Spent the last few days creating http://www.myitemtracker.com

Still need to clean up the visual aspects of the site, get a proper logo, etc, but from a functional perspective it should at least be functional now.

Basically it lets you track the price of any item from Amazon. You enter your desired price and condition [new, used, refurbished] and then website will shoot you an email if the product becomes available for that price.

Things on todo list:

-Clean up design and logo.

-Graph price history for products.

-Add categories and pagination to search.

Okay looks like it works, although I'll probably have to wait to get email when the product becomes available at my set price to know if it works 100%.

Do they have something like this for eBay? I think the site looks good.

OT. I actually had a really good idea for a website/business, but I know shit about webdesign. I know basically what I want from the website, but not sure where to go with it. I have a friend of mine that also graduated from fullsail, and I'm thinking about asking him for assistance. It would be a complex travel site. Any thoughts/ recommendations? I don't believe anyone out there has come up with anything in the same context.

I will run some promotions for it and whatnot when I have polished it up a bit. Until then consider this a LP beta test LOL.

You should be able to enter the direct link on your site. 1) Find a product on amazon 2) past the http address on your site 3) set desired price :)

Also a rework of the design would be CHEAP for a site like that. Get some professional web designers to make it look good but you can do that after the programming is tested I guess :)

Cool concept. How about adding text messaging? I Googled a couple of similar sites to see what they have to offer, but I haven't seen any offer texting or something along those lines. Maybe incorporate Twitter and Facebook to it? Have the product alert post it on their facebook when it becomes available at the desired price so alerts their facebook friends as well. As for the design, I would design something simplistic. Maybe have the home page show Popular Products, Search Products and What Is MyItemTracker. It will fill definitely fill up the page more.

Nice!

By the way, how is everything coming along with VIPWITHME?

:)

Good. Still under development, but most of the functionality is done. Concentrating mostly on school with 2 months left then I will get around to finishing it up.

Added graphs. Still need to clean them up a bit.

Very nice addition with the graph! Its looks great. I would recommend having the lowest price for the month be highlighted or even a box displaying it somewhere. Also, bing.com has the cool thing with airline tickets which tells you when is the best time to buy. If you can incorporate something like that, it would be awesome! Just throwing out more ideas, stop me if I am getting too carried away. :)

do you have any recommendations for a newbie for learning ruby?

books or websites?

Agile Web Development with Rails, Third Edition

and

The Ruby Programming Language

Once you get the basics down, you mostly learn from practicing. Find little projects that you want to do. Every time you run into a problem try to find the solution through Google. At least that's the way I learn.
