speedy4500 Report post Posted June 25, 2010 I wasnt going to say anything but I cant help it. What does it matter to you? Since when is it wrong for people to get excited about a sport? The US is not normally a strong team in the world cup so to win in that fashion is exiciting for people. Honestly I think the "overhyping" and "bloated patriotism" add to the fun of watching this shit. Other then that I dont tend to enjoy watching much soccer. I guess its different strokes for different folks..... And for the record, everyone knows its a long way away. If you hate it now, just think how much you are going to hate it if they win their next couple games...... Not to mention reactions like that are not a "USA-only" thing.... regardless of what country it is--Japan, Argentina, Ivory Coast, etc--when they score a goal like that in such a situation, you better believe everyone will be going nuts. You guys are both right, but I can somewhat see Zapper's point as the idiots hopping on the bandwagon right now is pretty rediculous. I don't watch "soccer", and never have. Nor do I follow MLS soccer over here, or the team members. So if I now go buy a "Langdon Donovan USA" t-shirt, a red/white/blue bandana, some matching face paint, and then go to a local similarly-disaffected Orange County CA bar, I'll find 50 idiot band-wagoners just like me during the games, screaming at the top of their lungs claiming they've been soccer fans for "years bro, years! Awesome sport, fcuk yeah, go USA!!!"...meanwhile these clowns haven't seen a single game in the past decade either. Worse is they'll then all regurgitate their "vast knowledge" of players and teams as if it's their personal take, only to find out later they recited it word-for-word from some ESPN talking head... We get enough of this around here with the Lakers, where every LA numbnut who doesn't even have a clue the season is in session for most of the year suddenly becomes "LAKER FAN #1!!!" during the finals. Well said, I guess I shouldn't have used such a broad brush. Sorry if I offended anyone. It's just that football is very close to my heart and it's being polluted and destroyed by money and commercialism, which includes trendy people. Just pisses me off. Swil Report post Posted June 26, 2010 Eh...Not enough gas in the tank. At this level it's impossible to do the unthinkable over and over again. Congrats to the US for giving it's citizens a good show and actually making soccer/futbol "noticeable" again to the masses. Very courageous effort, made a lot of us proud!!! Hopefully this continues to grow in our culture as we continue to develop more higher caliber players. Cause we need it... Bottom line, Ghana outplayed the US. They were quicker, faster AND definitely more skilled. And they attacked the ball in every 50/50 open chance. When the opportunity came they closed the show. Both goals by Ghana were spectacular individual performances. Then again, that's what you expect when a world class forward gets the ball up front. The US simply doesn't have that yet. Guys that close the show. Just look at Uruguay for example (without mentioning the big name teams). Those two guys up front are scary as hell when they get the ball; cause they are either gonna create space for themselves or someone else and make the perfect decision almost every time, done, goal scored. Efficient and deadly closers that don't need more than a couple chances. It's just so frustrating to see so many US shots on goal go straight into the goalies arms or a skipper that goes to his feet. Close the fuckin show. Once they start developing real closers with creativity on the ball, THEN we'll start to see the US become seriously formidable. But great job all the same USA!!! Now tomorrow; the fun starts!!! Get ready for some beautifully intense football...

Time to become a Brazil or Spain fan.
Swil Report post Posted June 27, 2010 OK Capt. Chaos, do you still think the game is fine without goal line sensors installed in the goal? Without replay or another set of officiating eyes? The result not withstanding since we're only halfway through the 1st half; this World Cup has been a display of how poor and weak the traditional rules and standards of the game has let down the quality of a fair and honest competition. It has left not only the casual fan but the die-hard frustrated, baffled and even cheated. At least that's how I feel I'm seriously finding it hard to continue to enjoy the sport after seeing such poor results due to lack of quality officiating at what is supposed to be the highest level of the sport (of players AND officials). Like we have seen in all OTHER sports, as the game progresses so must the technology and rules. Football has clearly fallen short of this. Very disappointing... KING-640 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 WORST OFFICIATING IN A WORLD CUP EVER. FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK This just shouldn't happed in the 21st century! How fcuking difficult would it have been to place another 2 officials at the goals? How much more could it possibly cost? Placid Report post Posted June 27, 2010 How fcuking difficult would it have been to place another 2 officials at the goals? How much more could it possibly cost? Swil Report post Posted June 27, 2010 eh...If the score was 2-2 probably would've been a little different game..Then again.... What a shitty athlete that right back defender is. 4th goal: The guy blew by him untouched like he was Usain Bolt... caligula777 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 The reality is England and the US are both mediocre teams that happened to sneak into the 2nd round because they were in the easiest group in the draw. Algeria are a bullshit team and the fact the US needed a last gasp goal to beat them and that England drew with them is fcuking embarrassing. And Slovenia doesn't exactly elicit any trepidation amongst opposition teams. I can think of quite a few teams who didn't make it to the round of 16 that could have handily trounced the US and England. This is the World Cup ! The big boys come to play and shit gets flushed down the toilet !
