MANG Report post Posted October 17, 2008 wow, this thread is big time! some amazing cars! really beautiful examples out there! H - your Pantera trumps them all! in a way...... Mangusta....Miura Pantera....Countach Longchamp...Estoque got it all covered
Revson Report post Posted October 17, 2008 Look closely at the Mangusta. Many immediately say "I see the Pantera's 'lil bro". I don't. It has some Miura-like lines, even the same tail lights. Some pre-BORA features and ideas. Has to be one of the prettiest cars of it's day. DeTomaso isn't well liked amoung the "purists" with the use of FORD iron to run his cars. It's all sour grapes IMVHO. The Mangusta rivals the Miura in looks, is infinitely easier to have engine work done, probably has more reliable power, and is just as rare. The Pantera out Lamborghini'd Lamborghini. Timeless lines. An AMERICAN designer!!! and the same ITL design w/AM lump. Little wonder those spending 2-20 times as much for their cars belittle the DeTomaso marque. This isn't owner-popping shirt buttons as MANG can attest to. I realize a newbie posting such remarks may sound that way. I will slowly intro other iron I have. I'm a guilty consumer
MANG Report post Posted October 17, 2008 H - very well stated...AND from a guy who has a collection of Lamborghini's that rivals anyone on the planet! I have had these thoughts about Detomaso/Lamborghini for some time. I can't afford a Miura (although that could change!! Yikes), so the next BETTER thing lol, is a Mangusta. There is a great photo of a Mangusta and Miura cruising around the net...orange Mangusta, red Miura...and I can't imagine two more sweet looking cars photographed together! Here is the link..... http://www.mangustainternational.com/photos_detail.php?id=26 Vic, that clean burgandy colored pre 'L' looks so sweet! After seeing a zillion Pantera's, I know my favorite is the simple lined, small chromed bumper non-modded body, just pure sex! I actually prefer the smaller 15" stock wheels over all the modern updates done. I realize they improve handling, etc., but early Italian exotics wearing Campi's is the way it should be. Saleenfan Report post Posted October 17, 2008 I've been wondering... what are the performance specs and HP on a well sorted late model Pantera?? Bone stock right around 300hp, 300 tq, all the way up to what ever you can dream.

lambolp400s Report post Posted October 19, 2008 Bone stock right around 300hp, 300 tq, all the way up to what ever you can dream. Yes, all the way up to this Swedish car that on the flying kilometer reached a max of 212 mph before clutch broke, and it rolled the last half only getting registered 194,5 mph as the average. Later it did 219..
lambolp400s Report post Posted October 19, 2008 OR, you can play ballistic banana like this other Swede with his very lightweight car with a 526cid Hemi. Must be a monster...... http://www.hemipanter.se/
MANG Report post Posted October 19, 2008 On Friday I spent part of my day with Jim Nowlin - Pantera Owners Club Pres. and Pantera GURU. I of course looked over his blue car extensively and then was treated to a look at his Pantera paraphanalia, got to be the biggest collection in the world. He also has photo albums of nearly EVERY Pantera, includes a photo, Vin #, owners names, where and when he took the photo all in chronological order!! already gave me all kinds of assistance with Detomaso ownership...thanks Jim! (don't know if he hangs here or not or if anyone knows him here)
lambolp400s Report post Posted October 19, 2008 Former Capt Jim Nowlins car looks amazing! You can tell him that this guy in Norway has some photos of his blue machine on his computer..
lambolp400s Report post Posted October 19, 2008 Thinking about it, I'm starting to wonder if I have to many Countach and Pantera pictures, and to little porn on my PC to be considdered healthy?
MANG Report post Posted October 19, 2008 Thinking about it, I'm starting to wonder if I have to many Countach and Pantera pictures, and to little porn on my PC to be considdered healthy? yeah, you are probably right, now it is time to accumulate some hot chicks with hot cars and share I like the Lake Tahoe/Pantera shots. I lived within 2 miles of Jim for 13 years and never knew this Pantera guru was my neighbor. odd, but take a look at Jim's Pantera and then my newly acquired Mangusta (custom) and notice the wheels Etoille and the mirrors....interesting.... exact same GOOD stuff....anyone have any leads on the very rare and valuable and hard to come by set of original Mangusta wheels? I am hoping to find a set...want to throw on some re-manu XWX Michelins and see how that thing drives on that set-up, must be a gas! Saleenfan Report post Posted October 19, 2008 I just noticed that there is a Pantera in the "new" gone in 60 seconds. Its a yellow one in the background when angelina jolie droves the Xj220 up and says "I love that car"
lambolp400s Report post Posted October 20, 2008 Some more of the (that I know of) only Mangusta in Norway. Anyone know the story about this cars lack of rear windows? Have only rearly seen it before. Saw a set of Mangusta wheels some weeks ago on eBay. Did'nt see the end bid, but will keep an eye on a set for you if you can sell me those Etoilles for a few bucks.. MANG Report post Posted October 20, 2008 find me those Mangusta rims (I am going to search stateside) and I may part completely with the other set...I was going to keep them for 'hot rod' shows....Hot August Nights comes to mind!, and put the originals on because they look just right That orange car is just kick-ass...that motor is just a beast. Is that car on the Mangusta International Registry? I did see photos of an orange one in Europe running with a red Miura, but it had stock rims I believe and those XWX Michelins I spoke of. TrentS Report post Posted October 23, 2008 I haven't even cleaned it up yet...this is what dirty looks like, That's a GORGEOUS Mangusta! The only thing I'd change are the wheels (I love the wheels on the orange one above).
MANG Report post Posted October 23, 2008 That's a GORGEOUS Mangusta! The only thing I'd change are the wheels (I love the wheels on the orange one above). you are not alone...the wheel and tire combo that is on there is so '90's hot-rod looking. They are excellent quality, but not my favorite either. I like the original wheels best...am on the hunt for a set, OR am thinking of having a custom set made identical to original sytle but larger and capable of sporting z rated tires, so it will look even faster while it sits
Saleenfan Report post Posted October 23, 2008 You should get some 180 degree headers too!
MANG Report post Posted October 23, 2008 You should get some 180 degree headers too! regarding changes like that....not going to be going there. The headers and installation that are on there is really done along with everything else - to a level of perfection...they are stainless, jet hot coated, mounted with extreme detail, the tips are black chromed to match the black trim on the car, it looks sweet. The wheels are a simple bolt up and change (for the beter) the whole look of the car...WHILE IT SITS and wins trophies!!
