tree 30ft above ground height.
  8. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. A- He may be a technical God B- He has no insurance on My Vehicle in his sole possession. If B is True, A is irrelevant to me. He isn't an employee on my payroll which I'm required to insure, it's his business, his income, and this needs to be factored in as an expense. It's coming to the point where I would all but want a performance bond before handing over the keys.
  9. 1. They are directly talking about mounting it to the live axle (not IRS) vs to the chassis. 2. Even mounting it to the axle on a drag car puts it at minimum of 18" off the ground static, and closer to 24" when in use. Not the ultra low mount on an exotic like this. Beyond that, the CG of a drag car is MUCH lower than on a street car, so they get even more leeway in this situation.
  10. From the pics alone I can tell you it's WAY below. Look at where the tug mount (not the deployment bucket) are mounted on racecars, it's high enough that with the chute deployed it's pulling almost directly back. With the mount a good 8-12" off the ground on these cars, it's essentially a huge lever just trying to yank the back end off the ground when the chute pops. Look at the mount on Kyle's car: That mount should be at least license plate height, preferably pulling right through the rear grill.
  11. Has anyone else looked closely at some frame shots right when the chute pops? I swear it looks like the rear wheels are yanked off the ground. I hate to even speculate, but my experience and gut feeling says that the chute tug point being mounted below the CG centerline sure didn't help the situation.
  12. Well I signed up for the forum, got my 30% and ordered one up. Can't wait, I'm sure it will make a great companion to Cramer's book I'm just about finished with
  13. Well crap, thats what I get for slacking off around here Any ETA on when the public release will be shipping?
  14. Is it still just preorder, or are they shipping copies from AMAZON?
  15. FWIW, you might try these "questionable" ways at AAA rather than the DMV. Being a private, member paying company, they are IMO FAR more likely to let you slide. DMV will enjoy giving you some financial prison rape any chance they get.
  16. Zonda R! http://www.rmauctions.com/FeatureCars.cfm?...&CarID=r223
  17. I dig the tungsten cases, such a kick ass look and you'll never hurt it. Prob weighs a ton, but would be a kick ass daily beater.
  18. I'm trying to narrow the focus, but something relating to green building and specifically TREES! As well as DE-Malling cities. Everyone is moving toward the outdoor, open, green, nature type environments. See ASLA, etc.
  19. FWIW, I think it's absolutely fucked that Ray had to pay ANYTHING regarding this. Who will cover his travel expenses just to come sort out the lies? (he owns a jet iirc, so just flying to CA to see the b/s cost him what, $15k?) Some may say Ray is a wealthy business man and he can mop his garage floor with $100k, but that isn't the point. Any RESPECTABLE shop would have just told him don't bother flying out, the car is fucked, we'll have a check in the mail this week. IMO, Ray is all but cutting his losses as the time spent isn't worth the $$$ involved. Ray, you're a far more understanding man than I am. Best of luck with your future endeavors, you sure earned a truck load of karma on this deal.
  20. I am watching this as I'm typing. . . it's terrible that a 9yr old boy was killed from a known defect dating back to what, 1946? Recall would be $22m... they paid out $17m on a single court case. In other news, did I mention how much I love my Sako L61R? Older than I am and has never let me down.
