  1. As usual... most people didn't even read what they were signing. The references to the italian penal code were cute.
  2. > Our car, like endless others, will lock and arm the car (red light blinking on doors) but no siren beep. That is the problem. Does your car have the two disable buttons and the volumetric sensor?
  3. > car has to have the optional alarm system for the siren to be present and chirp Yep, the chirp comes from the optional alarm system, not just plain door locking. The system consists of a tilt sensor (to detect towing/lifting), a volumetric sensor (to detect movement in the cabin), two disable buttons (located on the bottom of the pillar behind the driver's door -- the tilt sensor needs to be disabled when the car is being shipped, and the volumetric sensor needs to be disabled when you're trying to leave a Chihuahua with separation anxiety in your parked car), and -- at least in my SL -- a red LED visible though the driver's door window. The chirp is emitted upon successful arming -- to the best of my knowledge it can be disabled via a firmware setting; however, I have never bothered to try. If arming fails -- say because the front hood is latched but not fully closed -- then there will be no chirp and no red blinking LED, i.e. just plain door locking.
  4. > Huracan has Veneno style screen when it becomes CORSA. I asked them to demonstrate that screen during my session. They couldn't. Merely switching the driving mode and cycling through the screen modes certainly didn't do it -- we tried.
  5. Besides depreciation, early cars starting to come out of warranty, seasonal supply/demand changes, or cars seeing more and more miles, there are another two big elephants in the room. First there is the mythical 4,000 car limit. More than half of them have already been made/sold, and the order books are said to be pretty full, i.e. the remainder may -- for all intent purposes -- be spoken for. So what's gonna happen? Will Lamborghini "milk" the car for all its worth, by raising the limit, and showering everyone with Gallardo-like special editions, giving it a facelift, etc.? Or will they go straight for a proliferation, a la M-to-A or G-to-H? I don't know... but I am pretty sure that they won't go without having a halo model. Which suggests that the Aventadors will continue to depreciate for some time to come. And second there is the Huracan. Its fully-loaded price effectively ends up approaching the used Aventador market from below. Yes, there are differences in opex, practicality, etc. etc. -- but when my choice is between a fully-loaded H and a used-but-nice A, then it's gonna be... interesting to pick.
  6. Yeah, people who get invited and sign the legal agreement but then take/post pictures anyway, should be walked out, and should be ineligible for entering an order. Anyway. I attended one of the sessions today. Having run into the car during road testing in Germany back in September, the unveiling and firing up were "as before". I had a long list of expectations and concerns... and the car came in exactly as/where I thought it would. Which is great. More importantly, I got all of my questions answered, and I was able to make up my mind. So I'm pretty happy now.
  7. lap time #2 better be from a Nuerburgring run. lap time #1 better *not* be the Top Gear track. :-)
  8. Fwiw, the second picture at http://heffnersperformance.com/ttgbuild.htm shows the 08 SL corner weights as LF=756 RF=702 LR=930 RR=924 total=3312 After almost 63k miles in mine, I have come to terms with the right front being a tad light. Where can I find the corner weights for a -4 vs -2?
  9. Google for "lautlos e-gear pump pressure tcu" or "lautlos 470497-post4.html". Disclaimer: the result will be a post of mine on another message board -- it's where I wrote it up during a similar thread.
  10. Meh. When I spotted the prototype back in September, I was excited but underwhelmed and disappointed at the same time. Yes, it is a nice car. But it also is nothing but yet another proliferation of a predecessor model -- something that the automotive industry is filled with these days. Yes, Lamborghini is subject to the same constrains as everyone else: development is expensive, a truly new model is risky, marketing can be hit or miss, it's difficult to predict customers let alone economic cycles, the bean counters watch everything like hawks, VAG has internal politics, etc. etc. But it's a Lamborghini, and I want to be wow'ed, not meh'ed. The other thing I find fascinating is how people react with ooh's and aah's -- even more so when they are shown renders of the potential future variations -- when the same kind of minute and never-ending variations caused them to gripe and moan about the G before, right until the last few of them, just weeks ago. So yeah, the car came in where logic dictated it would... and I cannot help but have a "meh" feeling about that. Which is very much the same feeling I had about the 458 or the MP4-12C. On the bright side, my G SL now feels as good as it has for my past >60k miles in it. Sort of like that black Miura, in the Kidston video about the SV reunion from a couple of weeks ago. Some- thing I might enjoy for the rest of my life, actually. Yay! :-)
  11. > They will make a total of 4,000 (+/- 5%) and they made 4099 of the Murcielago. Interestingly enough the Audi financial reports claim that 3,961 Murcielagos were produced and 4,140 Murcielagos were delivered. Wonderful discrepancies there... Anyway. About that 4k Aventador number. The most recent report is from Q3/2013 -- until October 2013 they produced a total of 2,268 Aventadors and they delivered 2,040 of them. It's interesting to watch the inventory and its swings over time, but at the same time it's too early to draw meaningful conclusions from the limited data: the Gallardo saw large swings over its lifetime as well. In general the Aventador is -- from the factory's perspective -- doing well... and, if the "only 4k will be made" claims are to be believed, a little more than halfway through its production run. Now, do you seriously believe they will -- given how well it's selling -- stop at 4k? Doing so would leave them without a halo model, because... well... you would be seeing references to a successor by now, if not prototype glimpses. (The earliest Aventador spy shots were from winter testing, about 18 months before deliveries actually started to take place.) Do you seriously think they'll go without a halo model? They could proliferate the Aventador, similar to how the Gallardo and Murcielago were proliferated, to the LP5xx and LP6xx. (Heck, as much innovation there is -- but the upcoming Gallardo "replacement" and the Aventador are -- in the end -- mostly proliferations as well. But... I digress.) Or they could just make more CF molds, and keep going as is, before eventually doing a proliferation. But yeah... that "only 4K will be made" claim... doesn't look strongly rooted in a world of VAG reality to me.
  12. > It seems the recall is only for cars with CCB's nuts and bolts that hold the disc to the hat per my (trusted) mechanic. http://www.lambopower.com/forum/lofiversio...php/t69580.html
  13. > I know of at least two guys who saw the car, none of them will talk out in the open, unfortunately The Aventador underwent road testing in Saxony back in the fall of 2010. I spotted it several times both in the morning and in the evening. And they used a local temporary plate -- so it was not hard to realize where they were keeping it over night. The Aventador Roadster then underwent its road testing in the fall of 2012. I spotted that one too. That said... my fall 2013 trip... was rewarding. [Dear Lamborghini -- if you continue to do this, I will continue to enjoy it, without taking pictures.]
  14. If you have a Murcielago or early Gallardo with CCBs, then expect this bolt replacement coming your way soon. Murcielago http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs...3V470-8558P.pdf http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs...13V470-8871.pdf Gallardo http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs...3V471-8558P.pdf http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs...13V471-7480.pdf Mine was in for 60k service last week. So they managed to replace the 40 bolts as part of that overall shop visit.
  15. > A380 is certified by the FAA and European Aviation Safety Agency for up to 853 people. > For anyone curious, the FAA test is essentially this : Half the exits can be used, and as > many people that can get out in 90 seconds are what will end up certified. 1:17.4 -- piece of cake
  16. > I am looking for an easy to install license place holder for front bumper of my Gallardo 2007. http://gominigo.com/Lamborghini.html
  17. > - Are there only 172 produced worldwide? The often quoted 172 number refers to just the U.S. market. As for the world wide total, this is what the March 2010 Lamborghini Bollettino says: "The “superlight” vehicle [that is, the LP-570-4, which the article is about] features updated technologies and materials from its predecessor, the Gallardo Superleggera, which was introduced in 2007 and sold an impressive 618 units in its first year." It's unclear whether "first year" refers to model year (in which case the 618 number probably covers all SLs, from mid 2007 to the end of Q1 of 2008), or calendar year (in which case the ones from 2008 would be on top of the 618 number). You can easily find PDF copies of the document by searching the web for March 2012 Lamborghini Bollettino. > - I am looking to get a Verde Ithica SL, does anyone know how many were made in this color worldwide? The 2008 MY SL was not available in Verde Ithaca. Only orange, yellow, gray, black, or white. > - How many manual VS egear? Of the 172 for the U.S. market, these 7 had a manual gearbox: ZHWGU43N08LA06015 ZHWGU43N88LA06053 ZHWGU43N18LA06315 ZHWGU43N08LA06323 ZHWGU43N58LA06804 ZHWGU43N08LA06838 ZHWGU43N28LA06890 > - Does anyone know production numbers for EU market, Asia, USA etc? Well, 172 / 618 = ~28% for the U.S. market. Expect Europe and Asia to be similar, and rest of the world... to account for the rest. > - BONUS question: is the pink SL from Qatar a factory color or a wrap? Probably a wrap. > The 570SL is above my budget at the moment, is it that much better that you advise > me to wait so I can pick up a 570SL instead of a 2008SL? I have had my 2008 SL for more than 4 years, and I'm about to cross 60k mi with it. I did test drive the 570-4 back when it came out. I didn't like its E-gear (too smooth), its exhaust note (not raw enough), the rear end (still not a fan of it), or the buttons on the center console (chrome is not my thing). By contrast, I did like the front end (that nose looks better to me, though I do prefer the older larger head lights) and the seats (even though they wouldn't work for me in practice: for daily driving I do need to put a bag behind the seat all the time). The extra power and torque, and the better torque curve are all nice... but they each fall into the 5% or so category for me... and in the end it simply wasn't worth trading my car plus a pile of cash for a 570 back then. Now, prices have come down a bit... but in the end there will always be something new/else to chase -- the 570 has seen the STS... and the STS will see the Gallardo successor... In the end, get whatever makes you happy. :-)
  18. > havent seen Doltmo around lately, but last time i sat in his car at the track day where DanC wrecked his Carrera GT he was sitting north of 90K in his G. Yeah, he is expected to show up with 100k miles at Concorso tomorrow. By contrast, I will be falling short of my 60k miles target by about a month. But hey, I'm still on my original factory clutch, with plenty of live left in it...
  19. > those are the MAcarbon ones? Yep. And in my car, nonetheless. > i like what they did with those, i wanted these to extend further in both directions though. I have had mine for just over a year now, and according to my E-gear snapshots they have seen almost 30k uses during that time. And I have nothing but praise for them! I have taken them off a few times to show them to other people, but in general they stay on. And, after year, that whole slide-on "concept" continues to work well: they re- main nice and tight, while sliding them on/off is effortless. The upward extension is long enough for my taste. Make them any longer, and you will end up with a twist/torsion force on the original paddle, straining its mounting point. A downward extension would have been nice, but simply interferes with both, the stalks (especially when it comes to push/pull) as well as keeping your hands on the wheel while turning. The latter would get worse if the extension (down or up) were angled towards the driver. You really have to drive around with the extensions for while to see what just looks nice vs. what actually works when driving. Let me know if you have more specific questions -- there are probably other tidbits which I forgot to write up here.
  20. Nah. Expect 1 model, which will come in countless variations. First, with a stiff vs soft back plate... like coupe vs spyder. Then with two zippers that have either 1 or 2 handles... like -2 vs -4. Next, with no handle vs a handle vs a more ridiculous handle vs a crazy handle... like no wing, small wing, normal wing, Trofeo wing, etc. After that comes velcro vs buttons... like E-gear vs manual. Followed by color, of course... I'll spare you the list, let alone the possible/subtle combinations, 1-tone, 2-tone, 3-tone, etc. Toss in some 1/2/3-wide color stripes... again, no need to elaborate on those. And voila! The backpack model comes in countless variations. Just like the Gallardo. :-)
  21. > What happens if you need to go 350 miles? Why you hop into your Gallardo, of course!
  22. > Any vehicle with an engine over 2.5 liters is technically "prohibited". Perhaps the twin banks of the 5.0 Gallardo can count as two engines?
  23. Looks like the Top gear track, alright... but it seems to be a CGI rendering rather than actual footage. Meh.
  24. > That's pretty slick. I'm surprised that's legal in CA. tl;dr = unless the CA DMV issued it, it's not CA legal For details... VC 4853 would be the only way to make it CA legal. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d03/vc4853.htm VC 4852 defines the size and lettering requirements. (The specific wrap shown in this thread might comply.) http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d03/vc4852.htm I don't know of anyone who managed to get the DMV to do this for them. (I researched this back in 2009... and ended up with a front plate in the end, to comply with the VC and make daily driving more enjoyable.) Otherwise... VC 4850(a) states that you are issued two license plates. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d03/vc4850.htm VC 5200(a) requires you to mount both issued plates. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d03/vc5200.htm VC 11713.17(a)(2)(A) requires you to mount the front plate. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d05/vc11713_17.htm
